New Computer Issue

So I built a computer about a week ago and a problem has occurred in the past few days where my fans (all of them?) suddenly go too 100% speed, my monitor stops receiving a signal and I get the click-click-click noise in my headphones. I have monitored my cpu and gpu temperatures and they are both stable. This has happened 3 times so far, twice when playing tf2 and once in csgo, It usually happens around 30 mins to an hour of playtime which is unusual because I played 3 or 4 hours straight on Sunday with no trouble whatsoever. The only cause I can think of is that during the build there weren't enough 6-pin ports for the graphic card because I had to use 2 for the hard drive and ssd. This means that one of the graphics card power slot is supplied through a 2 molex to a 6 pin adapter but I'm not how that could lead to this problem.
Any help is very much appreciated.

EDIT: Both games are maxed at 121 frames.

EDIT 2: So I was in game for at least 2 hours tonight and then with no reason the computer crashed, i could hear a fan whirring inside so i opened it up and it was the graphics card. When I try to restart, the only 2 things that power up are the graphics card and the hard drive.

Ok, first things first. I'm not really sure what you mean by "there weren't enough 6-pin ports for the graphic card because I had to use 2 for the hard drive and ssd". Why do you need two 6-pins for the HDD and SSD?

Before we delve into the more interesting possibilities, check the BIOS version. If it's <P1.90 you should update and that might already solve the problem.

Because I couldn't fit them both on with one cable. I dont think my psu even came with two 6 pin connectors.

My graphics card also requires two 6 pin inputs and I only had one 6 pin cable, this meant I had to use a molex to 6 pin adapter for the second input.

Right now when I try and power up the computer only the graphics card and hard drive turn on (edit 2), might be something faulty with psu?

(i'll open up my case tomorrow and take some photos so all this is clearer)

volt test your psu with a multimeter to make sure its not the psu

These are symptoms of a bad motherboard

Considering the PSU has a single 12V rail with a power rating of 384W I doubt this is related to the power supply.

+1 on the BIOS update suggestion.

I would do the BIOS update but

Hyperi0nRight now when I try and power up the computer only the graphics card and hard drive turn on (edit 2)

thinking of taking this round to the local pc and seeing what they can do about it

ill open up the case tonight and see if any cables are loose ect.
almost certain this has something to do with graphics card now.

Found a photo of the adapter that one of my gpu inputs has to go through here

your psu probably cannot support the voltage required for that GPU, its at least worth a try removing the GPU and seeing if the unit boots.

wrechedddddtry removing the GPU and seeing if the unit boots.

Did this and it all booted up. Weird because it was running ok for a week or so.

What are my options now? replace psu and/or different graphics card?

Also wondering why this didn't pop up on any of the websites I checked on? all of them said this was compatible

EDIT: So I just unplugged and plugged everything back into place including graphics card and its all booted up fine and is working so far. Also BIOS is at 2.10

Still thought the cable length should've been enough to connect both HDD and SSD.

Anyway, since you're crashing in games it's most likely the GPU. My bet is on software. I just wanted to start with what is easiest to check (mobo BIOS version). That leaves us with drivers and GPU BIOS. A couple of 270X shipped with a faulty BIOS, but that was a while ago. Check the driver version first. Especially if you installed the drivers from the CD they might be a bit outdated. Iirc there has been a problem with DirectX 9 applications which fits the issue (only crashing in TF2 and CS:GO) perfectly.

Ok, ill check on those.

I posted this on a pchelp forum and one of the guys simply stated that the minimum wattage for my gpu was 500, as seen at the bottom of the page here, I went into catalyst and reduced the clock rate a bit (i think) and everything ran stable tonight for a few hours.

Minimum wattage is bullshit, it's massively inflated because some low-end "brands" started to sell e.g. 300W PSUs as 500W PSUs. 270X TDP is 180W, another 80W for the CPU and you've still got plenty to spare.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. ill check on the BIOS for tomorrow.

Also rang up the local PC centre and they said that when I first set up the pc, I may have not had all my pins in fully or something and when I went back tonight and unplugged and replugged everything back in that it was all done properly this time. anyway, ill check and update bios tomorrow. If this problem comes back i think ill just take it in for them to look at, easier that way. Thanks for all your help :)

I was playing tf2 tonight and 3 times I got a black screen with white vertical lines going down the whole screen. Checked GPU bios and that is all up-to-date. I am also running tf2 in directx 8. is my graphics card faulty?
Also taking computer to local pc centre, how do I explain to them that minimum wattage for graphics cards is bullshit?

EDIT: was just going through old demos when it happened again, this time it was a light green screen, i could still hear audio in the background though.

GPU confirmed. My bet is still on software for now.

Up-to-date BIOS != working BIOS. No correlation there, old BIOS can be good and new ones can be faulty.

What about the drivers?

SetsulCheck the driver version first. Especially if you installed the drivers from the CD they might be a bit outdated.

If it still doesn't work with the newest drivers then the last thing you can try is flashing the BIOS or if you're not comfortable with that or if it doesn't work either, RMA it (after flashing back to the original BIOS).

GPU
Driver Version: 14.100.0.0
BIOS Information: 113-270X-CDJ--110
Not sure about flashing BIOS, I think ill just take it into the pc store and have them sort it out. Thanks for your help :)

That driver is fairly old. Try 14.12 (Omega), maybe the 15.3 beta after that.

Computer store says its the psu, didn't get a chance to update drivers before i sent the computer in. They are recommending a 500W minimum psu, which one do you suggest?

If it turns out that the drivers are the problem then I will be having a word to them...

Well of course they recommend a new PSU. Troubleshooting software is more work, they might have to face angry customers because they changed some ultra important settings (which might have been causing the problem). If they just sell you a new PSU it's almost none or no work at all, they make easy money and if it still doesn't work they can quote the official requirements and tell you, that you needed that PSU anyway.

If you can return the CX430, you could get an EVGA 500B from CPL for 78$. Let's see how fast they backpedal once you tell them you won't be buying the new PSU from them.

Sounds like a good plan.

Im picking the computer back up from them tomorrow, which means I can test out the drivers you suggested before moving onto a new PSU.

Noob question but how do I update my gpu drivers without using the default net search? Its just updating the catalyst software not the actual driver when i look in driver information on the gpu

edit: installed driver but amd gaming evolved still says i need to update?

It's just about the driver. AMD Gaming Evolved is like Geforce Experience, you don't need it, unless you want to use some of its features.
If the driver version has changed to whatever you tried to update it to, then it worked.
Here's the link to the driver download page, just in case.
