AlkalineIf a newer and less experienced team from NA (looking at you, 20b and Elev) or Australia (maybe the team that won last season or a new superteam?) were to prove that they're really motivated and are going to work really hard to become the best they can possibly be, then I would unhesitatingly give as much as I could possibly spare to their fundraiser. Don't get me wrong, I love watching top level TF2 and I'll give to the fundraiser no matter who's going. But my point is just that I would rather see 20b train really hard, give it their all, and lose in the final than see 4g win again with little effort (ideally we would send 2 teams again and get to see both, but you get my point).

While I do agree for the most part with this point, let's not travel into the territory of "down with Froyotech" too quickly.
Froyotech has, and continues to dominate the ESEA scene, and sure, there are good and bad reasons for that. However, their constant success has led to somewhat bitter reaction from the community, and some of that is understandable, given how often some members on the team practice.

Given the nature of TF2, we can't expect the majority of the community to put TF2 over work or school, so when we find people who can dedicate many hours to the game; good on them, you gained a lucky advantage, and many players will not be willing or able to compete with you off this fact alone.

Froyo may be the best, but it's hard to stay the best when nobody else around you can raise the bar just a little higher. I believe it may be in the best interests of sustainability that other top teams get opportunities to compete in these competitions. In future ESEA seasons as well, it may be worth a consideration to see Froyo's core spread amongst multiple teams instead of being one super team.

This is a topic for a thread in itself, but it ties into Alkaline's point of making way for not only others at the top, but a new generation of players.

You really can't expect a team to spread their players out in a game where your teammates and friends are the main reason you play (like tf2).

You could probably put together two rosters of NA players that could challenge froyo, but between people being busy, taking breaks, refusing to play in ESEA ever again, etc, those players are never playing at the same time so shit doesn't happen. It's not froyo's fault.

Don't get me wrong, I don't even watch tf2 anymore because I think it's boring/predictable in it's current state. There's a team with clockwork AND banny on it, WITHOUT tyrone... obviously they are gonna beat everyone.

I'd just rather see other teams step up than see froyo split apart.

I agree. I definitely don't feel that it would be right to not do a fundraiser for 4g if they are willing to go and they continue to be by far the best team (and it looks like they will be). I just feel that if at all possible, the community should encourage these newer teams who are scrimming, dm-ing, and training a lot. I think we agree on that, but definitely if we're sending one NA team then it should be the best one. And unless something changes, yeah 4g should be that team because they're clearly still the best (20b is gonna win lan and i55 tho just wait). I guess as much as anything else it's a sentiment. It's still a while till i55, so we'll see how things turn out.

Different topic: for a while there was discussion of GXL being a Lan where top Euro teams would go to complement (or even replace?) Insomnia. Is that idea still being tossed around? Would it be better to send two NA teams to i55 and no EU teams to GXL, or 1 NA to i55 and 1 EU to GXL? I have no clue. Just ideas.

dashnerIt's a no brainer which one you take, IMO. I get that doing the same event for three years straight becomes a bit tiresome, but our scene doesn't really have the luxury of being picky.

OK, fair enough. I'm looking forward to watching/donating to i55!

Froyo definitely seems dominant, and the games they've played haven't been all that exciting. But c'mon the Mad Men/eLevate/Street Hoops matches have all been fantastic this season.

Regardless of whether there are teams that can challenge Froyo at i55, it'd still be great to see another international lan.

hey, since usually teams form new superteams to beat the current one who would you put on a team together to try and beat froyo
mine are

Demo: Bdonski
Pocket: Grape
Roamer: Harbleu
Scout: Cyzer
Scout: Seymour
Medic: Cozen

as much as id like 2 put together some dream roster to beat froyo, froyos been playing together forever so i guess them being beat anytime soon is unlikely

if elevate had the same roster this season and scrimmed i think they could have done it but idk about now
though if elevate/hoops/madmen started scrimming a lot they could took a few rounds off them and maybe match

they're not very motivated this season so the other invite teams could capitalize on that

Froyotech would still beat this team. B4nny + Clockwork is the strongest scout duo in the world and Blaze on LAN is insane because he doesn't have to deal with Canadian ping.

When Froyotech rapes everyone at i55 I'm going to quote this

Well ok that's a bit of a lame question but ok here we go.

Scout: Cyzer
Scout: Paragon
Pocket: Grape
Romaer: Ash
Demo: Deadbolt
Medic: Ninjanick

Paragon and Deadbolt play really well together for obvious reasons, Cyzer is a beast as is Grape, Ninjanick is an experienced medic with a good stream (to attract fans), and as for Ash I will just leave this here: http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=stats&d=match&id=4125934

nopeyuki (i.e. not relying on donations) again. Is this just because Dyse was such a jerk about it? Cos you could just do it here rather than on ozfort and if someone tries that shit here they'll just get banned instantly. You also don't even need to offer anything in return, people just want to see you guys play. Maybe smash some mid prem/invite teams at high ping in showmatches to get the total over the line, idk

Anyway i don't know if that's the whole story so i'm probably completely wrong but people here want you guys to come and i know i'd certainly donate a bit, i'm sure i'm not alone.

do you really think anyone would actually give a fuck what dyse has to say

Not normally, no. But why then wasn't there another fundraiser for i52? I think it played a part (it seems like that from my outside perspective anyway), and obviously I'm not happy saying that. Trolls shouldn't get rewarded, but unfortunately real life doesn't always work out like that.

Every i-series has been fantastic to watch since my first one at i42. Another intercontinental LAN would be fantastic and once again, a pleasure to watch. If the community lets it happen and funds the best teams over, once again we would surpass ourselves as a scene. It doesn't matter about the quality of the players, every season we think a legend of the game or one of the best players / teams make the scene stronger but believe you and me there are so many really keen and dedicated and talented players in the scene practicing so hard, the competition will never truly die, but I really want to see a story in 6v6 where the big boys are taken down by a team of unknowns or up-comers. We've seen it in Highlander (usually happens when the big boys lose motivation and don't put in the performances they need to to win).

Froyotech, Mixup, Epsilon, Immunity were all amazing teams but I wouldn't mind continuing to watch TF2 for the next 10 years and never seeing one of their legendary players touch the game again, so long as we continue to have a competitive and high level of competition. That will continue to happen if new people come in...

If any of you guys watched the two Archimedes Cup finalists, both those teams were TF2center/div 6 and some of their players were really talented. I watched newbie cups from the past and I could tell a lot of players were "newbies" but these kids obviously practised a lot. (also goes to show how money is a motivator).

I think it played a part (it seems like that from my outside perspective anyway), and obviously I'm not happy saying that. Trolls shouldn't get rewarded, but unfortunately real life doesn't always work out like that.
pretty sure immunity just didnt want to ask for donations when they didnt need them. they could pay for themselves (+sponsors chipping in)
We paid for i52 ourselves in full. We got some peripherals and a few facebook posts.

yukimethmaidennope Not normally, no. But why then wasn't there another fundraiser for i52? R.I.P team immunity. Hopefully there is still some action apart from the american teams that will be sent. On that account, are we sending 2 teams or one. We better plan it early because then flight tickets are cheaper :)

It would be really nice if we could step up our game as a community and send three teams, two NA and one from somewhere else. Maybe MONSTER (Brazil), maybe an Asian team, maybe a different/new Australian team. I dunno which. For me, that would be the best case. Maybe it's unreasonable, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
