If you like ~retro gaming~ I highly recommend the Mother series. You need an emulator and a ROM to play them on a PC but they are really all worth it. You can download everything you need here: http://fantasyanime.com/legacy/earthb_down.htm.

Mother /Earthbound Zero (NES): I'd say this is the least polished one in the series as it was really just sort of a concept test back then and Miyamoto originally denied its production. However, the Improved patch given in my link fixes all the problems and greatly reduces the grinding needed.

Mother 2/Earthbound(SNES): The most popular one of the series in North America. It's pretty much a cult game here in NA nowadays however it didn't have the high sales it did in Japan.

Mother 3 (GBA): Because of the poor Earthbound sales in NA even with that rub-and-smell ads it wasn't released here. However, fans have fully translated everything pretty much perfectly. I'd say it's the best one in the series and the best game I've ever played.

I took screenshots for like the first 1/3rd of Mother 3 until I got lazy but I made an album of the ones I have:http://imgur.com/a/OabgI and some samples:

I fucking love the Mother series but if you're planning to just play one, play Mother 3.

The Mother series is so good, I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

The Legend of Zelda is a personal favorite of mine, and with Majora's Mask 3D coming out in like 2 weeks, if you have a 3DS, it's definitely worth it. If you don't however, Cave Story is another great game to play single player(it's also a freeware game, unless you want to buy Cave Story+). It's super fun, challenging and has a ton of replay ability since it has multiple endings.

The Ace Attorney saga is my favorite single-player game franchise, and they're easily accessible on iOS/Wii/DS/3DS, as well as Emulation, they're not for everyone, however. They're text based adventure games with a ton of story and characters you'll absolutely love, but some can be put off from the lack of action.

Skyrim, Dark Souls 1 and 2 (haven't played 2 personally, but I assume it's at least good enough to try out), Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age: Inquisition, a lot of PS1 and 2 games depending on your genre preference, Kingdom of Amalur (great game for what it is), Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Witcher 1 & 2.

You can probably emulate a bunch of old games.

I'm playing luigi's mansion and the first pikmin because I have a week off from school.

Darksiders 1 and 2, Torchlight 1 and 2 (shoutout to rick), Grid 1 2 and Autosport.

Risk of Rain gets addictive. Do not play if you want to keep your free time.

So I think I'm gonna try Dragon Age and Dark Souls first off. Those look like games that seem really fun to me. Dark Souls 2 obviously but there's a ton of Dragon Ages which is the one that you would consider the best

Apparently Inquisition is really good but I haven't played it yet.

I think you should play the games in order though going from Dragon Age: Origins to Inquisition. Origins is better than Dragon Age II but II actually isn't a bad game at all but people rag on it because they changed the free roam aspect of the game and lightened some of the rpg elements but the gameplay/control is so much better than Origins.

You should seriously consider playing the Metro series and the Mass Effect series as well.

I know it's a horror-ish game but fear 1 was a genuinely enjoyable game, the other two sucked big time though. I'd agree with people saying limbo too, really fun game and brilliant art style.

All big title single player games are uninspiring, mind numbing, and just plain boring to me. What I have recently played and liked:

Super Meat Boy
Papers, Please
The Stanley Parable
Fez
Kentucky Route Zero
Nidhogg
Hotline Miami
Mark of the Ninja
Broken Age

My favorite singleplayer PC games. If it's free i provided a link to it.

1. Immersive single-player experience worthy of many replays

  • Fallout: New Vegas & Fallout 3
  • Skyrim & Oblivion
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3
  • BioShock 1, 2, and Infinite
  • Far Cry 3 (maybe 4 i don't have it)
  • Dishonored (Shorter, but amazing gameplay)
  • Metro 2033 & Last Light

2. Less serious, with great gameplay

  • Terraria
  • Osu
  • Viscera Cleanup Detail
  • Civ V
  • Borderlands 1, 2, and Pre-Sequel
  • TF2 Surfing/Jumping

3. Very basic games that are hard to put down

4. Games you can emulate (all of these are easily found for free if you roll that way)

  • Older Final Fantasy Games (4, 5 are my favorites, simple gameplay that stood the test of time)
  • Final Fantasy Tactics series (turn-based with very customizable team setups)
  • Chrono Trigger is in the same vein as Final Fantasy, renowned as one of the best classic RPGs ever
  • N64 Zelda games
  • Paper Mario

Yeah, now that people mention Dishonored, that was about the last "big" title that managed to keep me engaged. Stealth gaming done absolutely right.

- Steamworld Dig
- Tomb Raider (especially the old ones <3)
- Torchlight I & II
- Southpark: The Stick of Truth
- Rayman Origins & Legends
- Mirror's Edge
- Alan Wake & Alan Wake's American Nightmare
- Borderlands 1 & 2
- Bastion
- Devil may Cry (Part 1-4, the new DMC: Devil may cry was horrible imo)

There's also a bunch of Playstation games I would recommend running on an emulator
- Shadows of the Colossus
- Ico
- Ratchet & Clank
- MGS: Snake Eater
- I guess also the Original Devil may cry since I'm not sure if it ever had a PC release
- Okami

Half-Life 1
・Crysis 1
Crysis Warhead
・Spyro Year of the Dragon

if you like turn based RPG's, fallout 2 is extremely good, and super cheap on steam.

download killap's restoration patch and knock yourself out, lots of hours of playtime.
