he is about to leave the room, he points at the tv and mentions "enjoy whatever this is". he knows im interested in animation. he made me move with the family from michigan to florida. my mom gets pissed when i get an attitude and tells me move back to michigan. they fuck me over and wont let me use the car to get a job. they sent me to rehab because I drank a lot in florida because i couldnt smoke pot. I sat in rehab for a month in a a half battling the influences and bullshit that consumed asshats that did drugs 10x harder then I ever considered in my life time.

how do I express my interests to my family as a career choice? I used to make a good amount of money back in michigan with my art. I want to start streaming and do lots of web projects in the same area as gaming. I even told them about the t-shirt company I wanted to start.

they used the fact that I was playing on a team as an exuses for drinking/late night activity for the last two years. I cant even commit for a team in esea this season because they keep threatening crazy shit with me. like what am i supposed to do, be homeless and commit to some team with mc donalds public wifi??

they are extreme backet cases with closet case protective tendencies. they had bad parents, they think im some sorta closet case because all I do is draw and work on shit at my desk.

they dont understand the kind of objectives and goals I have in life, what the fuck can I do? ive been trying to apply at local jobs within walking distance, but they keep turning me down without a car. what do i do? I feel like i'm in some kind of strangle-hold and cant move on with my life.

This. To give actual helpful advice unlike post #2, we need to know a little bit more about your situation. Your problem is not uncommon and I'm sure there are a lot better resources out there online instead of on a gaming forum.

ok

stop doing drugs and drinking

save the money that you were using on that to put towards a car

even a moped or something will work to start, fuck get a bike if you absolutely have to it'll increase the range you can travel fivefold at least

stop blaming other people for things (even if its their fault), theres no point and it'll just keep you from facing your issues head on

once you ahve transportation, get a job at mcdonalds or whatever and start saving your money

you live at home so you will be able to save some money from even a min wage job

once you have a good chunk of change put away (like 6 months rent+utilities at least) start looking for shitty apartments. youre gonna have to live somewhere shitty and you just need to get used to that

do your animation stuff on the side whenever you can. Really dedicate yourself to it if you love it.

stop feeling sorry for yourself and just make it happen.

For one thing, your art is good from what I have seen and it definitely has a place in the market, if you were making money with it before then I'm sure it's possible to keep doing it. We live in the digital age, it's not like you're stranded to some office to make money, hell, in your case you can pretty much work from anywhere as long as you have a computer and internet connection which you obviously seem to have.

Also, I think u need to be straightforward with your aspirations to your family, if they don't support (and even worse if they condemn you) then I wouldn't want to live with such people either. Unless u really do have a severe problem apart from what you're telling in that case it would be understandable they wouldn't trust you with the intent of protecting you.

Everyone has less good moments in your life u can't let that get to you, I don't wanna sound like I'm spitting some pseudoscience bullshit but you need to find some inner peace and settle all your ideas and thoughts down a bit. Also try and surround yourself with good people and you will be and feel good, if you have these "emotional vampires" in your life all the time that suck all the good thoughts and feelings out of it then you're always going to be in a downward spiral. I've been there, in some way or another, I had to make a choice and move out/change my surroundings to prevent getting into a real bad depression.

well gek, I have tried multiple times chattin with them, but they assume that even though they threw me in rehab and I still have interests in having a beer or two every other night they think I'm some kinda of crazy addict. Its worse when they talk to me about it and assume its connected with video games.

its different with how they spent time. they used to go out and party as kids every other night and think the moment I get shitfaced I have a problem. The last time I drank was within two weeks and I only went out and spent 5 bucks on tallboys! I dont even invest in that shit anymore and its been two years since Ive purchased over 100 bucks in pot. thats fucking silly.

Parents can be dumb, but you gotta play by their rules if you want anything from them. Cut the alcohol out of your life and get some sort of job, and hopefully they'll be a bit more understanding.

Otherwise, you might save up enough to get out on your own. Jobs are hard, but keep going at it. The bike suggestion is very good.

I'm going to throw my two cents in because I'm in a similar situation.

First off, I can only assume you're young, because your parents are able to threaten you with things that they can't threaten most people with. Even if that's the case, it doesn't affect what I'm about to say: My parents gave me my car as a gift, ergo, it's mine in its entirety. (Mostly. They tell me when I turn 18 in a few months that I have to pay a dollar to get the title to the car.)

I also have a job that pays for about 8 an hour. However, my parents are like yours and are way over protective. (Mine are so terrified of me playing competitive that they only give me an hour of gaming a day and make me go to bed at nine.) Because of this, my parents, like yours, will use any ammo against you that they may have. Ergo, I would suggest you wait until you're either old enough to move out, or if that's already the case, try and find a room mate. Because otherwise, even if your car is YOURS, chances are they will still threaten it, or sometimes even do what my parents do and threaten your job directly.

On the other hand. If you think I'm totally full of shit, I would suggest, in that case, that you save money however you can and use it to buy a bike. That way you won't get turned down as often and you can work your way up to a car. Just be careful not to be tempted to use the money for something else.

hate to be this guy, but you kind of sound like a pussy.

Sounds like you're just being lazy and making excuses for yourself into why your such a bad situation. (also I can't really respect the statement off "I had to overdrink because I couldn't smoke drugs." if you really need shit to relax you maybe you do need rehab) If you really can't stand your parents and they wont support you, move out. If you can't currently support yourself financially doing what you love to do, be a man and grind another job out until you can do what you want to do, literally 90% of people I know have had to work shitty jobs they didnt wanna do until they could do something else they wanted. me personally, my dad didnt really support me and hated what I liked, so I got the fuck out, went out west and worked the oil sands and made enough money to put myself through school and Im currently in a job I love.

Sometimes you have to cut the "woe is me" "the world is against me" routine and just get on with your life.

a lot of people are going to give you tough love kind of shit because that's all they really know, and unfortunately its more complicated than "just snap out of it." tough love doesn't help unless you have a very specific mindset and personality.

sounds like depression to me, in which case telling someone that its their fault only really makes it worse.

i don't have a solution and really nobody else does, the best thing i can recommend is to try and find a close friend you can confide in and trust (even if they're online or something and you can't actually hang out with them), and if that's not an option try to find a therapist even though i know that can be pretty scary. i'm assuming you've tried talking with your parents because who hasn't??

what helps me is making sure people know that the best way to help me out is to show sympathy, not offer solutions because odds are they haven't really been there

i don't have all the answers, or even good attempts at answers though

good luck man

I'm sure this has been said before in the thread, but a few crucial points:

-Cut drugs and alcohol out of your life if they are harmful. Theres no reason you cant drink/use recreational drugs responsibly later in life, but it seems like thats not now for you. Some people can't use them responsibly because they just take it too far, some people can't afford drugs/alcohol, some people can't risk the run-ins with the law or their parents. It really doesn't matter what your reason is or if its "justified". I think all drugs should be legal but I don't go around doing lines off of the hoods of cop cars (for ALL of the reasons I referenced)

-What Mr_Owl said about the bike. Even a 3-4+ mile commute is very doable on a bike, and you can get something really fucking cheap off of craigslist (although depending on distance you might need to get like 1 hour with the car to pick up the bike itself lol). With a very basic set of tools and a pump you can pretty much keep any bike functional. Honestly if you live at home and I assume they like aren't denying you food and shit, you can probably save everything. Working like 2 weeks even at min wage saving everything is easily enough for a cheap craigslist bike. If you get lucky sometimes you can find one for free.

I'm not trying to be an asshole but Future joins our mumble a lot and by the sound of it he hasn't smoked weed in his life. I'm also pretty sure Future's parents have given him quite a bit in the way of supporting his hobbies by providing the tools he needs. Future is just a 14 year old stuck in a twenty-somethings body.

your parents are treating you this way because of your past behavior. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior..! if you are not able to leave their household and become independent, then you will need to prove to your parents that you ARE deserving of their trust. Humor them by being a good boy for awhile, and continue to do your art (which is really amazing by the way, and you definitely have a gift). Show them that you're serious about repairing your relationship with them and that you're serious about an art career. Otherwise it's gonna be a loooong road before they get off your back.

No offense but every addict spouts the same shit and are in denial about their problem. Honestly it sounds like you think your parents owe you a home and food and everything without you actually achieving anything. If you're 18, your parents could just kick you out of the house. The fact they're keeping you there is because they want you to do something with your life but you're not going anywhere, just making excuses for why you aren't.

Notice how most people in this thread aren't buying your shit. You may not realize almost all your excuses are shit. Your dream isn't coming true if you aren't willing to make sacrifices for what you want. Like everyone said, stop dropping money on alcohol even if it's just every 1-2 weeks. Give up TF2, some internet time, etc and do the work. Make a plan to actually get somewhere, even if it's not the closest thing to your dream. You have to change to actually change your situation. What you're doing now isn't getting you anywhere closer to where you want to be. I know because half the things I want to do I never end up doing due to my bad habits.

tl;dr Don't expect to get anywhere without drastically changing your habits or luck. I suggest not gambling on something to suddenly make a break for you. Try reading a book like The 7 Habits or something (I'm sure you can find a way to get it) and think about if what you're doing is actually getting you where you want to be.

hey, its not a short term solution and not sure if its up your alley but theres like actually a ridiculous amount of money to be had selling art at game / anime / comicon conventions if you wanna double down, draw a few of your favorite game characters in that sick style of yours, and make a few prints. I know metro-con, (tampa, early june) opens tables febuary 1st, if you're planning on sticking in the area.
