The lack of dialogue made it far less interesting than the other big SFM, also this was less ridiculous, unfortunately...

I'm not sad to see snowplow cut, but I'm REALLY sad to see how their work completely went to waste. Maps are a hell of a lot harder to make than items. I hope that they get compensated for their time in some way, but I don't know whether it'll happen.

I can imagine it must really suck for them, especially if you just know the utter hell that that map has gone through. Making a map under that kind of pressure with another person who isn't completely in sync with you (YM and Frozen aren't always on the same page for sure) is just absolutely rough. They'd scrapped so many ideas because they were too complex, as well.

But I mean, it's not completely wasted for them. Frozen and YM get a hell of a portfolio piece out of it. It's easily their most technically amazing maps for each of them, definitely for Frozen. It's also an amazing learning experience due to the flow of style they worked with instances in map design in Source.

I've seen Frozen change so much in the last 6 months as a person and a mapper. It's astounding how impressive he's become.

Sorry, I just rambled a bit. The map may not have the greatest gameplay and absolutely no relevance to the comp scene (never would have), but I'm amazed at what they did, especially in such a short notice.

I lost interest during the first 3 minutes.

We’ve got hats, some hat-like body coverings, a couple of unusual effects, a taunt and a new weapon.

McVee...I reiterated every time I mentioned weapons. They weren’t guaranteed. We were asked to tell the public what we wanted to do. Not what was done. One ended up in Love & War. The others didn’t make the quality cut. Valves opinions on the map [cp_snowplow] was that it was too complex for new players and was removed. But the final map is available publicly. Just not on official Valve servers.

From the director and head animator McVee's blog. I have friends who worked on this update so I'm going to put all the goddamn ducks I can stuff into my pockets to help them out and put money in their pockets. But for those who don't and wanted more, here's an explanation as to what happened to cp_snowplow as well as any chance of new weapons.

This movie was under development over a year ago, so it's understandable that it seems to be outshined by other SFM films we saw this year. Cinematically, it was really visually breath-taking, and I enjoyed all the little jokes like the welcome mat in front of the bomb. The train wreck though, that was really stunning to me

fyi this has been a community-developed update since a year ago, this was not intended to be a major update. Valve just gave it a little extra to shoot for

Well I was moreso referring to the sfm. A lot of people in this thread seem to be complaining about it, despite it's absolutely monstrous length given the visual content and 3D content, and the simply stellar soundtrack.

Might I add that relying on so much custom content for this SFM and how hard and far they had to push the engine to get it to do this stuff (primarily the massive train and landscape shots), that really makes for a whole lot of work and resources to produce.

The SFM is the real focus and achievement here, unfortunately, as opposed to the update itself. I can understand that Valve probably doesn't want to take attention away from the SFM, but for how much hype EotL had, the update content was a major letdown, especially considering the progress of the map that was being made.

Oh well.

Valve just doesn't trust the community that's kept their game going for the last 5 or 6 years to make a good update.

Then again I can see where they're coming from. Have you seen some of the community weapon stats that are discussed and suggested in the workshop?

The EOTL map cp_snowplow was cut because it was too complex for new players, according to Valve: http://forums.tf2maps.net/showpost.php?p=315021&postcount=67

Ironic since they created tc_hydro and there's still cp_steel as a map.

Can someone tell me why there are literally beautiful new weapon designs every other day in the steam workshop but valve seems content adding one or two every 'major' update? I'm sincerely curious.

Are you actually advocating shitting out crappy new unlocks so we have to keep downloading updates every 2 weeks? Unless you just want more reskins, but it's much better to actually have them spaced out.

Also this honestly doesn't seem like a major update (although it replaces any Christmas events since it ends next year). I mean all they did was add ducks and a new crate.

IMO, the SFM short was really good (great soundtrack), but the way Valve handled the whole thing made it pretty bad (a pyro taunt, a meele reskin, $5 silly duck event, etc).

All I was saying is that with updates like this, there is a lot of opportunities to add weapons to the game, instead of adding a simple reskin as done in this one. I'm not for or against it, I'd just like to know if adding more weapons than they already do is such a catastrophic idea.
