more offensive than any part of what this guy is doing.

boppetI honestly want to know what anyone of you who thinks he is a hero would have done if he had walked into your room and started filming without reason.
He's either very brave or stupid, because I see no point in literally shoving a camera in peoples' faces - it's intrusive. I'll be honest and say I would have a hard time not getting physical with someone who refuses to stop recording; he literally was politely asked to leave what seemed to be a college classroom and then came back just for the sake of 'entertainment'.
Anybody could do this, you just have to be a big enough of an asshole.

It'd be weird and it'd make me uncomfortable, but it wouldn't inspire an angry or violent reaction from me. It's interesting to watch what people do when they're made uncomfortable, or put in an unfamiliar situation. And their reactions show just how little experience most of them have with it. It's ok to explore something you don't like without changing your mind. Recognize it for the value experiences like that can have, even if they aren't fun.

That would be illegal. In the U.S. (can't speak for other countries), taking photos of people in public on public property is 100% legal.

It is definitely legal to photograph/video tape people in public in the US.

not quite sure why people are trying to break down what hes doing....this is pretty much the equivalent of what the paparazzi does except hes not filming famous people just random people in every day life thats it.

when he walks (or trespasses) into places hes pretty much just trying to see how far he can get and whats gonna happen, a lot of people out there in the real world just like to get under your skin or push the envelope as much as possible whether they find it amusing or just for the hell of it, nothing complex here just a guy with a camera thats all

And I really don't like these types of people. I am fine with saying that. It's like those "prank" videos where it's actually just people being complete assholes. Walking up to some random person on the street and insulting them isn't a prank whether you are filming it or not. I dislike that some people are trying to excuse this behavior.

of course i don't either and you can see in the video that many people disapprove of being filmed for no reason. fact of the matter is there are a lot of people out there like this guy...which is why people look down on the paparazzi so much as well. its intrusive and obnoxious, some people ignore it while others react. this guy obviously seems like a douche for what hes doing but hes getting attention which is definitely what he wants

after skimming some of the comments on the first page of this thread i think a lot of you are full of shit its funny on the other side of the spectrum (just watching the videos at home and seeing how people react in the worst way possible) but if someone randomly jammed a camera in your face and didn't say a word i seriously doubt you would be able to ignore it or pretend it doesn't annoy you

jesus christ people are so easily angered. I mean they're mostly old so I'm not surprised. I remember watching a video of his a while back and it made me cringe but it's actually interesting how people respond to him whether it be anger, insecurity, or curiosity.

I don't think what he's doing is right but it's a cool experiment.

holy shit some people are so fucking brainless it's hilarious. in the later videos when he doesn't respond people just keep asking him what he's doing without his response. it's like they're robots or something.

i remember seeing 2 different instances in one of his videos, a some what younger crowd of people protesting and completely ignoring him and another one looked like 2 jehovah witnesses. they were just asking him questions, smiling and eventually gave him their card and just walked away and they didn't get heated at all. older people definitely get really offended and fly off the handle pretty easily, but younger people it doesn't bother as much they kind of just play around or ignore it.

Guys an asshole. The videos are funny, but I don't get how you can be on his side when he actively intrudes on people for no reason at all.

I mean yeah a lot of people in the video are overreacting, but when somebody stalks you for a while or tries to invade private events people are going to get pissed/annoyed.

Back in college I went to a discussion forum hosted by a campus group devoted to a pretty controversial topic. Some protesters came and started videotaping and photographing random people in the audience. They mistakenly believed I was the son of someone important, and so when I made efforts to avoid the cameras they kept them trained on me the entire time. I wasn't embarrassed by being at the event, but I had no idea what they were going to use the footage for and so I wanted no part in that. After holding a notebook between me and the cameras for about half an hour, they were finally chased out by security.

Later they ended up uploading the footage to a "hit list" on a website devoted to that sort of thing. Fortunately for me, the image wasn't the greatest and they got all my personal information wrong (like I said, I think they confused me with someone else), but it is pretty fucking frightening. On the plus side, the photo was taken down a year or so after and website itself is no longer available.

So yeah, I can definitely understand why people would get angry if they're being filmed, especially if they're somewhere private.

I don't see any issue with what he's doing in the streets but when he enters the gambling houses, it's a bit of an invasion of privacy.

Definitely some dark stuff you see when he runs into those mentally ill addicts.

_KermitD_goesprobablyhugelove-i dont get it whats the point of this?
hes recording the ugly parts of our society, trying to raise awareness for what some goverments do or showing how people react if they where aware of beeing filmed and monitored. Basically it also puts pressure on government institutions like the NSA or KGB and will maybe make people revolt against surveillance and control in the end... atleast thats how I interpretate it, this dude is a hero

How is a classroom full of students one of the "ugly parts of our society"? As the professor in the video Moritz linked clearly states, it's a private classroom that he is intruding on and wasting peoples time and money. He's is quite simply being an asshole and then when asked anything he just says "huh?" At best he is a moron that thinks he's making an amazing observation of the human psyche and at worst he is a completely mislead idiot that has no care for anyones privacy or time and seems to show he has almost 0 respect for those he is filming. From what I've watched this man is in no way, shape or form, "a hero".

I understand the point about surveillance and how people don't care about security cameras and how often they're filmed. The huge difference here is that not only is he actively intruding on them, he himself has much more presence than a camera, in a box, in a corner of a room. That's my two cents at least.

Alright let me get this straight..

First of all I never said anything about that classroom beeing an ugly part of society. Maybe you misread what I said or youre turning my words around for some reason but I said: [...] trying to raise awareness for what some goverments do or showing how people react [...] I know that hes beeing quiet frankly an asshole by intruding peoples homes and I wouldnt like if somebody did that to me aswell.

Let me explain tho why I said he is a hero (in context of the video in OP and not of the rest posted in this thread, as my first post was in context of this aswell...):

At the moment, in the modern world almost everybody seems to film whoever he wants, when he wants and where he wants. Be it kids with cellphone cameras, TV-shows with normal or "hidden cameras" that are trying to get the best of people, Youtubers that are trying to set the next big trend by e.g. pranking the casual citizen, your friends that want to show you whats going on at some place with a video or photo.

The thing that these examples and the surveillance camera mans video have common, is that people are getting filmed without permission, for entertainment or their privacy is intruded.

The thing that differs the surveillance guys video from the rest is, that hes making the people painfully aware of beeing filmed by constantly going in their face with the camera. (At this point let me say, that I dont really like his videos, but still think the statement is overall good.)
People are constantly getting filmed if they like it or not and nobody seems to do anything about it, now this guy gives people the opportunity to act against surveillance by giving it a face and shows this way very clearly imo how much people hate getting recorded and thus I also said that it puts pressure on e.g. the NSA or the KGB in the end..

Maybe youre right and this guy is a complete moron thats trying to entertain people in a really odd and not particulary sane way, but I still think the video makes a good point.
