Keeping Track of Uber Advantage

I am playing Med for steel 6s this summer season and am having trouble keeping track of uber advantages with everything else that is going on. This is my first time play competitive med but I have been play competitive tf2 for a while now. I was just wondering if there was any good system to remind me to check when med is down and up rather than checking tab constantly? I want to improve my skills as much as I can and if it is just a "the more you do it the more it will improve" kind of thing I understand. I was just wondering if there was any way to really focus on it. Thanks!

watch the killfeed and know when the med dies then check when med is up and you can count uber advantage

You can do it by the second by watching when the medic spawns and subtracting 40 seconds from the total time left in the map, or you can compare it to how much uber you have currently. The latter method doesn't work if you're dead while the medic is still up, you can compensate by seeing how long you are dead for. For example, if the medic spawns while you're still dead, and you spawn in 10 seconds, then they will have 25% advantage.

40 seconds = building uber as fast as possible
30 seconds = building kritz as fast as possible

The total maptime left method is probably the safest, but I don't always use that. It depends on a handful of situations and what's going on. Do what works for you, as long as you have a really good idea of where your uber is vs their uber.

Fragile pretty much nailed it, it's not really that hard to do once you get the hang of it, you just need to practice. Honestly, once you learn it it's pretty easy to keep track of advantages even when you're not the one playing Medic, though you're probably not going to be able to be as precise as the guy who has a constant visual on how much uber he has and how fast he's charging.

I'd recommend going into scrims with the mindset of "okay, I want to make sure that I'm tracking ubers as best as I can", if you do that you'll probably have it down pat within a few weeks. It's really not that hard, I promise.

whenever their med spawns or fades hit tab and look at the server time and add 20 to the seconds. they will have uber the next time there are that many seconds.

ex.
med spawns at 10:32
32+20=52
the med will have uber at 9:52 the soonest

for the 50's just replace 5 with 1
for the 40's just remove the 4

also kritz takes 32 seconds

Ok wow thank you all for your help. I will definitely implement all of this in tonight's scrim.

Tab is your friend. Make sure your team calls when they get a medic pick and make sure you identify who that person is early in the game. Watch the kill feeds during team altercations and make sure you watch for the spawn time of the medic.

This isn't something you should necessarily be doing by yourself. Top players will be watching this even if they're playing fragging classes. Many top players will also say, "medic's up" if they are pressing tab when he spawns.

Ultimately you want to rely on yourself the most, but it's a good idea to get your team looking at it as well. If you're not healing, just remember that uber is 2.5% per second. It's generally best to assume the other medic is healing the instant he spawns unless he's the only player alive on that team.

It really does boil down to, "the more you play, the easier it will become". Focusing on the little details will become easier as you gain experience because the bigger details like positioning will become second nature.

I'm nowhere near as good at medic or tracking as these guys, so I'll just add that you should always assume they will have uber at the fastest possible time unless you have information to the contrary and not trust when your teammates say "oh I doubt they were building that hard anyway let's just push."

nerobe fluffyanimals and always keep a stopwatch on hand

If more medics had the voice of fluffyanimals, I think there'd be less shitlord ragers in tf2

Honestly I'd say just get used to pressing tab more. It's literally the easiest thing you can do by yourself to track ubers better. Usually if you have time to think about uber, you're probably not engaged in a team fight or in a really hectic situation - which means you can probably press tab real quick and check to see if their med is up.

But another really good system for checking uber is asking your teammates, cuz they'll know if they killed the med. And then you can estimate how much of an advantage you have based on that.

And yeah uber in 40, kritz in 30. The rest is just training yourself to keep thinking about it.

Look at the map timer for when the med spawns and you can use these subtratctions to give you the time that they will have uber

Uber Clean build (earliest possible time): 40s
Uber Dirty build (average case): 50s
Kritz (likely to be built as fast as possible): 30s

The Kritz number is not exact (It's actually 32) but it pays to get ready for a kritz well if you are at a disadvantage.

I then just made this chart. I based mine off the clean build

:00 - :20
:10 - :30
:20 - :40
:30 - :50
:40 - :00
:50 - :10

I put that on a sticky note and pasted it to my monitor, after about 2 weeks of scrimmaging it was second nature. You can base yours of the dirty build or do it manually if you're wanting to push off of such a small possibility of advantage. Kritz is easier to do in your head because it's 30s, but you can make one for that too.

Good luck, medic is fun.
