Really nice, but it looks like the 5 is being cut off in all three instances. Not sure if that's intentional in the font or not.

This is just a test, but is there a way to make the edges smooth? I am guessing that it depends on how I make the original image before converting to .vtf, but maybe there is a setting in VTFEdit? Also, is there a way to import vector images into VTFEdit? I tried EPS, SWG, and PDF and VTFEdit didn't recognize any of them.

How do you guys using custom vtfs keep your image edges so smooth?

I´m probably talking out of my arse here but are you sure the aliasing is a result of the import? Have you tried blurring it in a painting program before the import? There is some stuff about sharpen/unsharpening in the advanced tab of the import menu, maybe you could try fiddling around with that?

Also, nice to see someone playing around with the bxhud menu :)

I essentially remade indust's medic edit of raysHUD cos it seemed like less work than to edit his version for my res (which is 4:3) (credit to him for the idea)
other edits: ompHUD ammo colours, garm3n Q-F buff/low and killfeed colours, bigger+bright green healtarget ammo count (and no ammo icon), seeker's+konrwings xhairs active

Does anyone know why the import of this gif into VTFEdit fails?

It would be incredibly awesome to get this into a loading screen.

Edit: Ah, seems like I have to import the frames.

This one looks quite nice, too. http://i.imgur.com/vMbEA3h.gif

Proof of concept: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u1f3vd3uck89yjr/gifinsert%20concept.zip

This is a broken HUD with only the converted gifs showing in the main menu. Install this like you´d install a normal HUD.

I´m probably going to implement this into a loading screen when I´m not too lazy. Thanks for the help, guys. :)

Here is how I did it:

- I found the loading gifs by accident on

http://www.reddit.com/r/loadingicon

..and extracted the frames to .png format with

http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-extract-frames-from-gif-animation-image/

(The GIF Frame Extractor from evanolds gives one heuristic alert on Virustotal.com (it´s probably a false positive but you can´t be too careful)

- In VTFEdit, I clicked import and selected all images in the folder. After clicking 'open', I chose 'Animated Texture' in the following menu for 'Texture Type' under 'General'.
Please note that both gifs show up with different framerates/speeds in the demo above. You can change this property in the .VMT file if you open it with Notepad/Notepad++ and change the value for "animatedtextureframerate".

That is awesome, nice work! The cat one is easily my favorite.

Now the question would be on how to move the loading window from the bottom right and if it´s possible to blend the "window elements" into the background. Bonus points for doing this without affecting other elements, although this will probably only require the colors to get changed within some file itself, rather than changing the dependencies in the clientscheme. I´ll probably figure this out in the coming days.

A good site to use for documentation on the TF2 HUD is: http://www.doodlesstuff.com/?tutorial=tf2hud

Also, if you use "vgui_drawtree 1" command and check "highlight selected", you can sort through the list to find HUD elements you are trying to edit as well.

Not sure if this information was posted previously, but it's very useful for those of you who were unaware.

Heyo all you HUD geniuses, I have a few questions! Most of it directly relates to a better experience playing 6's.

I think that the scoreboard is mostly a waste of space and I hate always having to press tab to check on valuable information. The only things I find useful are the player names and the time left on the server (in the half).

1. Is there any way to have server time constantly up without having to press tab?
2. Is there any way to show player names and whether they are dead or alive, also without having to press tab?

If not, I might like to commission someone to make a super-clean tab interface =P
