On another note, Inside Man is really good as well

It'd be way to hard to list my favorite movies but some recent ones I've loved - Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 1-3 (swedish versions), Brick, Sound of Noise, and Timecrimes.

Hitchcock, Kubrick, Tarantino, or the Coen brothers are all fantastic directors and worth watching pretty much all their movies. Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, Ridley Scott, and David Lynch are all good as well although they have a few duds, imo.

The departed
fun with dick and jane(1977 one, new one is alright)
Batman with adam west(it's just so goofy)
unbreakable
the legend of the drunken master
grand Torino
blazing saddles
robin hood men in tights
monty python and the quest for the holy grail

and my very favorite would be: the best of youth. It's kind of a mini series but it's fantastic.

Rashomon
Yojimbo
Sanjuro

So basically stuff by Akira Kurosawa. Also anything by Kubrick. Fuck. Too many things to list.

If you say you like action movies, try Korean thrillers like Oldboy or I Saw the Devil. They're usually a lot grittier than most American thrillers, so it could interest you.
