Whenever my team gets rolled 3 or 4 rounds, I just become a pissy bitch. It no longer becomes fun for me or any of the people that play with me. How can I stop getting so mad at this dumb video game?

Think of positive things that you guys are doing instead of the negative.

Its okay , your first team will be like that. Instead of getting discouraged i used it to motivate me to become better. If you don't give up you'll eventually improve and succeed at your goals. Try to keep your attitude positive and instead of getting mad figure out your mistakes.

vocalising a positive attitude even if you feel really shitty can help you and your team a lot

you just need to make peace with the fact that you're not the best yet. everyone makes mistakes even the best. just learn from your mistakes and eliminate them and you'll improve

Depends on how you see the game, but the way I personally avoid getting upset is to remember "play to get better, not to win".

Also what class do you play and what div/skill level?

I'd rather lose every scrim and win every match then win every scrim and lose every match. You want to play people better than you and sometimes it'll take a few rolls to get everyone to start playing tight and paying attention.

brush your teeth before scrims, even if you lose - you'll still have a great smile! :D

be positive after the fact. Mention good things. For example, we won a mid. Then understand how you did.

Depends on what you get mad at. Some people get mad at themselves, some get mad at their teammates, some get mad at the server, etc. It's best to just figure out why you're getting rolled and think of the future instead of getting too focused on the current game. Blaming teammates and what not makes it harder for the team to fix things in the future, and if you blame yourself work on DM or something.

you must realize that no external force has the ability to make you feel a certain way. only you can do that. we are trapped in a flesh and blood body, you are unable to experience anything that happens outside of your head. everything you think, perceive, touch, feel or experience is nothing more than electrical and chemical signals squirting/flowing around in your brain. some of these are automatically translated; you don't have to learn to be able to see, you just see. others require you to interpret them; when someone is speaking you hear a bunch of words but they mean nothing until you've learned to understand their language.

now back to your situation, understand that every time you get rolled YOU are the one deciding to become a pissy bitch because at one point you "learned" it's acceptable or that you're supposed to act like a pissy bitch whenever you get rolled. your teammates do not control your mindset or actions, neither do your opponents. neither your situation or environment. it's YOU. so next time you get rolled make a conscious effort to not act like a pissy bitch. let go.

can we be calm and collected even in the face of major adversity? certainly it would take a great deal of practice to get to the point where even the most damaging or grievous losses would not disturb us. but every step in that direction will make those occasions fewer and farther in between.

Take a deep breath, and instead of thinking, "OMG THIS TEAM IS SO ****ING BAD, WE'RE ****" just calm down and think about what you can do to adapt. If all fails, focus on smaller aspects. For example, focus on winning the midfight, etc.

what helped me a lot was this video (via this ozfortress thread).

basically i'd go into games expecting to win or at least play good, which meant i was always expecting that i would hit that pipe/win this middle/deny that roamer etcetcetc in any given circumstance. if i didnt (even knowing that of course even the best make mistakes) then i'd be bummed because man i could've hit that fucking goddamnit their roamer just keeps jumping me what a shitlord this team is aids yadayadayada.

from that initial frustration it can snowball hard and you end up with a shitty night.

the trick is to remove this thought process entirely. from the very start you shouldn't be thinking about the score. you shouldn't be expecting to hit that pipe/win that middle/deny that roamer. this "outcome dependency" (copyright ddk) leads to that frustration/sadness/anger. instead, focus on individual moments in the present - that is what deserves your attention the most.

if you have 12 minutes you should def give the above video a watch, ddk is hella clever

You're not alone, trust me, it kind of scares me how many people I've encountered who have no control over their emotions. One thing you have to accept is that the feelings you experience when you lose/get rolled/play poorly aren't going to go away and, short of death or various drugs(not recommended), nothing is going to change that. However, there are many things you can do to make it manageable and even in some cases less potent of a feeling.

For me personally, I think what helped was repetition. I played the shit out of comp tf2 for several years, getting rolled and eventually seeing progress in my performance and my peers. Nowadays it's pretty easy to control myself as far as getting angry or sad goes because I have a lot of experience with it and I've learned to develop my own coping mechanisms/solutions.

I stopped cussing for a period of time and I found my enjoyment of games was boosted. I guess muttering "faggot" or something every time something was mildly displeasing only put me in a worse mood, so why do it? Keeping the things you say neutral or positive can actually affect my mood when playing.

It also does help to remember that it's just a game that has zero bearing on you as a person or your life. It's supposed to be fun, so if you're not having a good time then stop as soon as you can and calm down with something else.

The only way to achieve excellence in anything is to lose more than anyone else. Stop being a crybaby and figure out what went wrong.

Man up. You can handle this. There is no need to ask us.

It is just a game. Remind yourself that in the grand scheme of things: success, life, and happiness, no one will care that your team was rolled. I don't even care right now.

It makes zero difference in defining who you are, so don't let it affect who you are.

I take a 15 minute break and then go through the demo to find out what the other team did that was better than us, once I do that and I find out what I need to do to improve it becomes a lot easier to handle when you get shat upon.

Look at it as a learning experience. When you get rolled go back and watch the stv as a team. See what went wrong, see what went right, watch what the team who rolled you did. Getting rolled once in a while can be helpful. If all you ever do is play teams who you easily beat you won't be ready for better teams.

Teamwork is super important, knowing how to play each map as a team is also super important. Practice practice practice
