Improving my aim

I don't really post on forums often so i'm not sure if this is the right category, oh well.

I've been playing tf2 for a little over a year and am really interested in the competitive scene. The problem is my aim is pretty bad, i play mge but 90% of the time i get wrecked 20-6, which makes it less enjoyable. Does anyone have any advice/ tips to improve my aim, or ways to help my aim other than mge?

btw i play soldier

search on forums "how to get better/improving my aim" ect.

there's millions of these threads no need to make another just to receive the same answers.

think about why you are missing if you are playing in mge
can you keep up with your target comfortably?
are you trailing behind their model? raise your sensitivity
are you passing over them before shooting? lower your sensitivity

change things up
play with things until you start hitting things comfortably

maybe you're losing a lot in mge due to movement/positioning rather than your aim

play dm
play in pubs
play in pugs
play with a team
play a lot

when you aim, try to not fuck your aim up with your own strafe. don't autopilot either, actually aim. A lot of people just hold m1 and don't think about it. watch how your opponent moves, a ton of people do the same shit over and over without thinking about it and you can use that to your advantage. Aiming becomes a LOT easier when you know where they're going to be.

work on prediction, don't care about winning/losing in mge. Also keep in mind that aim is not everything, being a smart player will win you fights as well. Being a good teammate is more important than being able to 1v1 someone on flank. at least in my opinion

It's all about the practice. Find out what works for you, if its DM and MGE then do that but make sure your gamesense is still intact. Some people just get their DM from pugging and scriming. Maybe even pubs! idk

there are some tf2 maps that may help you, like tr_aim / tr_aim_training_b13.. but the real key is practicing hard, dm and mge are really good

I just got a zowie evo ec2 and the sensor feels sooo responsive. But I feel like when I move the mouse slowly its correct, and when it's faster, there is acceleration or that when I move fast its fine and when I move it slowly, there is some sort of negative accel. Is this possible? Or is this just because I am not used to it coming from a crappy mouse? I have a coloured mouse pad if it matters

Is your enhanced pointer precision turned on in your Windows Mouse settings? This use to do well, back in ball mouses, but with laser technology it actually inhibits them. Check your settings in your Control Panel > Hardware And Sound > Devices and Printers > Mouse > Pointer Options.

Also, I find that Rocketfish mousepads are the best for gaming mice. It's a metal mouse pad that has two sides, one for speed and one for accuracy. Just some suggestions.

I have this enabled because I like it for windows. But raw input 1 in tf2 makes that a non factor, right?

dont focus on how you click on people just focus on clicking on them

try to get a good knowledge of how each class works as theres a lot of crossover between movement/aim/dodging

i think one of the biggest mistakes people make is playing soldier for 1900 hours when their next most played is scout with 90- you miss out on a lot of the game and how it works when you only see it from one point of view

its also a lot more fun to not only play your main all the time

at least for me

Are you missing because you don't know where they're going to go, or are you missing because you know where they're going to go, but you just can't place your crosshair in the exact spot?

Practice more and practice smarter. Analyze your own aim and figure out why your missing, and work on fixing that. "My aim is bad" is just vague and not helpful to anyone.

Trying harder and thinking gives you better practice. Losing most of the time isn't a bad thing because if it's a challenge you're forced to improve, it's a bad thing if you stop trying and give up. Maintaining morale can be tough, but that's what you've gotta do if you wanna get better.

I'm pretty sure I know where they are going, but cant seem to put my crosshair in that exact spot.

Are you trying to hit more consistent 70+ DMG rockets or are you trying to hit more shots in general, regardless of exactly how much your shots do? Try playing directs in MGE. It's probably the best arena for improving your ability to predict movement and placing your crosshair in the best position.

predict where they're goingand shoot rockets there

or play the class you're trying to fight for a while in mge/pugs and think about "hey, i wanna dodge them like this" and use that to counter the dude

Basically play more and practise. Also, make sure your mouse settings are comfortable and relax, too.

Don't get too caught up on aim though. I made that mistake when I was starting out; I did get pretty decent at aiming but my movement, positioning and general gamesense were trailing behind and it led to a lot of attitude and other problems on my part.

Prediction and finding how movement affects aim is crucial (especially as a soldier where so much twitch aim is required.)
