#6 New guy wanting to get into competitive in TF2 General Discussion

Also, don't get discouraged by people that say you're shit and you don't know how to play the game. There will always be people like that but if you enjoy the game, you keep at it. Along the way you'll also find people who are really willing to help you. Yes, tf2center is a good place to start once you've figured out the basic rules and how it works.

To figure out how everything works, you might also wanna check this out http://comp.tf/wiki/6v6 and this http://comp.tf/wiki/Highlander.
Highlander and 6v6 are the 2 main formats for competitive tf2 and when joining a tf2center, you will recognise which of these it is by the maximum number of people allowed in. Good luck!

EDIT: if you have any specific questions, feel free to add me or anyone who posts in this thread. We want to make you feel welcome here and we'll help out with anything we can!

Can anyone else please confirm or deny this? or better yet link to a source
It's pretty important for me because I wanna build plans around being able to watch it :D

I've been looking everywhere, can someone tell me are the finals on the 25th?
It says i52 is on from 22nd to 25th and I'm assuming that's when the finals are. I'm not trolling, I appreciate if someone can answer this

#19 Lightboost? in Hardware

To give you my personal opinion, if you can find a decent 120hz used monitor with like 1-2ms (which I'm pretty sure most of them are) for half the price, just go with that. There's some decent ones that I've found on my local used website
And yes, there's a difference between 120 and 144 hz, but it's probably not worth the huge increase in price. If you can get a cheap enough 120hz then just be happy with it because it's damn good.
And my advice is don't bother with lightboost

#12 FPS config needed or not in Q/A Help
Snowdreamtornados2111Something that people haven't mentioned is input lag. I have found that dx 9 significantly increases input lag, even if you get good frames. I definitely recommend to anyone to try a config or at least just to set dx8 for a week and see if you can come back.
Of course some people are more or less sensitive to it but I'd recommend at least trying it out

I actually don't notice a difference between the two in terms of mouse movement, but dx9 feels much more responsive in terms of shooting. I still play on dx8 for the extra fps, though.
(For reference, I can't stand playing on lightboost because of the input lag)

That's interesting. I would say that yes, shooting does feel more responsive and for the lack of better comparison I would say it almost feels a bit more quake. But to me I have found mouse movement to also be less sluggish. I cannot tell specifically that it's more input lag, but it definitely feels sluggish.
For reference, I too don't play with lightboost

#7 Making macros/scripts in TF2 General Discussion
Twistedalias "dm" "[connect string]"

Type dm in console to get connected to your wanted server.

You can replace "dm" with whatever letters you want.

yeah man, sounds even easier. Thanks!

#4 Making macros/scripts in TF2 General Discussion

Holy shit guys, after loads of googling I couldn't find any of this.
Thanks for your help!!!

EDIT: Also I have a question about this, as random as it may seem. Does any of this cause any input lag? Am I wrong to say that as you press down a key, it then looks for if that key was one of the scripted ones and then only after it will execute in game actions? or does this sound like total bs and I am completely wrong? :D

#1 Making macros/scripts in TF2 General Discussion

Hi. First off, no, I don't have a keyboard with macro keys, I just wanna use some of the many keys I have that I don't use. Now to my firstworldproblems

Yesterday I donated to a DM server so I could get a reserved slot. I later found out it only works if I put in the connect string every time... Yes, of course this is a bit annoying. I have tried just setting binds to connecting to the server but guess what - it only works when you are already on another server, not in the in-game menu. I also find that I could do some other useful stuff with that

So anyway, I'm looking to somehow make my own script or maybe someone knows a good program to do this? Other suggestions for solutions to the problem are also welcome

#3 What's a good mousepad for the Zowie FK1 in Hardware

I have a zowie evo mouse, which if I'm not mistaken is a similar sensor as as from the fk1. Mine doesn't track very well on coloured surfaces (skips sometimes) so I'd avoid that.
Otherwise I don't know if there's anything very specific for that mouse but qck/qck heavy/qck mass etc are a good choice anyway.
I know there's another popular one, (puretrak talent I think?) which has like a hexagon pattern. You'd need someone who has actually used that combination to find out if there are any problems.
Good luck!
