Can anyone tell me what exactly to look for when watching a demo or spectating someone who is hacking? Sometimes it's very obvious, but often I have a hard time noticing. I'd like to be able to understand this better though. I just watched the peppers demo and I honestly couldn't see anything that made it obvious he was hacking. What exactly should I be looking for? I slowed down the demo, turned on viewmodels and bullet tracers. only thing I did notice was sometimes it looked like his crosshair was making very subtle, stuttery left-right movements.

The sort of people that choose sniper as their main class in a 6v6 lobby? Pretty much.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Peppers2swaq
http://steamcommunity.com/id/TheAlmightyPeppers

their's also 2 gavins
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198096583705
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Neopharmaphobia

2 people in their with the same profile pic
http://steamcommunity.com/id/scampers
http://steamcommunity.com/id/BEPZINKY

3 accounts that were not set to private with VAC bans on record
http://steamcommunity.com/id/bitchassnigga
http://steamcommunity.com/id/BunnyKilleR
http://steamcommunity.com/id/joseph3114

A lot of these accounts are less than 3 months old.

quite possibly the sketchiest steam group I've seen.

Nothing perfect, but there's some general stuff I learned from people studying quake and tf aimbots (humanized ones)

- Inhuman consistency (keeps doing the same things with the same level of success, no overall variation)
[that is, if they keep landing the same kinds of twitches and twitch the same way all the time. if they never have highlights or bad skill moments. if they always do really well right when they're gonna get fucked over. just examples of the underlying idea. this is an extremely specific underlying concept and I just want to make sure people know I'm not saying "they always do well".]
- *Extremely* high accuracy in general with really really really really bad movement
- Perfect tracking
- Crosshair following extremely subtle movements on the target all the time which a legitimate player wouldn't consistently be able to focus on
- Constant sub-100ms reflexes (really hard to tell because of how lag compensation works in spectating. be wary of isolated instances because real people can have special prediction.)

obviously anything that can identify a hack w/ visual testing is iffy, and different things are worse or better at telling and depending on the person doing the test different methods can be essentially subjective.

When someone is using a naive/simple aimbot though it's just fucking blatant.

Thanks for the reply, but most of that stuff I have deduced from playing the game, but that's a really good summary.

I'm more curious about things that (however small and difficult to see) are visible, physically inherent of hacks. I think there are things that you can see when someone is trigger botting, like small twitches in the viewmodel/crosshair, but that's mostly anecdotal. But you know what I mean right?

Or, is the line between intelligent/sophisticated hacks and cheap blatant ones very thin? For instance, if someone is using a very sophisticated hack, is it nearly impossible to discern that they are truly hacking? I'm pretty sure it's very difficult to discern hacks while in spectate, and a POV is much more reliable, right?

Let's use the demo from #3 as an example. I watched it, and I'd be lying if I said I can tell he's hacking.

Funny thing, I was actually on a arena server today with this guy and I managed to snag a few demos of him doing insane shots and having basically consistent headshots with both ambassador and sniper rifle. Here are some demos for anyone interested, the names of the demos basically describe the demo as a whole. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7002247/The%20Peppers%20Pentalogy.rar
