I woke up yesterday at 8:30 AM. At 10 AM I took my last final (aced it), and celebrated by eating a hot dog. I then packed up a few days worth of clothes and my laptop and drove back home to Illinois for the weekend, roughly a 75 minute trip. Once home, I got lunch with my Dad. Figured I was looking a little shaggy so I got a haircut as well. Then I went back home to relax for a bit before running some errands. Then this happened:

My car is the silver Volkswagen. Nobody got hurt. I am okay, as is the driver of the other vehicle. We were the only two people involved in the crash, there were no passengers in either car. I was attempting to turn left in an extremely dangerous intersection and got T-Boned by the white Ford SUV. He had time to slam on his brakes but was probably still doing 45-50 MPH at the time of impact. Both cars are totaled and will not drive again. I've had that car for almost four years and this is the first accident I've ever been in.
The impact was on my passenger side and completely caved it in. I sat in my car after at first after the impact because I wasn't sure if I was injured. An onlooker came up to my window to ask if I was okay, and I had him look at me and see if I looked injured. He said I looked okay and was not bleeding. Shortly after that, somebody started yelling "the car is on fire". I knew it wasn't mine because I could see my hood was not smoking, so it had to be the other car. I threw my car in park, turned it off, and got out of my car as quickly as possible. It was still running after the collision, somehow. After a few minutes police and fire fighters showed up and handled things. I was checked out by an EMT and given the all-clear to go home.
I'm getting ready to go to the junkyard right now to get a few of my possesions from the car. I'll get a few more pictures while I'm there.

You should try to salvage the driver's seat and make an office chair. I know Passats are pretty darn comfortable.

I remember thinking to myself did that really just happen to me. I was super paranoid driving through intersections right after my wreck, you just start thinking about everything that could go wrong.

I was in an accident that involved an SUV I was in rolling several times and me having to climb out of it upside down - oddly enough I don't remember anything just that I was already on the phone with 911 and was trying to explain where I was. I still absolutely hate being in SUVs.

Glad you're ok, but tell you're insurance agent anyway that you're experiencing some neck stiffness. You will be in a few hours, trust me. If you tell them now, it doesn't seem like you're making it up tomorrow when you can't move your head. That's the way it was, at least, with my insurance company. But then again, State Farm were complete buttheads when it came to my accident a few months ago. Make sure you're relentless in pursuing your cause cause the insurance company (no matter what their heart-wrenching commercials might say) don't give a damn about you.
And make sure you get a good good-bye with your car. Losing a car is hard, it because an extension of you. I miss my Celica...

Similar thing happened to me at a much slower intersection. Got t-boned. In my state, they assign blame for accidents (not all do, from what I'm told). Hard to be legally assigned blame when you're the cross on the T. What that meant for me is that my insurance rates didn't go up. Hopefully yours don't either.
