can I ask a little question about twitch?
I kinda stopped watching streams altogether during the pandemic because I had better things to do with my time. at the time when I left twitch it was a videogame streaming website
I went to the front page today to just check things out, see who's popular now and all that and there's just softcore porn everywhere?
whats going on? Ive been hearing about some shenanigans from others but is it really just a softcore camsite now for 15 year olds with budding porn addictions? like what the fuck is this? (if/when the stream ends she was just humping a pillow for god knows how long) how long has it been like this?
I swear just 10 years ago kaceytron was getting her ass banned just for having fat tits. now Im not the kinda guy to complain about cleavage but the shit I saw today is absurd. videogames?

I fail to see how this is any different intentionally to exposing a bunch of minors, and not just barely, to a bunch of explicit content

because you have to actively go out of your way to a stream that's marked as explicit? do you think the type of 14 year olds on twitch don't know porn exists

you don't think there's a marked difference between a teenager knowingly going to a porn site to look at porn and a teenager going to a videogame "SFW" streaming site and coming across porn and grown women goading them on? but you're right, that particular link I didnt get from the front page, it was under the 'chatting' section, which I clicked because I saw it had a huge amount of viewers in the section

The Just Chatting category quickly rose to the most popular category past every single gaming category because it was the most universally relatable, no matter what game was being played (spare tournaments like Worlds and The International). During the pandemic in particular, the overall use of Twitch rose extremely due to people being stuck inside their homes, bringing an influx of old and new users.

Over time people have realized that the punishments Twitch gives out are not only generally inconsistent in length, but normally don't scale off of number of previous bans/timeouts. Besides cherry picked stories of nudity examples somehow only receiving a 3 day ban, the general state of the Just Chatting category for some has been turned into:

1. Skirt the line as hard as possible
2. "Accidentally" get a temp ban for 3-7 days
3. Receive traction of their ban via Twitter/Reddit/word of mouth
4. Come back with increased viewership from the advertisement
5. Plug their higher source of revenue (like onlyfans, for example)

These types of channels receive even more traction due to countries that ban porn, but allow Twitch (Asian/Middle Eastern countries like South Korea, Turkey, ect).

whenever i watch any tf2 clip on my phone theres a carousel underneath titled "other popular clips on twitch" or something and its always just boobs and asses. also if i go to "browse categories" the category for "pools, hot tubs, and beaches" is sorted above overwatch, warzone, and apex. maybe my algorithm is different but all i do on twitch is watch my friends stream scrims and click on tf2 clips people send me

I got no issues with someone wanting to choke the chicken I just don't think twitch dot television is the place for it

Brimstonei'm surprised you stuck around to watch anything when clicking on any stream makes you wait through a 10 minute series of ads first

this was pretty annoying but a few google searches led me to this browser extension and it appears to work flawlessly (in my ~40 minutes of watchtime) on firefox

SWers have always advertised on twitch
It's always been easy to find streams advertising social media with NSFW links
Some are just really obvious now with confusion of new guidelines
Before this, you could just scroll any popular category and they'd be quite easy to spot by the thumbnails (or maybe I just have an easier time spotting it because I know a couple SWers)

You're looking at it from the wrong angle:
The twitch stream is just an ad for their paywalled NSFW content. Nothing more. They're not trying to stream softcore porn to you. They're not there to grow a twitch audience. They're trying to make ppl click through to the NSFW bio links. Once you look at it that way things kinda fall into place:

  • Dont have to pay Twitch/Google to show your ad if you are the ad
  • Circumvents people with adblock
  • Can advertise NSFW content on twitch indirectly

It's like spam email, or hot singles in your area ads but it's for OF/Fansly. The money from donations/subs offsets the effort for them to livestream, but the real money they already make elsewhere. Click through to any of these social medias and I guarantee you they're already going to be in the top percentages of NSFW sites before they even started twitch

TobThey're not trying to stream softcore porn to you.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. In order to get money and customers on their other websites, they dó have to try and stream softcore porn right? Otherwise it'd just be an ordinary stream and no one would be interested in the first place. Twitch may not be their end goal, but you can't deny that they're trying pretty damn hard to make it as porn-like as possible.

But in the end I don't even think it's their intentions that matter here, it's the outcome. The outcome is that young people get exposed to them very easily on a website that was primarily meant for game live streaming.

Yea, my bad. I meant it like "it's actually an ad and not porn for the sake of porn" but worded it badly
