How is Shohei only the third best on the Japanese pitching staff? USA-Japan grand final is gonna be nuts
I would love to watch the WBC but you just fucking can't without cable. I get by watching MLB games with an mlb.tv subscription and a vpn but there just is not an option to watch this shit without paying Xfinity another $40 a month plus the cable boxes. I could watch a pirate stream but then I have to deal with the broadcast cutting randomly and can't easily put the game up on my TV while I do other shit.
Even watching regular season games is a clusterfuck now. If I want to watch the Rockies lose 100 games this season (which I want to do because of mental illness) the experience is terrible. Because of blackouts I have to use a janky VPN setup that crashes the mlb.tv app on my Google TV constantly despite paying MLB $100 a season. Hell, next year even if I have cable I may not have access to my team's games because AT&T Sportsnet is folding and the broadcasting rights haven't been sorted out yet in my region. I just want to practice my masochism in peace man.
Fuck the MLB fuck Dick Monfort shout out Kyle Freeland thats my guy.

it's a shame pretty much the only major global baseball event outside the LLWS is nearly impossible to watch. you'd think they'd be trying to get everyone's eyes on it with baseball's declining popularity since even people who don't enjoy soccer get a kick out of the world cup for the international rivalry

Went to the 3 Blue Jays game in Anaheim, absolutely unreal series, and the finale was one of the best games I've ever watched
I think we lose today. I'm not feeling Taj Bradley
I apologize to Taj Bradley, lil dudey did great. I still have no faith in josh fleming

Has pitched some shutouts through 5-6 innings (6 against the DB recently) and has hit 54 homers... possibly more through the wildcard.
AL MVP is obviously big dumper (Cal) though, that guy has been feasting

i feel like cal raleigh should definitely not win AL mvp. hes batting around 250 which is significantly lower than league average. aaron judge is batting 80 points higher and only has 9 fewer hrs.
my team will now play october ball, and this is all that matters

You have to look at it a positional standpoint, he's playing catcher, one if not the hardest position in baseball. Your squatting for almost 2 hours, have to catch and FRAME 90-100 mph pitches that can break in either direction, oh yeah, you have to potentially block them so they don't go as a wild pitches.
but lets look it more in depth defensively and offensively:
1. Defensively, he's been amazing still at blocking
and catching wild pitches, and while his framing isn't as elite as last year, its been pretty decent still in getting strikeouts called. Not as elite as Patrick Bailey though... that guys been on a tear, just not offensively...
2. Offensively, yeah he's averaging .248, hes not hitting Buster Posey or Yadier Molina avg numbers, but hes HIT 60 homers in a single season, more than any catchers has done before in mlb history. In addition, driven 125 RBIs, 14 more than judge at the moment -- and you know how important runs are in game. Moreover, hes on track on beating Aaron judge's single season home run record also (if he can get three more homers), unless judge gets on a hot streak in October.
But, again, I'm not familar with how mlb choses its candidates; from online, its apparently its often decided by players fWAR? If its in that case, its probably Judge. Still, you can't deny Raleigh has made history this season, hope to see some post-season records broken by him.

raleighs season has been historic. the problem is if he wins MVP he will have the lowest avg by an MVP winner since Dizzy Dean in 1934, who was a pitcher. Literally no position player has won MVP with an average lower than raleighs, and even some pitchers have won mvp with a higher avg. in my opinion 248 is just shockingly low for a potential mvp, especially when there's someone batting 330 who has better numbers in every stat except for HR and RBI.
If Cal Raleigh hit 29 homers in a row without a single out his OPS would still be lower than Judge's.
