Interesting, I wasn't aware that you could use tf_english to 'pad' a font. Have you tried at all to figure out a way to get different buff/low health colors depending on team? You could do that with a team-dependent/colored refract below the font (toggled on or off in hud_animations) right? If so that would be even cooler.

Regardless I'm interested in playing around with this later. Which font editor did you use, and how long did it take, out of curiosity?

Normally you can't have the labeltext be dynamic with additional text. So no "your health is: %health%" or anything like that, you're stuck with "%health%". For some reason it does work fine if you do that in tf_english though. "Padding" is really just doing something like "-%health%-" that way to cover both ends of it.

Getting buffed health to be teamcolored, that'd be simple since the green is just an imagepanel anyway. Low health because of it also acting like a healthcross wouldn't really be possible (with the way I did it, technically 100% health is "damaged" in order to get things to work, so you never get a color change you just get a healthbar). If I went with just plain numbers though, it'd definitely be possible.

I used type light (I'm poor), though this was pretty simple and any font editor would've been fine. The whole thing was a few days just to sort things out and tweak and whatnot, but just getting the font working took minutes.

maybe your Nvidia Inspector is resetting the changes to default every time you apply something. it used to do that a lot with me, i just updated my nvidia drivers and it started working normally.

or maybe you're just doing it wrong, iduno..

check your transparency super sampling. it's not on AA_MODE_REPLAY_MODE_ALL, and it needs to be.

i also suggest that if you have further concerns about this, create a thread. this isn't the adequate place.

Blue color is also the color of a buff, and red color is color when you're hurt.
I'm kinda lost in most scoreboards that are in new huds (Too much text and unnecessary information) so I decided to "pick out" the most needed ones.

Little broeselhud font edit: http://i.imgur.com/WWmXuvU.jpg

NOTE: MINI RANT BELOW

Show Content
I would honestly completely restyle broeselhud, if it weren't for the fact that everything you can find on the internet about TF2 huds are either very vague, or are incomplete hud tutorial series where people promise to finish it off but then barely even get past explaining how to move your ammo.

I opened the .res file where the main menu is, and I had no clue what the hell that was. I searched google.com and this was the best I found: http://doodlesstuff.com/?tutorial=tf2hud&section=mainmenu.

seriously, us hudmaking virgins need better resources.
More importantly, how the f**k do people like omni and collycat create huds despite all the extremely vague resources???

Well Advanced hud manager is on the way and if you see rays tutorial on making a hud you'll get an idea on what a res file will look like and how to edit them , then use doodlesstuff to find what each res file edit and poof , you can get the hang of it with practice

Also i dont belive omni and collycat know EVERY res file and every line , tbh if you know what each variable like xpos , fgcolor , etc.. does and you practice editing huds every so often you'll get the hang of it. If alot of us know 649 pokemon names (sorry only played till Gev V) , and each ones type , and can state 1 or more moves each pokemon WILL learn , + knows the name of every region and each gyms layout (srry im a nerd) I think we dont need 5 scientists designing a fully complete hud making software

It's really just look at the files, fiddle with them, try to make something, look at other people's huds and how they did it, ask if you're still clueless, repeat. Everything omni and collycat are pretty ordinary broken down, they're just good at combining the basic elements into something crazy nice.

HUD editing is a lot of trial and error. Most files aren't named too far fetched compared to what they do in game. You also find that a lot of files that have the most issues are ones that are hard to edit because of their unwillingness to change, otherwise, HUD editing is almost too easy.

I've gotten to that point where I almost know every file in a HUD. I've worked on HUDs for an extensive amount of time so it's natural I'd have picked up the ability to remember what I'm editing. By going through every file and changing something, you end up learning what the file controls. Trial and error.

I find a lot of questions I get about HUD editing are about how something won't change in a file despite the values being changed. You gotta remember that you're not completely tied down to what valve gives you in a file. You can add almost anything to a file as long as it's not too specific. The most common is backgrounds. Just because valve have put a background into a file that doesn't edit very well doesn't mean you can't remove that background and add your own. Learn to break things on purpose and fix them in a different way.

In terms of learning things, I did start a YouTube HUD editing tutorial series recently, although I got a bit busy with other stuff, so I put them on hold. I'll try and do some real soon and cover some different topics if you'd like.

Sorry if this post is kind of a mess, wrote it on a small work break.
