TooruArie11 years since I took that photo of Dashner at i55 and it keeps getting used without attribution or royalties, I could have retired by now.
The creator of the video DM'd me out of the blue the day before it went live, asking why Nursey and sempar aren't banned on serveme. I didn't know who he was, but did notice he has a couple of banned alts and a whopping 3 year RGL ban for "Misleading administrative staff", so I didn't take him entirely seriously.
I explained that serveme's ban list is for cheaters we caught and people interfering with matches, and we let the leagues deal with all the other stuff. Ironically, that same policy is why the video creator still plays on na.serveme.tf despite his RGL ban.
Next thing I know I'm "harboring preds" and "too lazy to ban pedophiles" and threatens to put me in the video. So I don't think this person is acting in good faith.
My argument, is why don't you go out of your way to do the right thing? You ended up asking me to make my own pull request and I did, then you denied it and blocked me. I also don't use your pred ass servers, I rented one the other day to see if I was banned or not.

As Arie explained, serveme bans that aren’t related to cheating (being a nonce) are handled by the leagues, so instead of being a dickhead and trying label Arie as apart of the “ring” you believe controls RGL. Why don’t you reach out to RGL and ask them for their reasoning, as any good story time slop YouTuber does.
Or does this not suite your narrative, so far from what I’ve seen in your video and in this thread you seem to have your own personal issue with RGL which is probably the reason why you’re so quick to label serveme as “pred servers” and saying things like “minors shouldn’t be allowed near RGL”
This also probably explains the vague context you give viewers about each case, the way you present the video is extremely vague and makes it look like there is one giant pedophile ring within rgl that all relate to each other when this is factually untrue.
No one is here saying there’s nothing wrong with pedophiles or defending them as you seem to think.
When all you did was find every tftv thread on a pedo being banned and turn it into a video where you voice act the victims in each case before going “hey guys look I wear merch I’m one of the good guys” it’s hard to look at this like you’ve done it in good faith and not out of spite.

Interesting, tooru has just spent the last hour in zesty Jesus’ stream chat typing things like “it’s an rgl cover up” and “the admins are in on it” goes hand in hand with him showing banned pedos public rgl profiles having tos bans and presenting it as a cover up.
So this video is basically only being published out of spite because you are banned from rgl.
Really diminishes the message you try and put across by labelling everyone who criticises the way you try and present the information in the video as a “pred defender”.

why was habib on house arrest? do people on this forum have a gentlemans agreement to not discuss this at all?
If you go back and read threads about some of these people that were exposed for preying on underaged people in this community, those people were pushed away, publicly humiliated and banned from the scene.
Word generally travels around fast in a small community like this, and eventually it goes public. Once it does it gets dealt with, and the offender is no longer welcome within the community.
Perhaps the fact that our community has made those cases so public, is the reason that people seem to think that somehow the competitive tf2 community harbours more of these people than other communities, personally I don't think that is true at all. If anything I think this community does a good job at making sure that those people no longer have a place here, once they've been exposed with proof of their actions.
This video is pulling from what, 10 years of comp tf2 history? The idea that somehow our community is infested with pedophiles is laughable. Its a very tiny percentile, and the general attitude toward that kind of behaviour in this community is that it is incredibly frowned upon.
This video ignores all that, its clearly made by a clout chasing manchild who got themselves banned from the league and is pretending to have made this video with good intentions whilst anyone with half a brain can see right through his act.
It is not worth giving this much attention. Most of the people who watch this and form an opinion based on it, won't even have the attention span to dig through the cases themselves, and see how the community reacted and responded. Its the tiktok generations way of doing things, they aren't interested in seeing the whole picture, people just love hopping on hate trains.
Granted I can't say much about the rgl admining situation and their decisionmaking, perhaps some of that criticism is valid.

RoeGood to see the comp players trying to downplay this. I am so surprised the people who can't deal with Heavy being in the midfight would react this way for someone DARING to call out bad behavior and moderator ignorance.
you are posting on the forum where the bad behavior was called out and dealt with actually, in some cases to the very people who called out the behavior and/or dealt with it
the video you used to form your opinions on a community you havent spent 1 second in had nothing to do with the exposure or banning of these people

I'm less concerned with the people that were already banned and more-so about the fact the moderators seemingly obfuscate/hide the ban notes or delivered very weak punishment, and that people in this thread are acting like it's not a big deal.
AKariOr does this not suite your narrative, so far from what I’ve seen in your video and in this thread you seem to have your own personal issue with RGL which is probably the reason why you’re so quick to label serveme as “pred servers” and saying things like “minors shouldn’t be allowed near RGL”
This also probably explains the vague context you give viewers about each case, the way you present the video is extremely vague and makes it look like there is one giant pedophile ring within rgl that all relate to each other when this is factually untrue.

Here's the thing: I'm not personally familiar with Tooru or the comp scene in general (most I know are the goofy weapon bans) and they might have done their video in extremely bad faith to finance an oil rig, I do not know. However, it doesn't really change the core problem of your competitive leagues seemingly hiding the ban reasons or handing very weak suspensions towards heinous actions, which is what the video was trying to expose to the public, along with the potential for bad behavior in the community.
Personally, if I was a player in RGL/ETF2L I'd want this issue to be addressed, not trying to act in bad faith and attempting to discredit the video exposing this stuff because you don't like the person doing it/trying to defend the public image of the league you play for. (It's fine to give criticism, don't get me wrong, but some of these arguments show some of you haven't watched the video and are just hating it on principle)
Just saying, acting defensively and discrediting someone exposing pedos and alleged complicity from the moderators doesn't help your case much :P

The players do want this issue addressed, Tooru didn't include how several people have swamped RGL with messages for weeks at a time to change the way the system is ran. The community is getting defensive because they have tried to bring light to these issues, be outspoken about it, and bring about change for over a decade now and this video is implying the community is sitting idly letting things happen. The community really does not care about defending RGL's image, the community is one of their biggest critique and it is SO apparent to see if anyone took time out of their day to see what the community was up to.
It is discrediting the work of the community against the league. Nobody is disagreeing the core message of the video is wrong, what is the issue is the way it was communicated as it generalizes a community who is probably one of the most outspoken ones I have seen thus far. Many community members have taken up staff roles to try and bring change, but because it is not a bigger organized effort, it fails. There have been several discussions on how RGL staff needs to be completely changed if the League wants to head in a more positive direction, but hardly anybody is interested in figuring out how we can accomplish this.

I’ve watched the whole video, and as stated above I understand the message he is trying to push but everything he has presented isn’t completely true and he is being purposely vague about it to make it sound worse then it actually is by trying to frame rgl as one big pedophile ring when it isn’t. All of these cases are completely isolated from each other and well known within the comp scene with 90% of these being discussed on tftv and other forums/discords years before this video was published.
No one in this thread is attempting to discredit the victims or attempting to defend pedophila whatsoever.
You have the guy who made the video sitting in a well known slop youtubers chat who themselves is known for not being entirely true with the information they present saying things like “yea bro it’s a huge rgl cover up” and “serveme has never banned pedos” which is also entirely untrue.
I think if you’re going to make a video as sensitive as this with an issue as extreme as this being the main topic it’s important to present facts truthfully and not attempt to frame it as one giant pedophile ring that all of these cases are related too.
It’s very hard to take the tooru guy seriously when he has an intermission mid video to show he is banned from rgl but that’s not why he’s making the video only to be in zestys chat a day later pinning it all on rgl and serveme and labelling all those who fact check him as pred defenders.
The video also heavily implies the community within the competitive scene does not care about these issues and ignores them entirely which is also factually untrue, people within ozfortess, rgl and e2ftl have always been agaisnt this behaviour.

That is very possible - If it is true, then I think now would as good of a time as ever to take action and either organize a big community effort to change things with RGL, or boycott it and make a new league entirely if they won't change their ways. I do still think the video exposing the bad actors is a net positive overall, as it puts more eyes onto them and exposes the general public to the issue, especially where the moderation is concerned. (I personally didn't really feel like the video made the players out as sitting idly by, they just weren't really mentioned) I personally came here to voice my concerns, especially with some of the responses and the reaction to some supporting Tooru. I do sincerely hope for your sake that you can end up fixing this.

There have been several discussions on how RGL staff needs to be completely changed if the League wants to head in a more positive direction, but hardly anybody is interested in figuring out how we can accomplish this.[/quote]
I do sincerely hope for your sake that you can end up fixing this.
if tooru wanted to "raise awareness" maybe he shouldn't have done the youtube equivalent of shining a flashlight up at his own face while describing real sexual abuse stories. there are many ways he could have gone about making this video that would have not A: involved unfounded accusations against the community (ie. implying we haven't done our due diligence, that shit about exa) or B: disparaging the victims by treating them as actors in drama porn.

shart out a shockumentary style video with melodramatic anime style voice acting over real text exchanges from victims of sexual abuse and if anyone tells you maybe thats in poor taste you just get to call them a PEDOPHILE #method

By framing the entire community as a pedo-ring, yes it is implying the community is letting this go by for free. That's why there are multiple people accusing the comp community as a whole to be part of this pedo ring and any feedback is being taken as a "cover up for the league".
Both sides have good points, the same goal, but both sides have bad actors who are simply causing more friction between both communities (pubbers and comp players) by making baseless claims and incredibly disingenuous statements when at the end of the day we both just want horrible people out of our circles and still enjoy our dose of TF2. Why can't both co-exist? Why is the community being labeled as pedo defenders when we have outed these players, have shunned them, and want to make sure our efforts are recognized in a call-out video?

TooruI censored parts the video so it could reach as many people as possible and not get age restricted. Predictably, it’s already partially demonetized, tf2 already makes nothing off ads, so even if it gets an million views I’ll at most get laeound $500 for working on this full time for 3 weeks, I didn’t put a sponsor, and I tell people not to subscribe because I don’t want to make this kind of content.
Guy who complains that his video exploiting the actual harm and trauma of real children might only make him 500$

Do you think you have done anything that is in the right here? Watching some of the worst trauma of my life and many others in this community dragged out from the grave and sensationalized with tons of for tens of thousands to watch fucking sucks man. Tons of inaccuracies and just generally shitty in tone and message. If you had any respect for me or any of the other victims you would take this video down.

Obligatory disclaimer that I am former rgl staff, take that as you will, I assume it'd be brought up to debunk me if I don't so there. I feel compelled to bring this up as it seems this video is getting wider coverage within the community, as a result of what you (Tooru) are doing to the community.
The above being said: not to go into the finer details of the context behind the forums as I am no longer staff and don't wish to throw anyone under the bus based on faulty memory and with incomplete truth.
But I think as an aspiring content creator it may be beneficial to you to atleast attempt to engage with the community and staff that you wish to portray in a negative way for topics as severe as this. Rather than picking and choosing what parts of the narrative are and aren't important, after you've already began to make claims on the pedestal you've put yourself on as an arbiter of truth and justice. The ball was in your court on this one, and I find myself disappointed with what you did with it.
like frankly yes, there are more important things to be discussing here, but I have two tips for you to consider:
1. Don't include the unimportant things in the video if that's how you truly feel about the situation, it's kinda disrespectful if you go around making all these claims only to refuse to engage with the community on them. I think it's much more understandable from the position of an individual player with disagreements over what's been done by staff, but you are putting yourself in a position of responsibility here; and it is neglectful conduct to not live up to that obligation and atleast engage with the staff in this regard, if you wish to paint the community as a monolithic shield for pedos.
I would think you don't have the right to pick and choose what truths you do or don't shed upon the claims you're putting forth in the video if nothing else, not for a topic of this severity.
In the worst case, you just get proof of how corrupt the administration and human beings behind it are, and you can touch on that topic and the importance of it further in followup videos, shed more light on the community, but realizing this may require any level of care and passion towards the community you're trying to protect. This would actually be good for the community believe it or not, if you cared enough to establish truths and this truly ended up being the case, but I don't think we'll be seeing any research on the matter from you. I would appreciate being proven wrong on this, and the community would be better for it regardless of the outcome, if you even so much as tried to explore the possibilities here.
2. From a more cynical perspective, it does not conceal your intent very well if your immediate response to staff outreach is to redirect the conversation and be hostile. Again, understandable on an individual level as a player, but if it's not just pr speak from the staff/is an actual attempt at outreach and you're putting yourself in a position of authority, it helps to conceal intent if you'd atleast try to act the part, and this would atleast be a bit better for the community still. You are doing yourself few favors here to put it bluntly, and I think you've failed as a content creator in either case, not to mention as a human being.
It'd likely be best if the discussion remained more on the victims and the context at hand and it's possible that I feel the need to speak on this angle due to being former staff, but I do feel it's fair game to remark on the meaning behind this interaction and throw out an observation or two on a perspective I do not feel is covered at present regardless.
