i switched from bios to uefi when doing a fresh windows install a month ago and got a small bump in several of my render times as a result of resizeable bar and presumably some other newer stuff

if you're already on uefi & ur pc isn't full of bloat, it probs doesn't matter

sunderkeeninHaving an SSD for boot drive vs not having an SSD for boot drive is not really the hill to die on here imo and the problem isn't really SSD optimization vs HDD optimization on windows, but the utter lack of optimization and stability on Windows in general as a desktop operating system. It's just one more reason why you should have an SSD for a boot drive anyways.

Well, I do agree with that. I'm frustrated because I got this pc in 2018 and back then I made a stingy decision not to get one, but it's bizarre that in the end Windows optimization is worse than pretty much every work software and game I use. The HDD was fine up to a couple months ago when I started getting 100% disk usage for several minutes after booting and it turns out to be various Windows processes that are probably not very advisable to disable, or at least I'm not sure what is safe or not to do.

So, even if I made a bad decision back in 2018, it's still showing how bad Windows is performing.

The worst part about a new windows version is that we're stuck with whatever fun new data collection and bs background processes they jam in there. Windows 10 already uses ~5-6 GB of RAM idling, which is already ridiculous, I can only imagine what 11 will use. You can stay on older versions but you get fucked over by DirectX and stuff just losing support. I wish linux distros were more feasible without forfeiting the ability to play any new releases or any games that use third-party anti-cheat / anti-piracy.

Windows 7 was the best Windows version by-far. There have been some notable improvements to the OS, like I do prefer the newer settings menu to 7s, but a lot of what Microsoft has done I feel has been in the wrong direction.
