whymeoAll_Over_RSthe prospect of an angry anonymous internet mob of 'justice' ruining someones' and their family's/friends' lives =/= consequences for being a racist asshole.
If you really think someone's life is going to be ruined for being a racist prick in the United States you're living in a different world than I am.

This exact thing happened in Canada, but not for being a racist prick, but because of disagreements on twitter. The internet can totally fuck someone life right up the wall if you piss enough people off if any of your information gets out there. Especially in this day and age.

All_Over_RSwell for a start the implications of what the guy said aren't the same as if he were to do what he did offline in a public space, and also the internet is full of fuckheads that would do their best to ruin this guy's life over some bigoted stuff he said on reddit.

How are they not the same? If you said/presented very offensive things in say a city square many people would be very angry even violenty so about said things regardless if its a joke or not. I'm also sure some people in that city square would want to ruin his life in that scenario too if they found information he's put out publicly about himself.

All_Over_RSit's not really about them finding out his name, it's about what they're holding over his head by threatening to release his name.

You could interpret it that way or you could also say the guy is lucky that the offensive things he said in a public space wont be associated to him after someone found out about it and decided not to publish it.

All_Over_RSwhymeoIf you don't want to face consequences for being a racist asshole maybe don't be a racist asshole.
the prospect of an angry anonymous internet mob of 'justice' ruining someone's and their family's/friends' lives =/= consequences for being a racist asshole.

If he said these things in a public space in real life there would be angry mob of justice wanting to ruin his friends' and families' life too, not that it makes it right but that's a consequence of saying potentially offensive things in public spaces. It's perfectly fine for private persons/companies to be against someone's opinion as long as they don't infringe upon their rights. The only consequences free speech is protected from is consequences from the government.

I think people are just going to have to accept the internet is a public place now and if you post stuff on it you better be prepared for it to potentially come back to you, especially if put information about yourself online that is easily found in connection to your posts.

the doxing defense is bad because there are a multitude of laws & fcc rulings about how journalists can reveal people's names. largely, if you willingly talk with one (which this guy did) and confirm your identity (which this guy did) and do not come to an agreement to not reveal your name (which according to cnn he didn't, and they'd have the conversation recorded to prove it in court) the journalist is free to name/quote you pretty freely.

example: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2011/oct/22/press-complaints-commission

also stop saying it was "some bigotry", it was literally most of his profile, several hundreds if not thousands of comments, saying shit like calling for the mass extermination of the over a billion people who worship Islam or hoping the US nukes massive cities related to Islam or hoping that people keep killing blacks in our country. it wasn't some bigotry, it was all encompassing on his profile.

this album of his posts from earlier in the thread was just the greatest hits, he had far more

This dude claims to be an epic troll but backs down when asked to give a statement to the most watched news network in the US. What a pussy ass jabroni. Also his behavior is the online equivalent of having lawn signs that said "Lynch minorities, Race war now", he's honestly lucky antifa hasn't firebombed his house yet .

His opinion is not merely politically incorrect.
He has not been doxed.
Nobody advocated doxing him.
Nobody advocated ruining his career or education.

Everything you wrote is false and you should be very embarrassed for making such a bad post. Shameful shit.

ignoring the whole doxing thing because that's already been explained as wrong in this thread like ten times now

supporting the extermination of well over a billion people is a tiny little bit more than just political incorrect.

If you really think someone's life is going to be ruined for being a racist prick in the United States you're living in a different world than I am.

i mean if u ignore all the people who have lost jobs/job opportunities for being racist, or the kids who got kicked out of harvard for being racist/sexist then yeah ur completely correct.

On a more serious note however. I personally think the guy is a pos who deserves to be punished, however I do not think punishment is right or justified. The guy has his opinions, no matter how vile they may be, and he shouldn't have to deal with an angry mob following him around either on the internet or real life, and have to risk losing job opportunities (or education opportunities if hes young). This sense of vigilante justice ruins lives, and its unfair for anyone to go through it because of their opinions. I really don't like the idea of a big, rich, powerful, and influential media service bullying one person because they happen to have shitty opinions. It just shows how CNN doesn't care about anyone and only care about the money that a juicy story about Donald Trump's Twitter feed will net them.

One more thing: I personally think there would be a lot more outrage over this if Breitbart or Fox News did the same thing to a "crazy SJW" or whatever.

Dude wtf are you on about? Distributing the truth has zero to do with vigilante justice. If CNN had given out all the publicly available information of the person, which they haven't, it wouldn't have in any way made them responsible for what any crazy motherfuckers do with that information . It's news, it's their job. Everything you post online about yourself is something you consciously agreed to share with potentially the entire world. Increasing the number of people aware of your public statements is okay for anyone to do without even giving a reason. Feel free to share this post with everyone who'd like to read it, because if I didn't want people to read it, I wouldn't have posted. If someone decides to hire a hitman because they disagree with my post, it's not on you.

It sure sounds like it is when CNN threatens the kid with name exposure. They recognized that he was wary about his name getting out there and used it to bully him. Bullying people is wrong especially when it discourages people to stop posting their opinions.
