SpaceCadetStraight up idiotic viewpoint. This is almost like saying that running red lights and stop signs is perfectly fine as long as I don't get caught by the police or get in an accident.

I didn't know violating traffic laws and endangering lives were equivalent to aimbotting in pubs.
edit: in terms of harm caused

It is perfectly fine for all of us regular players to have different opinions on what level of cheating is acceptable. Some ppl like me wish for a return to 0 tolerance but others want game specific bans and offer the famous loophole "well he didn't cheat at LAN"

It has always been up to our league admins to set the standard when it comes to cheating/cheaters. In the old days, we had 0 tolerance and it did not matter if u got caught in a pub or a match. Maybe that is why I can't change my mind or feel differently about cheating and likely never will.

I don't get what people are up in arms about either. What difference does it make if someone straps on a cheat in another game to fuck around in a pub? Completely different to a competitive setting.

For real tho, if you ever copied someone's hw in school, you are a bad person too. You need to report yourself to the academic dishonesty board

I dont think it would make much of a difference if you used hacks or not vs pubbers, they will still get destroyed.

Not really a good comparison. The amusing fact is that, be it cheating or copying homework, you're ultimately playing yourself, so why even do it? It just seems like the only reasons are to cut corners, take shortcuts, or to have 'fun' (which would be a pretty loose interpretation) at the expense of other players.

SetsulThe ban has already been lifted, y'all need to chill the fuck out.

For clarification Setsul's referring to the ETF2L ban, not the VAC ban.

It displays a fundamental part of your character. If you're willing to cheat in a game, you can't be trusted to not cheat elsewhere. It's pretty much that simple.

That's typical bullshit. "Oh everyone else cheats so that normalizes my behaviour".

They don't. It doesn't. You're a dick if you cheat. End of story.

it's not that black and white, one decision doesn't define who you are.
surely you must've had one bad decision, one decision that hurt others - would you let others define you from that one experience?

Being a dick at one part of your life doesn't mean you have to be a dick for the rest of eternity. People change.

How does it display a fundamental part of your character ROFL? just because you cheat online for one day doesn't mean it defines your character. they aren't trying to go pro, they aren't trying to gain a reputation for being a good player, they aren't trying to ruin the experience for everyone else, they're messing around. Of course, I don't approve of cheating because it does ruin the experience for others but you can always report and move on.

Geelyou can't be trusted to not cheat elsewhere.

why are you acting like this game is so important compared to regular life? compared to other things, I'd rather cheat in a game because of the weak repercussions. Sure, your rep is down the drain but you can always start again in another game right? You aren't going to be persecuted, nobody you really care about will know.

I don't think this is how it works, ive cheated in a million offline games and never cheated on an online game (or for a more reallife comp neither do i Cheat in exams).
This is just the Problem with all General rules, they tend to not catch everything they should, and also catch things they shouldn't.
A VAC ban itself doesnt show that someone would ever Cheat in a competitive setting, and I think 'uh he cheated somewhere so he is likely to cheat in comp aswell' is questionable.
However youd have to check every single case to see if it actually has something to do with the league, so I still think the rule 'just dont cheat anywhere' / VAC ban = league ban is the best solution.

For the longest time my thoughts about cheaters has also been that they destroy pubbies fun by cheating in pubs which isnt cool, but I have to agree with #39 that probably everyone browsing tftv would destroy a pubbers fun without cheating, so im not really sure what to think about this anymore. Where is the difference between cheating offline and cheating online in pubs when your enemies would rage either way?

tldr
I don't think cheating somewhere defines your character and im not sure whats the difference between cheating offline and cheating in a pub.( for AC / ban purposes )

i definitely didnt say its ok to cheat and ruin pubs theres an inherent difference between 'im gonna make a bunch of 13 year olds on a jump server mad' and 'im gonna win cevo main because they have a shitty anticheat'

if the dudes at a point in his life where he isnt playing games anymore and wants to cheat one time just to see what its like in a pub before he quits games, can you really use that one lapse in judgement as an excuse to make a snap judgement about his character?

i get that integrity of the game means different things to different people, but come on, have a little humanity

mustardoverlordto be fair, a lot of it is about where the people cheated as well (csgo or even pubs as opposed to pugs/scrims/matches)

I wasn't saying that makes it alright, just saying that it's a counter to the idea that people excuse cheating when it's a high-level player, rather than because of this
