If I make a video on my channel today urging people to sign up new teams for ESEA Open, what exactly should I tell them? How much will it cost per team to play in the season, where do they sign up? Anything else I missed?

Tell them that the myth that low teams can't play in ESEA is not true. There is always low teams contending in Open just sometimes not enough which why people have begun to think that you have to be the best to play in ESEA. It's 6.95/month for premium per player and then a one time 7.95 fee to play in the league. Normally I just remind teams that that's pretty much the equivalent of a night out to the movies. People seem to think that money on the internet is more valuable than money in real life. I'm not sure why but that comparison seems to break down that wall. I also like to mention that by paying, the chances of teams dying is far lower since they are "locked in". Pug server, scrim servers, admin support every night, blah blah blah. Here's the link to sign up: http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=league&d=register. They've made it super easy and it literally holds your hand while taking you through each step. Normally whenever I make a post anywhere I mention that if they have any questions they can contact me: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197994150010. You can leave that in your comments. I'd also mention that sometimes the first season is tough but that only means that your team is improving. If I think of anything more, I'll post but for a video that seems good enough.

Cover those things, make sure you explain the difference between league and premium fees very well. Most importantly make it sound like they should want to pay to play. It is more challenging, higher skill, more commitment, but you and your team will improve much more quickly and have fun doing so.

KillingIt's 6.95/month for premium per player and then a one time 7.95 fee to play in the league.

If your team makes playoffs it works out to about 30 bucks per player over the course of the season. (8-9 week regular season plus a few weeks for playoffs) Intermediate league fees are more expensive, but I'm assuming Sal's audience will be looking to play in Open.

Registration deadline is seven days away and closing.

I like how you say "fun" and then give the tf2 meets dwarf fortress definition of fun first lol.

The costs are really intimidating at first, but especially for open it's not so bad. An entire season of IM was much less than a single night at a decent bar.

I hate to say it but I'm not sure this video is helping too much. I'm reading through the comments, and most of it is just ESEA and 6s bashing. A few people bashing on highlander are making the rest angry.

The 2 top comments for example

if this is the attitude a 6s player has i am glad i am playing highlanderThis. Sal, you might be better off suggesting players to the UGC 6v6 league since it's free.

Hopefully this gets at least a couple people to sign up who wouldn't have otherwise at least :)

it's a shame infinite nixed Marxist's plan to give freemium to the top 8 ugc 6s teams, I really think that would've helped bridge the communities and build trust amongst the newbies

UGC plays on wednesdays if you're not bad. (6's is on wednesday gaylander is on monday)

I am literally can't.

Sal, disable the comments or turn them on approval only. This is getting way out of control. I think looking at the comments will turn people off of comp TF2 completely. Yes, I mean HL too.

infinite hates ESEA and 6s, doesn't he? I'm honestly surprised that UGC 6s still exists with him around.

I don't think infinite realizes its prize money and top competition that drives the tf2 6s scene. If esea didn't exist for tf2, neither would ugc 6s.

I think we need to keep getting people to teamfortress.tv. This site is a lot better of a place for them to be on than reddit, ugc forums, SPUF, etc.

The damage is probably already done with the comments by now. Most of the folks who are/were going to see it already have. Should have disabled them after the first couple of argumentative ones.

Wasn't just nixed, by me, but the entire head UGC staff. The proposal had nothing to offer UGC. Your version of "bridging the gap" is UGC being subservient to ESEA and funneling our top teams away from UGC to a "free" season of ESEA. Don't forget to mention that after the first season all the players would need to pay league and premium fees. I'm sure that would make the invite circlejerk happy but had little to offer our league. Have you ever administrated a league mustard? You sure act like you are god's gift to the TF2 adminning world but I see very little experience to back that up.

I don't think infinite realizes its prize money and top competition that drives the tf2 6s scene. If esea didn't exist for tf2, neither would ugc 6s.

Are you serious? Were you around back in the day when CEVO-P died and everyone moved to ESEA because that's all that was left? People in ESEA have been playing the game for years, no wonder many of their players are highly skilled. One could argue that the prize money and LAN force teams to "cutt to the top" the merits of which have been debated in several places over the years and has shown to have a negative effect on the community. I think how much ESEA cares about TF2 has become evident in the last couple months, despite the courageous effort by a few admins and dedicated members of the community.

I am surprised you all keep trying to defend ESEA and use it as a catalyst to grow the stagnant 6s TF2 format, especially with all the drama going on lately. I would focus more on figuring out why all your 6s sponsors go bankrupt and pull out of TF2. Wasn't i46 supposed to show the world how awesome 6s is and bring in all these sponsors? Why don't people on teamfortress.tv organize their own 6s competition and LAN? The 6s community does most of the work anyways for ESEA, advertisement, casting, and of course funding a large portion of the players expenses.

Let's see how many - frags I can get this time.

And happy thanksgiving everyone!

Nevertheless, infinite, the survival of UGC as a league is based on the popularity of tf2 as a competitive game, therefore I think all the leagues should go hand in hand. What I'm saying is that even though that decision wouldn't have helped the UGC league in any way, it would've helped the tf2 comp community as a whole, long-term. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Agreed. Come up with a plan that is mutual beneficial to both leagues a la' "hand in hand" and we would be all for working together.

Yeah, email valve to ask for money to get the top 8 UGC teams in ESEA. Or hell, just ask them to finance a league and a LAN so that this scene can move away from ESEA.

I solve practical problems.
*Edit* sorry, it just hit me that i'm bumping a now-obsolete thread. Ima stop now.

#26 I feel like your anger is somewhat misdirected - you shouldn't spread around the hate when really, you're just angry at the hard line lpkane takes with how he runs his business. The amount of wiggle room the rest of us have is monumentally small when taking that into consideration.

EDIT: And before you say "so drop ESEA if it's so bad", I think we can both agree that they are a lot of things ESEA does quite well for 6s TF2, so that's a non-starter.

Random thought: what if ESEA opened a Highlander division?

Anger? LOL you think to much of me. How could one be angry on Thanksgiving?

Yeah, email valve to ask for money to get the top 8 UGC teams in ESEA. Or hell, just ask them to finance a league and a LAN so that this scene can move away from ESEA.

ESEA is a for-profit business, valve isn't going to send us money to send our teams to another league. And I am not going to sink so low as to email robin walker and beg for money to send our top teams away from our league. Sounds pretty ridiculous don't you think?

One thing I would love to see would be a collaboration between all the leagues to throw a huge online tournament for 6s and highlander. We could pool our resources to come up with great prizes, hype it up to the public TF2 community, and try to grow both formats together. It would be awesome and do so much more for the entire community than a 2 day LAN with 4 teams. Sadly though, I doubt ESEA would be on board but maybe I am wrong there.

Actually, when you look back at the death of CEVO-P and even TWL div 1, they died from lack of interest to play in the free leagues.
