Always terrifying. They actually made checking start in bantams, instead of peewees (not sure when but prob in the past few years). Makes sense, let's kids hit their growth spurts before getting open ice checked onto a stretcher.
I wish they did that for me. My first year of peewee I was 5'4" and like 95 pounds. First year bantam I was 6"1' and like 125 (not much better but at least I had height). I remember my first experience with getting hit during a game was right after a shift change, skates right down into our defensive corner for the puck and got cross checked in the back from like 3 feet off the boards, whipped my head into the boards. Kids at that age just don't know how to control their bodies and people get hurt
