ESEA's possible demise?

Mr_OwlI'll pay league fees for 10 new open players (this being their first season of esea). Id rather just pay for 1-2 players per team but it's p much first come first served. Add me on steam. I'm not playing this season but I do not want to see esea die.

Businesses don't run on donations, those are charities. ESEA should provide value to their customers, and if they can't do that. Too bad. They are all adults and it's a business and service like any other. They've had a monopoly(if not a large majority) of the TF2 scene for multiple seasons, and have done almost nothing with it. I would have liked to see some improvements over the years, but most of those have come in the form of community members taking matters into their own hands, and putting in their own time and effort.

I love the game as much as anyone else here but there are plenty of people who enjoy TF2 and they will play in whatever league is available and serves them the best. I'm happy to see another league of ESEA or CEVO (or maybe both). I just think it's wrong to donate to a for-profit company. Let shit companies with poor leadership and value die, and let new ones take it's place. It's not a bad thing. Nothing is going to happen to the hundreds of players and teams that enjoy this game.

i can pretty much guarantee you that losing tf2 will not be esea's demise

http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=league&d=standings&division_id=2261 (csgo open)
vs
http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=league&d=standings&division_id=2265 (tf2 open)

esea will be kept afloat by cs regardless of what the tf2 community does- esea was built on cs and will always be cs-focused; torbull was a professional cs player, for starters. that's why the sc2 and lol leagues were/are more or less a useless addition, and also why tf2 is not the focus of esea's admins.

and considering the number of new players who are coming in to play esea and paying premium subs and league fees, even if tf2 completely left and didn't even have a division, esea would probably not even suffer for a second

and let's not forget lpkane has admitted that esea loses money on tf2, so they won't try and stop the players from leaving i'm sure:

On Wednesday night, ESEA owner lpkane said in an ESEA discussion topic that the league will “most likely pull the plug on tf2 after this season, but regardless… try and finish out this season strong.” In response to other comments, he said, “comments exactly like that are why you won’t see tf2 on esea past this season,” later adding that he was “dropping a game that loses [him] money.” When asked for a definite “yes or no” on whether the league would continue running TF2 after the current season, he answered simply, “after this thread, signs point to no.”

source: http://www.vanillatf2.org/tag/esea/page/6/

mind you this is an older article but i'm willing to bet that it still rings true.

with 8 invite teams and and 40 open teams, it looks like about 8/40 did not complete the season

your point being? the tf2 community on esea is still a tiny fraction of the cs community on esea, even now that it's been consolidated to 1.6 and go. i'll say it again: i'm willing to bet the tf2 community is still a money pit for esea. they pay to keep servers online that you only use come match time. keeping servers that are rarely (if ever) used online is a waste of money- ask anyone who hosts them.

lmfao what the fuck

nobody said esea would lose anything from dropping tf2. We understand that.

Also you linked a discussion thread that took place at the end of season 6. SEASON FUCKING SIX

I'm sure glad that lpkane has just been on his last straw with the tf2 community for 9 seasons and almost 4 years lmfao

what point are you even trying to make with that post I don't even understand why you typed it.

I don't really understand why as a community we would risk losing a competitive scene on the off chance that CEVO could be a better league than ESEA. Since most people can't play 4 matches a week, most teams are forced to choose only one league to play in. While people make the argument that CEVO deserves a chance and could be better than ESEA, this is a season where ESEA is going to drop TF2 if they don't get enough support from our community. We are essentially definitively giving up a large league that sponsors our competitive scene for the possibility that a smaller league could be better, even though no evidence points to CEVO being any different than ESEA.

And once ESEA drops us, what makes anyone think that CEVO will still have the incentive to be the best league it can be for our small community? We will have no option other than them. We'd be in the same place we've been in with ESEA all this time except this time without a LAN.

They're not risking losing esea. They don't want to play in esea again ever. Their decision is a for better or for worse scenario and for lot of players they are risking absolutely nothing with the decision to play in Cevo. It may be a worse choice for the most competitive players... That is unfortunately the way it works out. It's a players personal decision where they want to spend their money and if they don't feel it's safe to play esea, who can really blame them? It would be completely different if potentially malicious software was not involved.

Esea needs to be held accountable for their actions. Boo hoo, they're the biggest tf2 comp scene and we might lose that. They stole money from people in a shady way, they need to be shut down.

Technically they created money, and they'll get fined a lot of cash if they do anything else shady.

Is it just me or are teams being dropped from Open?

Assuming there's no extension (and looking at the amount of teams paid up versus the amount of teams not in all divisions in all games, there will be one), ESEA-TF2 is probably dead.

So, either 3 days or 1 week and 3 days to get your teams together for ESEA. I'd prefer keeping ESEA-TF2 alive, as bad as it may be as of last season, over the game dying.

I really couldn't agree with this more

If you're sitting around WAITING to see if people will pay their fees before you decide if you'll pay or not.. that's not a great show of character by any means. Make your own decisions! If you've enjoyed playing in ESEA the past X numbers of seasons, and you're on a roster.. I mean, keep playing. Even with less teams, it's basically still the ESEA you've played in in the past, and it's still the same TF2 we've all played for 6 years.

I'm not on either "side" of this, but I'd hate to think that there are dozens of people waiting around to see if enough people will pay their fees before they decide what they're going to do. It'd be terrible for ESEA to die with 30 kids who could have played but just didn't want to pay until everyone else did.

They already promised to refund your league fees if it doesn't happen. If you want to play in ESEA, you're not gonna lose money even if it dies, but please, please pay if you want to play this season. By doing so you may encourage other players to pay and keep the league alive.
