#41 metal / hardcore / punk / heavy stuff thread in Music, Movies, TV
SpyromancerThis far in and no Florida death/ German thrash? ? ?

I did mention Human ;) My other favorite Florida DM album is the aforementioned Cynic's Focus... which is a bit unorthodox compared to the rest. Obituary and Morbid Angel are good too.

Kreator don't do much for me, though; most thrash/death hybrids are a bit too monotonous for my taste. I actually like Chaos AD slightly better than Arise...

Annnnd with this post my posts now make up more than 1/6 of the entire thread. I think I'm going to take a break.

Anyone like Converge? Is it only me or their material outside Jane Doe and Axe to Fall is kinda limp? I feel like Jane Doe was so fucking good because of Jake's pure emotional outburst over a recent breakup that none of their other albums can even compare... aside from Axe to Fall, which is when they brought in a shit ton of collaborators that brought fresh ideas to the table and it turned out awesome again (those last two songs have no right to be this amazing, holy shit). Anyone else feel this way?

On the subject of mathcore, anyone sad over Dillinger Escape Plan breaking up? I like their early albums, but I haven't followed them since Ire Works so I'm not nearly invested in the band to care that much.

Antaresyes. i'd rate antares over automaton though

I love all their albums starting with Antares (Slave Design was just... awkward, still good though), but Automaton I feel was their pinnacle in terms of songwriting, both lyrically and musically. I still can't get over the fact Drop and Ben aren't working together anymore...

RattlewrenchHere's another Russian metal-meme: Dave Mustaine fan (with English subs).

Also I remembered one great Czech band, Malignant Tumour - Crust'n'roll (and Grindcore in early days) 1991-present: youtube, bandcamp

That vid... Пиздеееееец...

That other vid... ditto. When it comes to Czech bands, I'm more of a !T.O.O.H! guy, myself. Pure schizophrenia distilled in a metal band; manic, colorful, tortured. This album is up there with the likes of Obscura and Human for me. (The vocalist/guitarist was actually diagnosed with schizophrenia, by the way, which killed the already dead band even more. RIP)

Antaresmechina

You link to Mechina, do you also know Sybreed? They have an album called Antares, I always wondered when I saw you post. Definitely one of my all-time favorite bands, a huge shame they broke up... especially after dropping their best album to date. RIP

Judging by your tastes, capnnofapn, you'd probably really like Deafheaven. They're pretty much a post-hardcore band that decided to try black metal. Not really my thing (I'm pretty slow to warm to all that hip blackgaze stuff), but they're pretty popular now. They have some good chord progressions, I'll give them that.

#21 New Neil Cicierega Album in Music, Movies, TV

Never knew the Brodyquest guy also did mashups, and actually good ones at that. Technically good at least; I'm not sure if I like the comedic aspect sometimes (oh look, it's an "All Star" sample... and another one...). Still enjoyed it overall. I hope people here are familiar with The Grey Album. This video is a piece of art.

MikeMatAnyone who likes this and hasn't listened to girl talk yet is doing themselves a disservice

Once my cubicle neighbor in the army discovered All Day and put it practically on repeat on their speakers. I fucking hated it, especially the intro Black Sabbath mashup. Never again.

#32 Highschool books in Off Topic

I only remember two: Antigone, which was alright, and The Visit, which I dreaded (in retrospect it wasn't that bad, I guess I just hate reading in Hebrew). Obviously a lot of Jewish authors on the side, nationalist and otherwise, because hey it's Israel. We also studied the Old Testament from a literary perspective (in a separate class obviously), which kinda counts. I actually liked that better than the literature class, but the literature there wasn't to my taste to begin with.

I kinda envy those of you that read 1984 and BNW in class, even though they're a bit cliche nowadays (DAE today is literally 1984????) - haven't read 1984 yet, but BNW is great and I'm sure 1984 is as well. Love me some dystopias.

#8 Rewind low view numbers in LAN Discussion

Personally I definitely didn't watch because of the timezone difference. I wouldn't doubt that for some Euros this is also the reason. If East Coast-ish Americans want to watch Insomnia, they wake up early or sneak a peek at work if they don't have the leisure. If I wanted to watch Rewind, I'd have to stay up until the next day's morning - the broadcast only started at 8PM for me. Theoretically I could've stayed up and nothing would've happened since I have no life, but most other people are sane and value their sleep cycle and ability to work. I assume for West Coasters and Australians Insomnia is just as bad in that regard.

#5 Gabe the Dog in Off Topic

Noooo :( I love Gabe... I think I read somewhere that he was pretty old, like 10-12 years, so time caught up with him. RIP

It's only fitting that the last Gabe video has him being a happy lil fluff ball and not demanding to be walked or fed for a change:
