So I have that Corsair k65 Rapidfire and its pretty filthy. Somewhere on the Internet I read that you could put it in the Dishwasher to clean it and if you let it dry long enough without putting it on again it will still work.
Can someone confirm this???
Im serious even if that sounds weird

Pull out the keycaps and clean the keyboard with some alcohol and cleaning wipes
Keycaps can be washed in warm water with shampoo if they’re dirty

I wouldn't do it.

I mean technically yes you can, but you would have to discharge all the electricity stored in the capacitors AND you would have to let is sit for long enough / drain out for long enough to become completely dry which given the design of a lot of keyboards is next to impossible or take over a month unless you disassemble it. Which if you were to do that you might as well do it the right way and just use rubbing alcohol pads/wipes and individually clean and wipe everything down.

If you want to know how to clean a mechanical keyboard and stop it from double tapping there are 6 steps:

1. Don't put it in the fucking dishwasher.

2. Pull off all keycaps and clean with warm soapy water. Maybe let them soak for a couple hours and scrub down depending on how dirty they are, and then leave to dry.

3. Use damp cotton ear cleaning buds with a bit of soapy water to scrub down the top of the keyboard and get a lot of the hairs / crumbs / dust off. Don't use too much water on the buds/wipes as you don't want water going into the keys. Don't use any alcohols on painted bits as it can remove the paint.

4. For the switches, you can use cleaning alcohol, also called isopropanol. A higher concentration will dry faster as it contains less water.. Common concentrations are 70%, 90%, 95% and 99%. I use 99% and it works great. (This one). Using a little syringe/pipette you just put a drop or two on top of each switch pushing up and down on the switch to ease the alcohol inside. It'll dissolve any crud stuck inside the switch. That crud is what causes double tapping. Do this cleaning outside, or with a face mask on since the fumes are really strong.

5. Reassemble keyboard after alcohol and keycaps have dried. You can tell if alcohol has dried off if your keyboard stops smelling of it.

6. For the love of god do not put it in a dishwasher.

I did all of these when cleaning my own keyboard and it works as though new. So if anyone was as nervous as me putting a bunch of chemicals into electronics know that someone has done it before.

For a membrane keyboard, mostly just wiping down the top is fine. Some keyboards can be soaked over night in a tub of water which is cool, but the usb input shouldn't really be getting wet ever, so keep it out of the fucking dishwasher.
