take the components out. transport them either on your person that way, safely packaged, our safely packaged in boxes.

my pc fucked up during s19 when work moved me from chicago back to LA (sorry meyy, smitty, klicka, ulty, and cheese steak JIMMY). P sure people told me i should have just taken my gpu out of the case and then put the case back in the original box with the styrofoam.

Buy those packing foam bag, take off your gpu and put the foam bags in the PC. They will expand and cover your whole interior. Also get insurance if you're scared. Better safe than sorry :)

Good luck!

take out gpu + heatsink (if its any bigger than the stock cooler)
take out hard drives
take out any other PCIE devices

pack tower into a hardshell suitcase, use some portion of your clothing to pad it; check it
heatsink + GPU + other stuff in carryon; you'll piss off the people at security but it should all be fine
large peripherals like a full size keyboard should go in with clothing (I usually check two bags when doing this)

ESD is a relevant concern when you unpack, make sure you ground the case before reinstalling stuff

I have taken my computer BOS-PIT 3 times now with zero problems doing this other than confusing the TSA with my DH-15.

CrimeSceneWhat if the clothing create statics

i was going to bring this up anyway but now that it's been discussed if youre gonna dismantle anything before shipping please buy a fuck ton of static bags and put each part individually in a static bag

losing a part to static is as bad as breaking it in shipping, happened to an old gtx 460 i had a while ago and i felt so stupid
