Simply, I was playing MGE and kept losing. I'd like to get some feedback what I was doing wrong and etc...
I don't think my aim is a big problem, but it's more of my movement.

So yeah, any good tips for Soldier movement?

Thanks! Yeah, I usually try to not do it, but when I start to focus on aiming, I start to AD without even noticing...

I'll make sure it will not happen next time.

Be a little more patient with your rockets. Sometimes it almost looks like you're panic firing and wasting ammo. This applies to basically every class, but so many people forget it, far too often.

Yeah, another bad habit of mine... I'll make sure it will not happen again.

Thanks guys! I'be been using your tips, and I slowly start to see an improvement.

That happens to me sometimes, if you switch away to fast you hear the rocket fire but it doesn't actually fire and your shotgun will fire or sometimes neither will fire

You say your aim isn't a big problem, but I'd say it's as least as much of a problem as your movement. There are multiple occasions in this clip where you miss 2 rockets in a row without the enemy even really moving. A lot of the times it looks like you are not actually trying to aim at all and just hit m1 as fast as possible. Try to be more patient with your rockets and wait for moments where your enemies movement is predictable for you.

But about your movement: I think your strafes are too small, you switch direction too often so your enemy basically only has to aim in the middle to get a lot of splash damage on you. Against shotguns this movement is Ok (still needs more variations), but against rockets the strafes need to be wider to avoid splash. Just wide enough to get out of splash radius but not too wide because that makes it easy to predict. Also try to use W and S a bit more. Way harder to predict than just A and D.

Yet another bad habit... will make sure it will not happen.

GoaskAlice what music do you have on in the background?

Nothing, I find music to be discracting.

GiaskAlice also i recommend using the stock rocket launcher not the original as you might get confused and think youre playing quake its happened to me before and i lost

I've no such problem, no worries...

RentQN-snip-

Alright, thanks! Any good ways to practice aiming?

Quest_yohe is saying just grind the game and ur aim will improve theres no trick to it u just gotta do it

I've been playing this game for 4000 hours, and I've been doing this "grinding" the whole that time.
And besides, I said I had no big problem with aiming, it was just little off that time due me not having played TF2 for few days...

Anyways, thanks for Rent for pointing out my impatience with rockets, will make sure I'll be more patient with them.

senddont jump on ammomod

i agree that you shouldn't, but it's common practice in europe to do that unlike america. you sort of have to surf in ammomod because the person you're against always will because they don't see anything wrong with it. also, if the players in europe didn't surf the rockets in ammomod, they would just l never leave the fence, so you'd end up shooting the wall instead of the player.

that kind of fence play seems to be exactly what this guy is trying to replicate, he probably goes into the centre of the map once or twice. people probably do this because they play some 'good player' who does this, see that it's annoying to deal with, and so they think it's the best way forward. what's different about 'try harding' in ammomod in regards to the other maps is that it actually requires you to hit harder rockets and have a better understanding of movement, which is completely unnecessary because at the same time of making the game painfully boring, you are also learning a skill that will help you in no way shape or form.

with a lot of these players, once you understand that they're just not going to leave the fence, you just shoot the fence and they eat 100 damage rockets every time. because they never leave the fence, despite the fact that it's flat ground i can sometimes get a similar score on them as scout, which is just a sign that your play style isn't working.

just play aggressively and properly, then you can work out how to avoid damage. most of the time on this map, while i it's true that movement is important, is about hitting the better rockets and juggling them. its similar to dodging on scout, you bait their rockets, your surfing is like a double jump etc.

I don't think my aim is a big problem, but it's more of my movement.

So yeah, any good tips for Soldier movement?

Just been looking at this video for 30 seconds and have to say something really feels off about the timing of the shots just by seeing where the shots land.
Either you were playing on a server with high ping or your lerp settings are bad. The amount of time it takes for your rockets to fire is uncomfortable, your shots always seem to lag behind somehow...

Weird, I remember having fine ping (50-60) and my interp should be good too...

Surfing rockets is acceptable to me, however, I like to change it up. Surf some rockets, don't with others. Think more about your movement. Leave the aiming for your muscle memory for a couple of matches where you just focus on your movement instead. Worked slighly for me.

damneasyWhy are people so butthurt about surfing rockets in ammomod? Why would you not do that, you do it ingame too like wtf lol

Its not about being "butthurt" at all friend. Just like ingame, there is good practice and bad practice. You don't play ammomod to surf rockets every single life unless you are simply playing to be an MGE lord. Ammomod has always been strictly about DM and tracking practice for soldier.

I can't count the number of soldiers I face in ammomod that have total garbage rocket aim. Instead they shoot 4 rockets as fast as possible and simply look to surf/shotgun to win the round. It is an idiotic strategy that honestly works against weak players so they end up feeling good about themselves and whatever ELO points they just farmed.

a few things for the OP,

I have to agree with poster #20. I would double check your settings and make sure everything is correct. Your rockets looked very delayed, almost like heavy lag or maybe the youtube video cause the delayed feeling. I would also check the ping for the server if you happen to remember where you played.

Reread what post #4 said and listen. Keep your jumping to an absolute minimum in ammomod because you are just baiting yourself every time you jump. Think about it, someone is strafing to the left and then they jump, I know almost exactly where they are going to land. So by jumping, you are assisting my aim. My rocket is either going to be a direct hit or it will barely miss and still do heavy damage. Jumping is a very bad tactic in ammomod and in most DM situations in general unless you have the intent to surf the rocket. IMO, ammomod is not for surfing practice so don't do it and work on aiming. You baited yourself many times in this video and gained almost nothing from jumping.

Watch your own video again but focus on your crosshair. Often times your rocket aim is wildly off and you are still shooting rockets in succession while your crosshair is not even close to the target. Slow down the video and watch it happen. I find this odd because you clearly have very good crosshair tracking with your shotgun. It looks like a simple case of your eyes being focused on the target but you are not focusing your eyes on your crosshair as well.

I know you asked for "movement tips" but that is not the issue IMO. No offense meant but I don't think your rocket aim is as solid as you believe. There is really no excuse to consistently miss 2/3 out of 4 rockets in ammomod and that was happening fairly often. My advice is to focus on improving your rocket aim at this point. Your goal should be to forget about the score but make every rocket hit your opponent. That means slowing down your rockets until you can guarantee a hit. Stop trying to use prediction rockets and simply aim right at your opponent. Even a partial hit is better than a complete miss because of incorrect prediction. Aim your rockets slowly to almost guarantee some sort of hit every time you spawn and over time you will begin to see rapid improvement.

This is even more weird for me, since I don't see any problem in-game. Might be demo file's fault, not sure...

That's what you get when playing Medic most of your time and seeing rocket coming at you, heh. I'll make sure it's on minimum when I play as Soldier.

Bad habit of panicking. I usually try to keep same pace as my opponent, but it usually turns into "Rush my rockets!!" in my head. I'll make sure it will never happen again.

Yeah my ego might have striked badly this time. I thought I was decent at it, but I guess I'm not.
Also, I forgot to mention other thing what's an issue; When I start to focus on thing or simply start doing something, I've a bad habit of "turning my brain off", simply meaning I start doing this without thinking about it. This happens often to me in different things, and it's very hard for me to get rid of. I'll still try my best.

Really big thanks to you, though. I've already used many tips what you guys have gave to me, and they've worked well!
