It's honestly a pretty bland game. 80% of the current hype isn't the next season or changes, it's that fucking spy hero and none of that hype is in the actual game. It's twitter stuff and what not.

Hell the gameplay isn't even canon, so it's weird that lore hypes people this much.

I think it's fairly obvious right now that overwatch is not a better game then tf2, but blizzard is a better company then valve.

Well at least they listen to their community, while we're still stuck with a shitty matchmaking system full of cheaters that forces settings on which I run the game on my shitty laptop at 30 fps at best.

Blizzard isn't just OW, they've managed to screw over Starcraft, WoW and Diablo and they're really working on screwing over Hearthstone.

Flicker Well at least they listen to their community,

you think blizzard listens to the community? theyve fucked over their fans in just about every single one of the games theyve released. except OW which is their current money pit.

if it wasnt a valve game you probably wouldnt have graphics configs in the first place. im not gonna defend matchmaking, its awful.

they hardware ban cheaters on a game that costs 60 bucks, meanwhile valve can't even regular ban cheaters on an f2p game and even if they do, it's as simple as making a new account in 5 minutes and resume cheating.

edit: that's also only one of many many reasons, I'm just too lazy to list them all.

Just to list a few.

  • A well made mm/comp mode
  • huge esport support
  • good marketing and advertising
  • amazing anti cheat
  • since we're talking about ow and tf2, I think wow, hs and starcraft are unrelevant to the debate. As far as overwatch goes, they do listen to both the casual and comp community without ruining one or the other which makes a good balance imo.
  • New classes/heroes. (I'm not saying this should be done with tf2, but it is exciting as an ow player knowing that the game getting more heroes.)

2 friends of mine who were actually really invested into OW quit and said theres a lot of balancing issues as of now so I don't think they listened to the community in that regard considering they are adding another hero to the game. The last one got released 1 month ago.

They are not listening, they are actively pandering to the casual part of the community because they noticed theres more money to be made there. Competitive isn't generating much interest whatsoever.
I honestly doubt the pro's want another hero in place of balancing changes.

SC2 is basically dead compared to how big it used to be.
WoW hasn't been good for many years and blizzard shut down the privately ran vanilla server.
HoTS was blizzard's attempt to buy into the MOBA market and was a complete disaster.
Hearthstone is a pay to win online card game. .
Diablo 3.
Overwatch is kind of fun but competitively it's extremely uninteresting to watch. (opinion)

Meanwhile, valve is running CSGO and DOTA 2 which are both top 3 esports in the entire world. i disagree with a lot of shit that valve does, but blizzard has fucked me over way harder as a fan of the old diablo, starcraft, and warcraft games.

i personally think that your friends and you are wrong. blizzard does a pretty good job of communicating to their community and definitely do it more than valve. also, after the next patch drops i think most characters will be in a pretty good spot balance wise. some mechanics are annoying to play against, but that doesn't mean they're op or underpowered. the only thing you could argue is that defensive heroes are underpowered but that's because most defensive characters require kills to come to you (hanzo, widow, torb, bastion, and even mei and junkrat to an extent) and the meta right now is hyper aggressive, which blizzard is trying to change by reducing lucio's speedboost. i really think blizzard knows what they're doing with the balancing, and even if they don't, that's why they test patches on the ptr. to get feedback. you don't have to like overwatch, which ik 99% of tftv doesnt, but that doesn't mean blizzard created a shit game.

netwrkjrklike i said, i disagree with a lot of shit valve does, especially with csgo. however, theyre usually SOMEWHAT quick to fix things that cause community outrage, and the mistakes arent franchise destroying like the ones that blizzard has made.

Oh, look. Yet another one of these debates.

The problem with that statement is the fact that they're just responding to outrage and not exactly suggestions for general improvements.

In TF2:

  • is the pomson still a stupid and broken weapon? Are there still weapons that blatantly stick out as unbalanced?
  • has the game gotten optimization like we had been promised?
  • why is the item drop system still giving me crates from tough break? why don't you just get a few weapons (similar to the end of an mvm mission) when you rank up in a casual or competitive gamemode?

yes, I get that there aren't a ton of people at valve working on TF2. That's a given, and the TF team has been doing so much better in communicating to the people as to what they're doing as opposed to before, but there is a LOT of ground that needs to be covered before large strides are made towards taking this game to a better place than where we are now. Obviously a large end goal for a lot of the people in the competitive community is to have our game eventually become an e-sport and have growth and not just rely on squeezing as much as possible out of our people once a year so that we can send just one or 2 teams overseas to compete on the fairest proving ground, a LAN setting.

I know that I'd love to have more events happen that involve more of our scene. I loved seeing the Australians come back for another I-series and think it'd be amazing to have more teams be present. Maybe RONIN would have been able to provide more excitement for i58, or if ego had remained a team to compete as well. But there's just so much that needs to be fixed at the moment that people shouldn't be arguing about "what makes overwatch shit from my perspective" because the 2 games aren't the same. It's not like we need matpat to tell us that newer = better (tbh he probably should never have made that video but what do I know) and still have a divided community that knows the ins and outs of the game almost better than anyone else. The best thing that we can do is be as helpful as possible to valve (like people haven't said that already) and provide lots of helpful feedback and suggestions. Now the hard part is having tftv be a more read source than r/tf2...
