I don't see anyone doing this. In fact the only people I've ever seen do this are pubbers who are only just learning about competitive. I've never met a competitive player who says the game shouldn't be played like 'x', or said (seriously) "i don't understand how y could be found fun by anyone". But I've seen plenty of pub player comments saying that people shouldn't find competitive fun cause it's a "silly fun game"

I think the ladder grind is the replacement really. Their judgement must be that players motivated by MvM type rewards aren't the type to play a lot of competitive games, and they'd have the data to make that call.
