What was your first experience in competitive TF2?

Title

My first competitive experience was in the valve matchmaking system itself (not really much to say) with the usual valve server silence that goes on leading to a lack of communication, but it still felt pretty cool to help work as a team when the teams are actually balanced in Valve's system.

Though I'm guessing that most of you experienced it through the third party sites, and if so what was your first game(s) like? What site did you use?

And if you're wondering why I've been posting a lot, its because I eventually want to become a prominent member of the community ;)

what's so wrong about this thread? if this is how the community's gonna welcome all new players interested in comp then you can say bye bye to tf2 comp ever growing into a real esport.

ended up getting around 8 needle frags with a drop, and i dropped once and no ubers

drunk team thought it was hilarious

friend tried to get me to play competitive 6v6 in iron ugc like 3 years ago but nothing came of it, never even played. i remember trying to play on cp_croissant, almost forgot how much fun that map was :^)

first REAL experience was 2 years ago being a publord and filling in med for a server iron HL team that had their original med quit due to the release of the tide turner

The reddit league of still a thing, and I think the first game I ever played Mana taught me the Granary roamer rollout.

I grinded tf2lobby for a couple months. Was pretty addicting. Then I stopped playing the game for like a year, only pubs very rarely, then TF2Portugal started a national league and I got my first team there, eventually started playing Portuguese mixes with some really legend oldschool players like Haunter and Coinz of YoYoTech fame and the rest is history.

Got recruited for a steel 6s team as med because I went 19-20 with our demo in demo v med mge. He plays pocket on the same team as me and I never let him live it down.

I discovered it on 2010 by watching the meatshot movies and some tlr videos, then I started watching moments of glory and extv top10s, on 2011 I was already watching a bit of esea invite matches and then by late 2011 I played my first mix as a medic, it went well but my pc was so shit that I decided I should try comp again when I get a new one, then on january 2012 I got a new pc and started playing mixes/pugs as scout and soldier

I started playing tf2 in the summer of 2014 because my friends were obsessed with it. Right around this time they became intrigued by the idea of competitive tf2. So within a month of starting I had a friend ask me to play heavy on their new highlander team. I don't think we managed to get signed up until the winter season. It was kinda fun. We were all real life friends, and you can't really go wrong when it comes to gaming with friends. A lot of them don't play anymore, but I still play 6s & 4s with the core of that team.

Like 3(i think) years ago, I met some guy in MGE bball and he offered me a tryout for his iron HL team as soldier. The team died and I ended up playing pocket in 6s Steel as my first comp season.

A year ago I was offered a spot on some steel 6s team by one of my buddy jbird's friends. I started off as a sub and then their official scout didn't have time so I became a main. I did pretty shitty until the end of the season when I started to kinda come into my own just a tiny bit. Since then it's been nonstop constant grinding, and it will continue to be.

First ever experience? Well, I think it was a HL lobby.

I actually didn't do that bad.

I played a tf2center HL match on gravelpit (because I was familiar with the map from pubs) as medic. I got one uber and dropped 3 times.

Someone I met on a 2fort server named rushingrussian (who is still my boy despite him not playing much anymore) asked me to join his steel hl team and I played pyro

I used the reserve shooter and the attendant set when it was a thing

I'm so ashamed

ETF2L Highlander Open season 1

as a north american player with 200 ping and 300 hours in the game, our team got 3 forfeit wins, then we ACTUALLY had to play and got destroyed by every team.

The first time I tried getting into competitive TF2, the gunboats were banned and I thought that was dumb so I didn't get into competitive TF2.

Four or five years later I started playing on a competitive-oriented pub server very consistently, and after 250 games of matchmaking in the beta I knew I wanted to play 6s, so I formed an esea-open team.

edit: my first MM game in the first stress test was on everyone's favorite competitive TF2 map, ctf_doublecross.

Saw a guy in a pyub with the TF2Center Tag, looked it up, and played a game when it actually had not become cancer yet.
