KaeyelCan someone explain what made CoD4 so great in comparison to say... MW2 (Which is the CoD game I spent most of my time with)?

CoD4 is 6s, MW2 was pubs

CoD4 was very polished and had little chaff around the core game. It was basically as smooth and good as you were going to make an ADS shooter, and it just felt really good to play with. All of the guns felt fairly unique, and had their own niche. It had some balance problems but it never felt too severe and the game just felt really clean to play.

MW2 actually managed to keep the clean, smooth feel of CoD4, but basically took everything to 11. Tons of guns and tons of unlocks made it so every weapon had a way to cancel out its weaknesses, so all the guns ended up feeling the same across categories. The perks were insanely powerful and meant they became the core of your class build rather than something to accentuate it, and since there was only one or two perks per category that were worth a fuck, you saw very few builds outside of the meta. Killstreaks compounded on each other meaning games could be ended insanely quickly by even relatively average players, and the increased power of killstreaks meant that if anyone on your team fed for the first 30 seconds of a match you'd likely spend the next 9 minutes getting fucked hard by airstrikes or whatever. The maps were alright I guess? CoD maps always felt kind of bland to me personally. MW2 was insanely fun to play, but it worked so well because it was a spectacle of how cheesy and over the top CoD could be. The continuation of spectacles rather than working on core gameplay mechanics is why the games between MW2 and AW felt rather bland and didn't receive the same praise. Blop 3 was good and managed to really nail the over the top style MW2 started, but the games between them really just missed why CoD 4 was well regarded and why MW2 was fun imo. It seems like the devs have realized that simply throwing more shit at the wall and hoping it sticks clutters the game too much tho, so that's nice.

one fuckin nerd on my friendslist still manages to put at least 300 hours into each one tho so clearly some people like them

CoD4 came back in 2007 and everyone was pretty amazed by the photorealism
MW2 also introduced a more "hollywood-like" kind of gameplay with akimbo, tomahawks... wich i personally didnt like much, and removed any kind of browser or LAN mode
default cod4 online was actually kinda crap with enemies being total bullet sponges, but hardcore mode with reduced hud and more dmg was where its at, and promod was pretty cool too.

Wetwork, Bloc and the tiny maps like killhouse where the worst imo
the small ones are kinda fun as long as theres not much people in the server

cod4's strongest guns were submachine guns instead of stupid long range rifles so the best loadouts often involved just running around all game which lead to most fun gameplay of all time, plus the other weapons were balanced enough that they all could compete and weren't hugely worse than any others

there also wasn't a lot stupid equipment you could use outside of like a claymores and grenades, and with only three killstreaks that were not overly important or strong it focused a lot more heavily on actual gunplay instead of staying alive for extended periods of time

The game just had a lot less bullshit and all the interesting concepts like killstreaks weren't too powerful or important which made the game really fast paced.

I'm down around 1130 est if you still want to.

Avastcod4's strongest guns were submachine guns

The AK47 is definitely better than the smgs, save the 47u.

Was not the M16 stopping power 1-burst kill pretty strong? Then there was that whole Acog M40 stopping power that was a 1-hit kill no matter where it hit you.

P90 maybe in terms of a large magazine and possibly recoil, though the 47 has better range by far, and a quicker TTK if I remember correctly. As far as the MP5 goes, I never understood the praise for it. Would rather use the Skorpion.

The 74u is amazing though. M16 with RDS is the only way I can stand using it, but it does wreck. I don't believe attachments other than the silencer being allowed (might be forgetting one) in comp, so I'm biased in that regard. Same goes for m40 w/ an acog. Terrible attachment in practically every game.

so they are indeed making a remastered version of modern warfare

but you need to buy the new call of duty: infinite warfare (space lasers), they are not selling it as a standalone

https://support.activision.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-Remastered-FAQ

edit: oh and you need to buy a special edition of the game which costs $80 apparently

I'd pay $40 maybe $60 for cod4 remastered but there's no way I'm spending 80$ dollars for it. I hope they decide to sell it separately at some point.

It's a shame there's only going to be 10 maps for the remaster. I'd like to know why, but there's no reason as far as I know. As long as Crash, Strike, Vacant and Crossfire* are included, I'm fine. Wouldn't mind some Backlot* and Carentan though. I can only imagine why it's only included in special editions, but they should just release them separately. I'd gladly pay $40 for CoD4. Maybe IW will be a great game, maybe not. I don't care. They'd 100% make a lot more sales if CoD4 was separate, but that's on them I guess.

* - I think I read that these maps were already confirmed, but I don't remember.

backlot, crash, crossfire are confirmed so far. can imagine it'll be strike, vacant, district, then 4 pub maps (maybe a shiny new one to show off their graphics)

Thank god for Crash, Crossfire and Backlot. I read that Overgrown are Bog are also confirmed. Overgrown is meh, but fun enough for pubs. Bog is a fucking joke map and is incredibly easy for spawn trap collaterals or more. If not that, then odds are you're sitting at spawn with a sniper rifle, aiming only at the one or two available spots where you can see their spawn and be a piece of shit. The entire map just asks for people to play like assholes, unless you get lucky to flank, but that hardly lasts. I just want the comp maps in and I'll be happy, but inb4 they announce Broadcast as a confirmed map, despite it being dlc.

Anyone down to play some promod any time? I'm playing rn, but I dunno if anyone else would want to deal with 100 ping. I'm down to play at earlier times when I can, and hopefully NA servers are a thing then.
