My mid-air rocket jumping issue

Awhile back I noticed that something is wrong with rocket jumping so I asked around, but nobody had experienced anything different. I decided to let go of this thought and I simply continued on. However I recently dived into this again and, with the help of a friend, decided to figure out what's going on.

0:00-0:28 My attempts
0:31-1:17 dinosaurs200's attempts

In the video I'm cycling through 2 different jumps "starts" - one with pressing and holding spacebar in mid-air (how I used to rocket jump) and one with holding spacebar at the start of the jump.
Dino is just doing one type of "start"and that's the one I've done in the past but can't today.

We found out that the game doesn't detect my spacebar keypress in mid-air. If I have to swim around in water at high speed and not sink to the bottom, I have to release my crouch button, press and hold the spacebar and then hold my crouch button again. All of that has to be done in mid-air. On the other hand, Dino doesn't have to release any buttons. He only has to press and hold the spacebar in mid-air and he won't sink to the bottom as shown in the video.

So basically when rocket jumping, pressing and holding spacebar in mid-air doesn't work for me (it used to) but it does for Dino. Any suggestions on possible causes and fixes ?

Special thanks to dinosaurs200 for helping me.

have you tried rebinding jump to a different key? does holding two keys while on the ground prevent you from jumping? what about if one of them is crouch (try in a different game, csgo lets you jump while crouched)?

some keyboards cant send unlimited inputs at the same time, it's possible yours doesn't register spacebar presses if two keys are already held down, or one of them is crouch or whatever

I had an issue like that but it wasn't really midair. whenever i press crouch and don't let it go then try to jump it doesn't register, even if i'm walking on the ground. Try changing your keyboard input methods or something like that and see if makes any difference because for me I was stuck on Chinese input which caused it to fuck up.

Also try using another key as crouch like c or something to test if it's really your spacebar

fade-have you tried just making a crouchjump bind that does both at the same time?

I've never used a crouchjump bind.

neon_try a different keyboard

I did try another keyboard but that didn't help.

Gemmellnesshave you tried rebinding jump to a different key? does holding two keys while on the ground prevent you from jumping? what about if one of them is crouch (try in a different game, csgo lets you jump while crouched)?

I bound jump to mouse2 and attempted the jump like I used to and it worked. Now I'm wondering how this problem occurred because I've had this keyboard for a good chunk of time.

you have a really shitty keyboard more than likely you just can't press that many keys at the same time. http://www.gigahype.com/nkey-rollover-test-page/

you could try to use the test at the top of the page to see how many keys you can press simultaneously.

Most keyboards are 2 or 3 KRO (key roll over). Your's is probably a 2kro if you're having issues like that.

I bound and tested
V(jump) + ctrl(duck) and it worked
Spacebar(jump) + SHIFT(duck) and it worked
I can even do a half-way duck and jump I used to do.

I can press 6 letter keys at same time and Tab+Caps Lock+Shift+CTRL+Spacebar at the same time too. Oddly enough when I press CTRL and spacebar (in that order), spacebar is not registered but if I do it the other way around, both keys are registered. This is not the same with SHIFT though. With SHIFT both ways work the same. In the end though I guess I need a better keyboard.

try a keyboard tester and see if ctrl + space both registers at the same time

They do but only if I press them in this order. Spacebar ---> CTRL

yeah that's what happened to me. The only scenario I know this happens is with a weird input language.
