https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hide-tftv-posts/aahejfpacpgechinfbgindlnhofkohlb

I made this chrome extension where you can enter a list of tftv usernames to blacklist and it will hide all their posts on the forums for you

Before

http://i.imgur.com/wSIuzzB.png

Settings

http://i.imgur.com/XFoggDf.png

After

http://i.imgur.com/NnYfMq9.png

The script runs after the page is loaded so there may be a flash of unhidden content. I take no responsibility for any triggering you may experience from reading a post before is is hidden. Hiding quotes is currently not supported.

Code is here so you know I'm not hacking you https://github.com/DavidTheWin/hidetftvposts

not sure if this is possible but it'd be cool if you could make it as if the post was nuked
ie instead of just hiding the content of the post you don't see it at all (no +frags, no #, etc.)

It's definitely possible but I decided to do it this way so you don't lose the thread of conversation entirely

Lyreixmaybe but have you seen the next level idiotic shit that people post on this site?

are you really that fragile that words on a computer screen need to be filtered so you can stay in your echo chamber? when someone posts something you disagree with your first thought shouldn't be to silence them. that's called being a coward.

i just hope tftv doesn't brand itself as a "safe space" next

idk why youre acting like you have some sort of moral high ground on this issue youve created. youre just being condescending

some people just dont want to see worthless posts full of painfully bad arguments

fatswimdudeidk why youre acting like you have some sort of moral high ground on this issue youve created. youre just being condescending

shouldn't the ability to hear and understand other arguments be considered morally superior as opposed to censoring content just because you personally don't like it? and i've somehow "created" this? i might have posted things you don't agree with, but people having different opinions has and will always be a thing.

if someone says something with bad arguments, telling them that it's a bad argument and not explaining why does nothing of value. if your argument has weight, you should be able to defend it. explain to them why it's wrong instead of filtering them. censorship is a universally bad thing and in this case, it will lead to a horrible community.

smobomost people come here for entertainment and there's nothing less entertaining than reading what you post

sorry, i'll try to be more entertaining this time. here's a little script that i like. i call it, "smobo: he does it for free"

In a world where no one could grow facial hair, comes the heart warming story of a little boy with a big heart. Smobo Somehair was a small town boy, with a big city imagination, who just wanted to fit in.

"I just wanna be good to the world!"

/flash of pixie dust

One day he runs into a magic portal in his mother's basement that connects him to the entire world. Here he discovers he can communicate with just about anyone on the planet with a magical device called a computer!

"I will use this for good!"

/feel good Disney music

Follow Smobo on a wonderful adventure full of wacky twists, silly straws, and a whole load of references to internet memes.

This Spring

Disney Pixar presents!

Smobo, the giver of neckbeards

Directed by Smobo

sheepy_dogs_handno but its a bit childish. its like that kid who would cover his ears and shout lalalalala when you had an opinion he didn't like

I think it's more just making a point of not talking to people you know you can't have productive conversations with. You're not preventing anyone else from talking to them, you're not drowning them out, you're not making a point of telling people you're ignoring someone, you're just not engaging with someone who you think isn't worth talking to.

Yeah but you can just ignore their posts. I think it's childish that you would actually need a plugin because you get so upset at people having a different opinion than you. If you want to use the plugin go ahead but I feel like it's much better to just learn to ignore someones posts.

That's fair and I certainly have no grudges against anyone big enough to use it, but I can think of countless threads that have been derailed by two people who apparently hate each other just getting baited in to throwing insults (not differing opinions, insults). If you're the type of person who can't resist taking the bait, then this extension would prevent everyone else from having to read 3 pages of petty insults.

yes but just because somebody posted irrelevant shittalk in one thread doesn't necessarily mean that every one of their other posts aren't worth reading

For what it's worth I only made this as an experiment; I didn't expect anyone to actually use it for the reasons other people have outlined and according to the installation stats no one is.

-fish-shouldn't the ability to hear and understand other arguments be considered morally superior as opposed to censoring content just because you personally don't like it?

Censoring means making others unable to read the content. Not reading content you don't want to read is called horse sense.

and i've somehow "created" this? i might have posted things you don't agree with, but people having different opinions has and will always be a thing.

Just like ignoring opinions you consider moronic and a waste of screen space will always be a thing-

if someone says something with bad arguments, telling them that it's a bad argument and not explaining why does nothing of value.

which is a case in point for ignoring a shitpost rather than telling the poster it's shit and being dragged into an offtopic discussion about a shitpost that has nothing to do with the thread.

if your argument has weight, you should be able to defend it. explain to them why it's wrong instead of filtering them. censorship is a universally bad thing and in this case, it will lead to a horrible community.

You don't understand the concept of censorship and are getting mad over people saving themselves the time to read bad posts. By your logic, adblocking is censorship, because you should really write open letters to the advertising companies instead, full of reasonable arguments grounded in the most solid aristothelean logic explaining why you don't like their advertisements.

You are trying to restrict people in their freedom to filter content that takes away from their enjoyment of the forums and in the same breath call them out for supporting censorship.

Your logic is flawed and hypocritical.
