Just an update on what's going on - alpha seems to be stable enough with no major bugs, so we'll be moving into beta when we can. The main thing we're looking to do is finalize our setup so we don't have to worry about doing any transitions between beta and full release.

So far, we've secured enough game servers to start off in NA, but we're looking for some in EU so that we can roll out the service there as well. In addition, we need to solve our capacity issues with the central server, which we'll probably only be able to do by throwing a good amount of money at servers. To that end, some people have said they'd like to help out with those costs, so we'll set up some way to do so. If you have a preference or suggestion for a payment method or are interested in setting up a more formal sponsorship, make sure to let us know.

As always, feedback and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again for your support through the bumps in this alpha period!

Hey everyone, for those that were asking how they could help support PugChamp, we have set up a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/champgg. All donations are going to be used to help support the platform on a monthly basis. If you would like to help out each month, you can use our Patreon. We are in the process of getting ready to move to beta, and with that we need to beef up our servers. We also have a paypal set up, which you can donate to pugchamp@champ.gg if you would like it to go to us directly. Patreon won't be charging until March 1st, so if you would like to see us go live quicker, please use our paypal.

Ok it's been out for 2 weeks. Can we have some sort of captain requirement now? At least something small.

Since everything is being reset between alpha and beta, it's meaningless to impose anything on alpha and beta won't be able to have those restrictions immediately. We will add the functionality and ramp up the requirement over time, however.

Many apologies for the issues last night. We deployed a patch in order to reduce RCON connection floods that would eventually render the server completely unusable, but somehow it affected our server deployment process. Hopefully the patch we made last night has resolved that as well.

We've also added captain game requirements for testing in alpha, and we are working on figuring out a way to somehow configure the requirements during the beta systems reset so that there will be enough players to captain once it goes live.

for the captian requirements perhaps you can make it so if its a higher-level pug then the requirements are more strict, and then with a low level pug you can make the requirements smaller

idk its just an idea but in my head it sounds like it could work well

I can't think of a way that would be implemented automatically, unless its based off of elo but some top invite players have <1200 elo while some open players have >1900. It would 100% be up to administrative discretion at that point and admins aren't always online.

Just need a global captain requirement

Edit - unless the "invite only" pug system ends up happening

Perhaps add in some way to link ESEA accounts so that you can get a little icon on your profile if you are Open, IM or Invite. Seems sometimes this elo system means people who play more pugs but are like mid/high open get picked ahead of me :(

Someone could roster ride an invite roster but actually be open.

tscSo far, we've secured enough game servers to start off in NA, but we're looking for some in EU so that we can roll out the service there as well.

Have you spoken to Arie? On serveme.tf's FAQ is the following:

Q: I want to use serveme.tf in one of my own projects, is there an API?

A: Yep! You can read how to use it here. Contact me for an API key, or get premium and look in your settings.

The amount of servers in NA is comparatively low but if you're looking for a (potentially) free way of getting access to a heck of a lot more EU servers then this could be it. It depends on how popular you become but I should imagine that 1 or 2 servers could be free at any given time which may be enough for you to roll this out into EU.

Good luck with the project, it's looking good so far :)

At the moment the application is designed to rely on its own pool of servers with its own control process, so it's not exactly trivial to add another system like serveme to the mix. We will look into it, though.

We're also investigating the possibility of allowing servers to be marked temporarily unavailable, so that servers utilized for other purposes could still be donated.

As a low level player it would be awesome to see some kind of skill preference on these sites. I'm sick of waiting for late night lobbies where people take things "kind of serious". You have a lot of players waiting on your site sometimes and it would be nice to play some mid open people that aren't getting picked.

Hey all, we've been quiet lately working on several improvements - the main one being a nice website to represent the entire operation.

You'll notice on the website information about a Pro League, which we have decided to add after reading the survey responses and consulting with a few experts. Pro League services for NA and EU are already live in beta, with the EU one having already seen a few games played. We're also hoping to get the open system for NA up and running in beta sometime very soon.

We're also hard at work with various QoL improvements, like reducing memory usage so that our website isn't killed while under load and fixing players being marked inactive after a PUG draft expires. These have already gone live and we hope to have many more coming up soon.

As a reminder, we are entirely donation-supported - so if you'd like to help out with maintaining our massive infrastructure or perhaps providing incentives for our Pro League players, please visit our support page or contact us. Thanks again for all of your interest!

I'm currently getting a "you are disconnected from the server" every time I try to add up. This pops up every 10 seconds or so. Reloading the page does nothing either. I was just wondering if this is on my end or you guys are working on something.

Cheers.

We are indeed trying to figure out an issue where people are continually disconnecting and reconnecting to the server, and were restarting to try configuration and debugging changes. Sorry for the inconvenience. We're hopefully going to have the issue at least diagnosed by the time the evening rolls around.

We want to try to get this issue worked out before then, so we'll be delaying the Open system at least for now.

As for an announcement: we've made a change that might (or might not) fix the issue. The new change does require a client update, so if you're not able to connect to the website refresh the website and you should be good to go.

The problem is that the issue only manifests itself after a client has been connected to the server for a long time, so we have no way of testing except to leave the website open and see if it happens again. To that end, if you can log in, leave the website open, and see if you have problems (mainly frequent disconnects/reconnects), that would be helpful.

Again, many apologies as we try to isolate and hopefully work around this issue.

Hey

I am really enjoying PugChamp and feel its had a great start. I recently did a poll through my friendslist and got some resarch.

75% of people who awnsered the poll play pugs.
63% play PugChamp.
54% would like PugChamp to improve

This is just some quick research, and now I'm about to write more than I need to.

One. I may have message tsc about it. It comes down to what someone above said, of how the same people get picked over and over, while other higher, and lower players do not. I would say it has something to do with divisions. You do have a website that mentions opening a Pro League. Though people can come to this thread, and learn about it, or dig through pug champ, it is not well marketed. If I go to pugchamp, even if I am an active user, there is no indication about a Pro League, and its site. It needs to be mentioned on the front page, or notify the user when on the site.

Two. The site, and UI itself. I briefly chatted with Erynn on some bug issues, and provided some help. There is a lot of issues, mechanic wise. I would focus on it working first, over looks. Fixing the crash bugs, and getting a stable web server would be great.

Wasn't going to add a third but, just in short from this work on really making your site easy to use, and understand.

Site looks great

Thanks,
Dizec

I think separating the PugChamp community between a pro league and "open" league is a bad idea.

I love playing with and against players better than me.

of course there is an element of that, but a lot of players that are lower level end up never playing because they can't get picked, sucks when those players cant have full on practice games when they are trying to work on their game.
