Been somewhat populated after the recent update and is a blast to play.

reflex is getting way better with each update, probably the *best* quakelike once timers come off for good and they add ctf next month

in my opinion quake 3 cpma and defrag mods, and quakeworld.

im not sure how many of the cpm players switched over to reflex or how they are doing, its been awhile since I played.
if you want to play quake 3 vq3 (aka default physics no airstrafe) then just play the newer quakelive.

my favorite game is MoHAA (not exactly quakelike, but it is oldschool and it is quake engine!!).

If you're from england you might want to try playing cpma, there's a predominantly uk based group of people called bosstour who have a mumble and servers and play cpma, csgo and other games. I don't play with them much but they've always been really fun people whenever I have. Normally I wouldn't give much of a shoutout to communities like that but cpma is pretty dead without finding people to play with and they're one of the few groups of people that do frequently.

I don't know if it's old but I've had a blast playing 2v2 clan arena in quake live, you just need premium to make servers that randoms can't join.

quakeworld is best quake game, the community is basically just like 6 people in one server taking turns dueling tho

enemy territory actually has nations cups and shit still and it's a lot of fun (you nerds never pugged with me you know who you are.) dirty bomb is based off enemy territory but it's not as good

sadly arena shooters are pretty dead in general, you'll find at least some people in any of the games people listed but the ones with the most people/chance for growth are reflex, unreal tournament, and dirty bomb (if it even counts)

All i play is old fps games so

UT99 is still alive and very good, so is the new UT if your computer can run it

Daikatana despite being a shitty game has good deathmatch, and me and some friendos are working on patches. Its pretty fuckin rad with grappling hooks

Quake still has players and so does QWTF, theres a group on FB that regularly plays. The original tribes is still around and is a lot of fun (especially tribesmmo but thats different)

Soldier of Fortune is a lot of fun as well but thats less quake like, still a fun arena shooter with a small community

Timesplitters if you're fine with a super fun singleplayer/lan multiplayer FPS. There's been a fan made PC port in the making for a million years now, so that too whenever it's done.

Half Life 2 deathmatch is fun, although maybe because I keened Half Life and know the weapons really well.
