AvastWhy did ESEA stop evaluating rosters to see if they could be promoted to IM considering it would possibly make IM a much less volatile division and prevent sandbagging in some cases?

probably a cs decision

I'm pretty sure Killing made that decision. It was meant to deter teams from breaking up in IM due to how difficult it was to get there.

Wow someone took the time to go through each season. Detective John Milter on the case.

they only did that for the first season or 2 of im when it was a new thing because the division hadn't really been around long enough to have any sort of team pool

Do people think it wouldn't be a good idea for ESEA to look at the one or two rosters to promote in open that might happen every season due to teams being unable to get IM rosters?

Like wouldn't it make sense for certain rosters to be able to appeal for IM promotion if they're unable to find an IM roster?

Though I'm sure everyone's over it already, wow, what a clusterfuck of a "grand final". Sorry for anyone who chose to watch that (it was pretty frustrating participating in as well with all the random, uncontrollable issues). TechDude summed it up pretty well, but to elaborate on my part, my Internet somehow mysteriously fucked itself for the second map (which realistically wasn't going all too well in the first place due to eulOG's lag and me/us being bad).

It would make a lot of sense.

I'm sure there are other cases that one could mention, but the IM season that is coming to a close here (S19) had two teams that obviously were not actual teams somehow kept in IM and pretty much granted free wins to teams that simply stayed alive. Both teams literally had two or less players for a full week before the actual deadline for and organization of S19, and could have easily been replaced with two promotions from Open, but instead were simply left alone. The "teams" in question were Show Me the Monet and i love novice (ex-Mad Men), by the way.

Yeah idk considering the admins aren't too busy communicating client updates or anything it seems that they could perhaps promote or demote rosters after review....

I work as a baker from Wednesday through Sunday in the night time. It's at night so people can have warm pastries and awesome cakes first thing in the morning. =)

I think it's awesome that I was able to play for a lot of our matches, despite my schedule. It's heartbreaking when I have to leave in the middle of a game or scrim though. I really love the people on Clam Bake. While it's a bummer I have to leave them, I know they'll do better without me and kick ass, and I'm real proud of 'em.

Thanks to EVL TV for wonderfully casting such an... unfortunately wonky match.

invite players teams on open again. Why is this still allowed?

It's because of how ESEA's rules are designed to promote roster longevity, something which isn't really respected given how many teams die off and reform each offseason. It now takes four seasons before a team can be part of the Pro League in CS (with hijack rules to prevent most teams from skipping part of that process), and ESEA won't let up on that by doing placement tournaments (the closest thing is the two promotion/relegation matches for the Pro League, something new this year).

We are lucky that we don't have the rigid structure of Pro League and that teams can still be manually placed in Invite by an admin, mainly because we don't have the size necessary to make something like that happen, but lower divisions don't have that privilege and must follow ESEA rules.

It's not something that the TF2 admins can really be blamed for since it seems they're given a tight leash when it comes to running the league the ESEA way. (Remember when they almost got fired for turning a blind eye to Open finals being played off-client?)

who in open deserved the money? why didn't they win? what stopped them if they're so hardworking and dedicated? neither 6cuties or clam bake were that much better than most open teams

you're right lets force good players to pay 85 dollars each season while playing with people they might not want to play with just so a few open players can get their amazing esports check (in case you missed it, teams can't start in IM it's either invite or open). Spoiler: Clan bake isnt an invite level team

lol 6c couldve played invite and done pretty well with that roster. I honestly don't care if people sandbag; even when I was in open and IM, I didn't care much, but what you're saying is just illogical.

idk i mean its right in the title of the league "Open". i dunno what people expect, open means 'open to everyone'. If you're wanting to get good you will have to play really good teams eventually, not matter what division. And if you're soo far away from these stacked teams as far as skill goes, you'll likely have enough losses that you're only going to play other people with similar records.

i think theres a big difference between a team with invite players on it and a team that has previously played a full season of invite together. one of those two definitely have no business playin in open.

With minimal scrimming (and the roster they used for grand finals) they still could've beaten at least the last two teams before they died. I'm saying that roster because that's the roster that was supposedly "not clearly better than every open team" whether or not they scrimmed. However, their roster most of the time wouldn't have been able to compete in invite, so obviously they belonged in open.

Mason, that's why I said at least; upsets are possible.. and if that's the roster they had...which they wouldn't have had, there's no point of even mentioning this. It's also why them playing in open doesn't matter. Like shrugger said a while ago, it happens all the time in csgo and actually increases the competition and improvement at the top of the division.

with minimal scrimming my band of retards had no problem being competitive with your band of retards so by that logic 6c could have taken a map off of $5

Props to tri and mike for not going their mains and destroying even though that shouldn't be a compliment. If you're going to fuck around fuck around but if you're going to try hard and win just do it from the beginning. An invite offclass team > an invite offclass team that goes their mains first round of playoffs.

I hope the check is worth losing the community's respect.

Getting upset about teams like this playing in open is dumb. Even if they didn't put any time in this season they put a lot in long before. If a real open team deserves to win it, they will.
