PapaSmurf323CHERRYThe difference is that md5 cannot be reversed.
If Valve md5s your porn they simply have no way of unhashing it.

The point is esea is transferring the binaries to reverse engineer, not your porn. It is common do to this in antivirus as well.

I was merely pointing out that saying that Valve does the same is not very smart as transferring hashes is something different.

...ESEA Software to copy files from ESEA end-users' computer

People look at this quote and go boycott ESEA, but VAC has the same ability to send "Files" back to valve. VAC only sends hashes now, but nothing is stopping them from sending a whole executable. They could do it tmrw and you wouldn't know until you reverse engineered VAC.

VAC was decompiled once, wasn't it? Which is how we got to know about it reading all domains we access.

Boys (and a couple girls) this may be our chance with CS boycotting ESEA, now they can give all their love to TF2! Most CS players are probably pedophiles, rapists, and potential ISIS recruits (real life CS) so they have a lot to hide, but we are of clean moral conscience apart from the weeaboos who are in the minority. So let ESEA monitor us, but also give us better servers and service. Lpkane doesn't have to be our enemy he can be our greatest friend. VIVE LA ESEA.

CS can boycott the company if they want, they have other options. We do not.
A free league (a la UGC) has never given NA the same results for competition as ESEA. As mentioned before, CEVO is likely to not pick us up. While this client issue has evidently driven some people mad, Rick had the most sane post of any person in this thread.
If you're seriously concerned about backdoors and the like, unplug your router, turn off your computer and throw it out the window. There are plenty of ways into your PC that are also always running. We do not have a second league that we can rely on for high level competition, and ESEA has some serious legal bindings from their previous fiasco (none of tf2 was affected by it btw, absolutely none of us were.)

This is idiotic and untrue, first of all unless you install something to allow remote access and leave it unprotected and then port map it so the entire internet is able to get to it you're pretty unlikely to get hacked and backdoored. Even if you did it requires effort on the part of the attacker finding a way into your shit or luring you into a site and you letting your browser run whatever code. The difference is: with people running exploits on the internet, they generally aren't getting you to pay them for the privilege of running their code while laughing at the stockholm syndrome of their "users" as they make up bullshit to justify it to themselves.

So, where's your backup that we're all gonna get backdoor'd and hacked?
I'm not seeing that at all. You're simply reinforcing the fact that it's REALLY not gonna be a big deal. Puu.sh legitimately had a day 0 attack and not a damn motherfucker gives a shit anymore. You PAY for the anti-cheat and pug service of the program. You do not pay for somebody exploiting it. You PAY for the ability to play in a league that requires the subscription fee. You do not pay for the download.

Even if Valve could do it, they aren't, which makes all the difference between them and ESEA.
Your argument is essentially "You cannot be mad at ESEA because someone else can potentially do the same thing, thereby absolving ESEA from all guilt".

I trust Valve with my information leaps and bounds more than ESEA. Not to mention Valve has a clearly defined privacy policy and ESEA's makes me nervous

http://store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement/ good
http://play.esea.net/?s=content&d=privacy_policy bad

Reinstalling client between matches is going to be a hassle :/

Show me any case of ESEA sending back non-essential cheat related files since bitcoins. This "sending files" code has been in the client for years. The only thing that has changed is its running all the time.

There are reason to be mad at esea, but don't get mad because they are using legitimate tactics to catch cheaters.

You don't trust esea. Ok
dont be mad that anticheats are sending back cheat files.

honestly you have to be fucking retarded to hate/boycott esea now.

what the fuck are you doing in your bios and kernel and shit that somehow is just now an awful privacy violation? are you worried that kane is gonna steal your naked anime pics and bank passwords that are stored on your motherboard bios?

HOW many programs on your computer do you have installed that you havent compiled from source yourself and checked against the public MD5???? cause they all could, potentially, POTENTIALLY, go full blown stuxnet matrix on your ass and fuckin mix up all your files, 0 out your hard drive, and send your school homework over the net to a server in a abandoned stalin-era steel factory in the caucasus.

and if your job requires you to have confidential files, national security secrets, or HIPAA protected documents on your HOME COMPUTER, that you play tf2 and watch porn on, you work for someone who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing with regards to data security and your organization will probably go under by now because they can't afford to give their employees a company lenovo thinkpad.

PLEASE, by ALL MEANS, continue getting upset at every fresh lpkane post. i'm sure he is enjoying trolling the ever loving fuck out of the entirety of esea open and like half of IM.

everyone, EVERY SINGLE PERSON, who is "concerned about software privacy" had better be running tf2 on Arch linux with a framed, RMS signed poster print of a wildebeest on the wall in front of your PC.

Or else, you are fuckin dumb.

I'm sure Ipkane is just trolling IM and Open folks, and he's the only reason why high-level NA Competitive TF2 is alive and kicking. However, a decent level of professionalism is expected from a million dollar business like ESEA, and Kane saying "the only certainty in life is death" coupled with their history of being the exact opposite of an ethical business doesn't help at all.

Agreed ESEA is probably the most publicly unprofessional organization of significant size I've ever had to deal with - but all it warrants is the appropriate mockery.

Quitting/boycotting is your right, but all you're successfully doing is killing the game for everyone else.

Go spend your energy writing to your representatives about NSA spying or net neutrality or something that has an actual chance of affecting people's privacy/security. There's about a 100% greater chance they might care than lpkane anyway.

No, and I'm not necessarily defending them either. I'm just saying that we don't know what any company is actually doing with our data. ESEA could be using data they collect inappropriately. But so could Valve, EA, Microsoft, Amazon Google... Any company with the capability to collect data could use that data inappropriately. If you're going to get upset and boycott ESEA over this, then you should probably boycott numerous other companies.
