I've been procrastinating on school more and more and I want to try and avoid it if possible. Does anyone have tips in a way to avoid it? If it takes me prioritizing things differently then ill do it.

You have to just force yourself. There isn't really anyway around it.

If you are in college and procrastinating you are needlessly wasting money by not doing your work.

gargleburryI've been procrastinating on school more and more and I want to try and avoid it if possible. Does anyone have tips in a way to avoid it? If it takes me prioritizing things differently then ill do it.

I do the vast majority of my studying and homework at my school's library. I have much less trouble concentrating there than I do at home. I'd suggest scheduling an hour or two before, between, or after classes every weekday to hit up the library - treat it as an extra class.

This works for me, hopefully it can help!

Forcing yourself is one way of looking at it. In a way, Stoperr is right. Eventually you just have to fucking do it.

But thinking about how the human brain handles motivation and rewards can help out a lot too. For the brain, starting is easily the hardest part. There is mental inertia and resistance keeping you from just taking out the book and doing a few math problems. So start there. Do one math problem or read one section of biology or whatever you are studying. Write one line of an essay. It doesn't matter where you start, just START.

Do one thing, and then another, and then another. Add on and keep moving. You have changed your internal inertia away from sitting, browsing tf2tv and reddit. Do an hour of work, then take a break, but not a videogame or reddit or tf2tv break. Don't reward yourself with the same behaviours you procrastinated with. Reward yourself by making a healthy snack or cup of tea. Reward yourself by taking the dog for a quick walk or playing with the cat for a few minutes. Clear your head, don't get bogged down on something, get yourself some water and start again. Do that a few times and you will have worked for 2-3 hours, probably have your homework done, and can go on to do the behaviours that you originally were procrastinating with.

TF2, reddit etc can all be part of a mentally healthy lifestyle, we just let them encroach into the time they don't deserve. Limit it, things don't move so fast here you need to check it more than once or twice a day to keep fully up to date. Reddit has nothing really interesting to say. Netflix is fun but honestly should be kept to certain days (weekends) because not binge watching is hard.

If sitting down and doing your homework for one hour is hard, try 20 minutes. Commit yourself to 20 minutes right now, don't refresh this page, don't alt-tab to another page or game. Turn off your monitor, grab a cup of water, sit down away from your computer desk and do one subject for 20 minutes.

Easy right? Do it again tomorrow, but 30 minutes. Get back hold of your life and make meaningful and mindful choices about your behaviour. It will feel good to have done 20 minutes, it will feel good to do 30. The hard part is starting and there are no tricks. Good Luck.

if your in high school :

I get the majority of my homework done in studies/lunch/before school

during sports seasons theres a few days a week where I wouldn't have time otherwise so you just need to capitalize on the time that you have.
as for studying do that at home and just sit down and study for a half hour/hour. If I'm studying for 10 minutes then looking at some tftv thread or something I never seem to get the information as well as straight up studying.

Exercise, aerobically (running, cycling) before studying or doing any important work. There is proof that when such exercises are done, the hippocampus of the brain activatsand enables you to make rational decisions. Exercise before an exam and you will remember more. Generally, i exercise 20 mins (i like to cycle) and then sit down to study for 1 and a half hour. I could keep my concentration for an hour after the exercise. After that thoughts linger but you fight it out with your willpower. It is fine if it is only for an hour. Then take long breaks 20-30 mins. Do what you want but just ensure that you are not mentally exhausted and there are no lingering thoughts after the break. If neccessary spend some time running, cycling etc. i generally play tf2 during this time. Then when the time comes, just stop , you will definitely be able to do it since you barely used any willpower the first time. Eliminating distractions, is very helpful. I remove the internet connection sometimes just to maintain concentration. As mentioned above a library does that for you. Just note that friends can be very distracting for some people. if you are like that, try to be alone.
Understand that willpower is a very finite resource that is in fact replenished by exercise ( not the high intensity exercise used for fat loss) . I have also heard that if you are good, meditation drastically improves your willpower.
Tldr : exercise before studying. Eliminate distractions. Take long breaks. https://www.examtime.com/blog/study-hacks/
Hope i helped !

I just stopped listening to that lazy voice in my head and forced myself to do the opposite
I don't think this works for others but it worked for me

A thing that I do is make a chart for myself. I say what I want to accomplish within an hour, and try to complete it. If i don't I feel pretty guilty about it later.

if you have a lazy voice in your head you might have the gift of shamanism speak to your nearest spiritual leader and forget about work

I had the same problem before, and it wasn't that hard to get rid of it.
A) If you're lazy to do stuff when you are at home, go to library and do your homework there. It's easier to do since you won't be distracted by video games, people or everything else.
B) You just need to understand that if you're going to delay stuff you have to do, it's not going to go well for you. You will still have to do the same thing, but some time later on. Delays aren't good at any aspect of the life. Just move forward, don't let yourself have debts in subjects you're studying.
C) It's so primitive, but you have to understand that chilling on tftv forums when you have stuff to do won't help you in any way.
Peace up, good luck in your studying.

TBH just split your work into smaller pieces
makes it less intimidating.

Just do all your homework as soon as you realistically can after you get it. I'm lazy af but because I just do my homework first I still do fine, even if I procrastinate a bit. Just remind yourself that if you get it all done you'll be able to binge tf2/whatever for a few hours, and if you stay on top of everything you'll be able to do that regularly, with plenty of leeway in case you get given a ton of homework one week.

gargleburryI've been procrastinating on school more and more and I want to try and avoid it if possible. Does anyone have tips in a way to avoid it? If it takes me prioritizing things differently then ill do it.

Think a start would be not to make this thread.

When I was in College, I used to stay in the evenings to do work then go home as I knew at the college library I could at least focus on work as they block out most websites.
