Mortal Kombat has always been a shitty fighting game. It's always sold units because of the fatalities and nothing else. Even today pretty much every fighter has the same basic moves and a very limited number of special moves. It's always been a clunky game. Tekken and Street Fighter have always been far better.

is there something wrong with this or...?

i'm not a very competitive or serious guy when it comes to fighting games and neither are any of my friends and we all love MK because it's brutal, the more recent games have a great aesthetic (apparently some shots in this trailer are the actual gameplay), and the characters are fun.

i know you're just sharing your opinion and that's cool but it's not like there's anything wrong with MK being popular for reasons other than mechanics, and you're making it sounds like there is.

This.

Mortal Kombat has never really been about it's competitive side (at least not on a noticeable scale). More than anything it's just a fun fighting game to play, arguably more so (in some aspects) than Tekken/SF/MvC etc.

Either way, that trailer is one of the most entertaining I've seen for a while for a game.

I personally have always enjoyed MK over other fighting games like Tekken, SF and what give you. Partially it's because MK was the first I've ever played, but mostly because I've just always enjoyed how the games played out. It's the casual man's fighting game with characters I've always enjoyed, and I'm okay with that.

Having said that, King is still dabes out of any game.

Great CGI. Says nothing about the game though.

Mortal Kombat always felt the easiest to me, out of traditional fighting games. Street fighter seemed like it required so much timing and precision that it was really hard to get any fun out of it. Tekken i hear is good at a professional level, but at a low level all you can really hope for is that you hit enough buttons that you get a combo. Mortal Kombat felt the best in that you dont have to know the ins and outs of every character for it to start feeling like a fighting game.

I am very hyped. Hopefully the combat can be more fluid, like they are in the trailers, as more Mk games release.

That's SSB games in a nutshell, except SSBM was also good at a competitive level. I'd have to say SSB does a better job of this. MK has better visuals and the gory theme though.
