Do you mean gsync or lightboost? I thought this came out before gsync was announced...

Good monitor though, just beware of washed out colors (might need a calibration)

Colors are trash, even worse in lightboost mode. Colors change depending on refresh rate too :(
But low input lag and 0 motion blur (in lightboost hack-mode) makes it amazing for games.

I believe the monitor cost went up to $340 AUD to for (or thereabouts), and $110 shipping.

Arie(in lightboost hack-mode) makes it amazing for games.

I just tried this with my vg248qe and noticed a pretty noticeable drop in refresh rate(as expected) because it only enables the strobe mod in 120hz. Despite it looking much more smooth I think I'm going to go back to the generic 144hz default. I wish the mod was capable of running the strobe mod from 144hz -> 144hz(strobed). Not currently available as far as I know :(

It really is only a great benefit for people with monitors capped at 120hz. The mod definitely makes it respond like a CRT would on 120hz but idk I like 144hz refresh rate better.

Hopefully a 144hz to 144hz(strobed) comes out in the near future.

LinkuserWhat does a 144hz monitor even do?

It is capable of refreshing the image displayed on your monitor 144 times per second(or as many times as your graphics card/chip is capable of sending a new picture to your monitor), instead of a standard monitor which is capable of doing so 60 times per second. As you can imagine, this gives you a much smoother view and it therefore makes aiming more precise. Most people won't notice this smoothness when watching a film or something like that, but virtually all people will notice a very clear difference when playing FPS.

Most of these modern 120/144 Hertz monitors also have a feature called "strobing", which displays a new image sent by your graphics card at a higher luminosity(hence the word "strobe", from a strobe light as you get them in a club for example). This is to reduce what is called "motion blur", which is a problem of LCD monitors which CRT monitors never had. If the monitor doesn't get a new image by the time it is supposed to refresh the image, it will display the old image again, but at a lower luminosity. This basically makes the new image, when it comes, stand out more to your brain and therefore you will be able to react quicker to what is happening in games. The technologies for this differ from company to company and they all have their own brand names for their respective strobing technologies.

There is a lot of technical difference between these monitors, so it's good to read up on how they work before spending 300+ dollars on any of them. Some have better colours, some have better refresh rates, some have better anti-motion blur technology, etcetera.

I'll take 120Hz strobed over 144Hz standard any day. There's something magical about moving a window with text and still being able to read the contents perfectly well without any blur :)
Are you sure you're not running into any weird problems? To me the difference between 120Hz<->144Hz wasn't visible regarding refresh rate.

idk i guess i'm just used to 144hz as of now, but i agree the strobed 120hz is very smooth and the contrast was literally doubled. it looked amazing. playing on 120hz was just a bit jarring after being used to 144hz for a few months. waiting for that 144hz strobed mod. i wonder if its even possible(something tells me it's a hardware issue)

Thanks for pointing this out. Been wanting >60 hz for a while now and I just couldn't pass this up. It gets here tomorrow and I'm pretty excited.
