ESEA's possible demise?

QuindaliThis is an unfortunate truth. While there are some great teams in CEVO-M, there is a high probability that most of them will not take any of it seriously and we will see off-classing and troll strats like huntsman snipers to mid or 24/7 heavy. While it's true that the invite level players in cevo-m probably don't see much to strive for, I personally would hope that they (as seasoned veterans of the game) would at least have enough respect and sportsmanship to play their matches with dignity. Even if they themselves do not care, they may be facing other teams who.

Teams have ran 24/7 heavy on gullywash before, a euro team (sorry don't remember the name) played against mig and lost 4-3 yesterday and they would of lost 5-0 if not for how they played. I was taking that game seriously and you shutting down the server is not only disrespectful but also unsportsmanlike.

I personally am fine with those strategies, but I'm speaking for many players and teams who are not. While they are legitimate opportunities to be exploited in a match, it's not the standard 6s meta in NA and many people find it to be disrespectful. As for shutting down the server, that was mostly to cater to my teammates, not to myself and since it was a scrim at 11 o'clock on a sunday I don't think it's really the equivalent to a match. Pretty sure this is even on my stream, don't remember when my internet crapped out last night but pretty much quote, "some teams will actually play like this we might as well just finish the scrim". At the same time, I'm also not a dick leader and won't force my tired hungry and annoyed teammates to finish that if they don't want to.

If the top level players need the lower level players, why do you all continue to treat them like garbage? Or why do you ask them not to care when they are being treated like garbage by the league?

QuindaliMa3laaThe competition wouldn't be great no matter how many top teams are in cevo because no one cares about winning cevo. I see why cevo could be appealing for open and new players, but it offers nothing for the top competition of tf2, simple as that.

When it comes down to it, this is an "e-sport". If you're a high tier team or player, I would hope that you would conduct yourselves as such. Looking forward to our match vs. 180 tonight, gl to all other teams starting their week 1 matches.

if matches are not played with the vanilla 2 scout/soldier demo medic lineup you would consider that bad sportsmanship and disrespect? you believe that putting someone out of their comfort zone is a troll strat?

I'd like to point out that this kind of thinking is detrimental to those who want to improve. If something works, no matter how gay, it is a valid tactic that requires you to learn how to counter it. If someone is running 24/7 heavy and it's working it means your team is bad. PUGs are a different story because it isn't reasonable to expect 6 random people to have proper team cohesion all the time.

Don't overexaggerate claims. There are definitely attitudes and playstyles that can be clearly felt in game (or heard on stream afterwards) that show a team playing disrespectfully. Offclassing is of course a valid strategy and is part of the dynamicism that makes 6s so great. I was giving examples to extremes such as 24/7 heavy which generally denote a lack of respect for a match.

I'm the furthest thing from an "ESEA supporter" as most people know. I planned on playing in both leagues because I don't think killing ESEA is the right move. It's still our bread and butter. It will do more harm than good. CEVO isn't ready yet that's obvious. I think CEVO could become equal or better than ESEA in time but it's definitely not that time yet. The divisions are funky, the site isn't very functional, new stuff still needs to be implemented, and we already have all of it in ESEA. I'm not against CEVO at all I just think that letting ESEA disappear is going to be an extremely bad move for the community and create a big fallout of top level players. If you like that idea so that maybe one day you'll actually have a chance to win, then you'd probably choose to play in CEVO even when it isn't ready yet and just let ESEA die.

All this is, is taking one league and trying to make it exactly like another league without any real changes coming into play. WHAT IS THE POINT? AND IS IT WORTH THE RISK? Money is a dumb excuse, so is the heal stats, and the malware is gone. Let CEVO continue getting its stuff together as they just came back and when it's ready then the switch would be a lot more feasible and maybe more high level players will be bought in.

synchroGetawhaleI mean it's not the ONLY thing, but you can't deny that LAN and money are definitely things that encourage the top players of this game to dedicate their time to scrimming and practicing constantly and trying to win. There needs to be an incentive.Don't get me wrong, I think LANs are great, that's why I co-hosted a half dozen of them. And for it to be an incentive play? Absolutely, I think it's a good way to push players.

The problem I have is the concept of invite teams and players trying to hold the game hostage, and blaming lower level players for not catering to their whims. I think it's just downright disrespectful to expect the majority of the player base to bend to your will.

I semi-agree with this actually.. my wish would be for the lower-level players and top-level players to each realize how they benefit one another and mesh together better to each achieve their goals instead of working against one another.

blinKI'm not against CEVO at all I just think that letting ESEA disappear is going to be an extremely bad move for the community and create a big fallout of top level players.

You say this as if it's within one person's power to change the outcome. ESEA disappearance's proximate cause is the lack of open teams registering this season. But what are the ultimate causes? It's a combination of factors that have been a long time in the works and the most accurate place of blame if you're looking for it is ESEA themselves. If they gave open teams a reason to register, then the open teams would've registered. ESEA let itself die by its inaction and lack of initiative in improving its league or accomodating its players. No one "let" anything happen.

You're getting -frag'd because you're acting like a tool, not because there's some bandwagoning conspiracy. And if there were, 400 players is a rather large bandwagon, you should probably hop on.

As for your question, the answer is (edit) roughly yes. Quindali posted the total explanation below.

It's not like we're actively trying to sabotage invite. I would be happy to help support an invite LAN again, I just don't want it tied to ESEA.

For people still wondering about CEVO reg--

LangeTo clarify, we will accept new rosters until March 6th. We will accept new players until Week 7. A roster can "ready" at any point until Week 7 and be put into scheduling. CEVO will try to schedule make-up matches for any teams that "ready" late, but we can't always get every match made up.

Missed matches are not counted towards CPI, and make it difficult for a team to qualify for playoffs. It is not a viable strategy to attempt to register late to get an easy season and make playoffs.

i've been saying this for the longest time, FPS games aren't thriving like they were years ago....ESEA has done some completely retarded shit thats a no brainer but no other NA league has supported TF2 this consistently for 15 seasons thats a long ass time...all the way back to the complexity days.

of course everyone whos still wet behind the ears and new to this game is all #CEVOOOOOOO, support comes and goes with this league and when they had counter-strike it was arguably one of the most popular FPS games out, ESEA was going strong and they just called it quits with CEVO.

no lan = a lot more players quitting, people always talk about how great it would be to see guys like reptile to return and things like that, a lot of top players will up and quit without lan...they don't put in the time and get all hyped up to play finals online...LAN is what makes a some what shitty season turn to a great season once lan rolls around. this bandwagon shit is a joke but it comes as no surprise since the community is full of people that cant think for themselves

Well one thing people seem to not understand is that in any game, the people at the top don't play for the bottoms benefit, and the people at the bottom don't play for the tops benefit. So that argument people are using is terrible, because its not like we treat open players like shit, tell them to fuck off when they ask to sign weapons or do other shit. When I first started my goal was to be the best player I could that was recognized by many players in invite as being a good player. I'm just a competitive person in general growing up. like people can't use this equality excuse and say " oh the top doesn't care about me I don't care about them " well no shit i won't because what have you done that affected my feelings? Vice versa, goes both ways for open too. Compare the top to the bottom in any game, you'll see its the same in every other competitive game, and if you say otherwise you're very naive and stubborn with what you think.

rr-Plat its time to come out of retirement and play huntsman sniper pocket with ninja here at crossbows only.

I'm not allowed. That's disrespectful because players can't counter an "underpowered" weapon. Here at cevo we aim to respect and train the competition so we reach an equal online playing field for all players to have fun at the same skill level.
