I am needing help on learning how to effectively count the opposing medics uber. If you can offer help or links it will be greatly appreciated.

40 seconds from the time he spawns is the quickest possible time he can have uber
30 seconds for kritz
use in-game clock to do simple arithmetic

A lot of medics also just base it of the percentage they have when the enemy medic spawns, but I think timing it to the second is much more useful.

You might want to use the server time as that does not change when a point is captured.

whenever their med spawns or fades hit tab and look at the server time and add 20 to the seconds. they will have uber the next time there are that many seconds.

ex.
med spawns at 10:32
32+20=52
the med will have uber at 9:52 the soonest

for the 50's just replace 5 with 1
for the 40's just remove the 4

also kritz takes 32 seconds

Might be easier to just modify your hud a little so the main 30 minute timer is always in your sight rather then just go insane on your beloved 'tab' button.

afaik this is not possible (edit: I am incorrect: please see keeperton's post below mine)

you should be going insane on your scoreboard button anyways

Only Ozfortress allows wait, but NA/EU players could use external macro software to accomplish the same.

And you can get the scoreboard timer on the hud to help out, I don't know why more people don't have it really but it's an option.

I use a very simple method, whilst not perfect to the second is simple enough to work. I use my own charge rate to calculate it, so if I have 75% on mid and we know they're on Kritz, they have it. Or if you kill their medic and you live, you see how much uber charge you have, press tab and see when they respawn - that is your advantage. Or if you both die but you don't meet a teammate for 5 seconds, you know ubers charge at 2.5% per second at maximum rate, so potentially they could have a 10-13% ubercharge advantage. You can never account for enemy building it slowly, but you can anticipate if you built slowly, and put it into consideration. Timing doesn't have to be perfect, unless you aim to play off tiny, tiny advantages which tends to be risky.

I learn the spawn timings for every map (important for KOTH) - See when either medic dies, anticipate the change of medi-guns and take them into consideration. Of course I know some nerdier medics wrote a whole guide to counting uber - http://tf2.co.za/tutorials/mgeesea-comp-guide-an-introduction-to-the-medic/

i think there is a command that's timeleft or something that will output the current server time left or something in chat. you should use that right when their medic spawns/when their uber fades

Starting out counting uber to the second isn't that important because you'll never really be able to take advantage of what that information gives you the ability to do - at least with any real degree of reliability.

The simplest method is such:

1. If you die at any point and their medic does not they have advantage - assume defensive positions

2. If their medic dies at any point and you survive beyond that point in time, you have advantage get ready to push.

3. If both medics spawn at the same time roughly, you'll all have uber in 40-45 seconds, try to get kills if you hold mid or more than mid, or do not have the point in KOTH.

4. If somebody goes kritz they will potentially have advantage, if they spawn around the same time as you they'll have kritz when you're around 65/70ish percent.

It's obviously good to practice physically counting the uber, but it rarely proves to be all that useful unless you have a team capable of consistently pushing off of the smallest of advantages (rare) or pushing into advantages knowing the other team wont have uber yet (even rarer). Things to try in scrims on occasion. If you can get it down you'll have a great weapon, but generally that's out of reach to the vast majority of teams.

At the bare minimum, knowing who does or does not have advantage is the single most important piece of information you can have. Because ideally, your entire behavior as a team, should be predicated on that knowledge.

there is literally no reason to time it to the second and it's never going to be accurate because of varying build rates (overbuffing/grinding/spawning without anyone to heal)
