Which do you use?

I heard red is more geared towards gaming and blue more towards typing but I'm not sure.

I have 2 of the same keyboard and one is red and one is blue and I'm deciding which to sell.

blue but why would you base your decision off of what some guy on the forums says? Just keep whichever one you like more...

can't you just...try using both of them and then figure out which one you like more that way?

i like red for gaming and i just bought a blue because my other computer is 100% for work (i used to use brown switches for my work computer)
it feels more fun to type on clicky keys, and i know a lot of people that play with blue switches, but i like how instant it feels when i push on red switches (which is why it feels better for gaming imo)

I like the clicky feel. However I read somewhere that it is hard to spam keys with blue because of the tactile click, which would obviously slow down your apm if you play games like starcraft

alright so you've clearly done your homework what's the problem here lol

it's all preference in the end.

you could sell both of your keyboards and get brown switches. they're good middleground between the two

if it doesn't ghost it's golden, no sense paying an arm and a leg for any more has been my experience lol. I use blues, but they're pretty loud - if i lived in a dorm I'd be annoyed.

I used blues for a few months, they were pretty shit. I'm back on a membrane keyboard, cheaper and better than any mechanical

On topic, I have reds and love them for gaming and general internet browsing stuff, but when I have to type anything longer than a few sentences, my typing feels mushy. Whenever I'm doing work stuff at home I prefer to switch back to my old membrane keyboard. I'm sure I'd love blues or browns at work where I'm typing most of the day.

iirc there was some company that will send out sample switches to try. Maybe doesn't help that much to test with 1 key though lol

Mr_OwlI'm sure I'd love blues or browns at work where I'm typing most of the day.

Your coworkers would probably hate that though. Even browns are significantly louder than a rubber dome keyboard.

My students might, but they have to listen to me talk most of the time anyways, so I'm sure some clicking wouldn't be that bad o:

What do blacks feel like in relation to Reds/Browns/Blues?

Also does anyone have experience using those o-rings? Supposedly they dampen sound or something like that I'm not quite sure

Good tool to test out the different switch types:
http://www.amazon.com/Max-Keyboard-Keycap-Cherry-Sampler/dp/B00E71W4O8

Blacks are identical to reds except they require ~25% more pressure for the key to actuate so it would be good for someone who is more forceful with their keystrokes.

I've tried out o-rings on my friends keyboard with mx blues and it was much more quiet, they also reduce the distance for the key to bottom out when you press it down all the way so that could be good/bad.

some people say the o-rings make is feel mushy but they will definitely reduce noise by about 30-50%

my blue switches keyboard came in
i really like the feedback on these keys, but i can see how bad they would be if i was in the vicinity of two rooms of someone else

brown or red pls. personally i went with red because they felt better. it's all about preference but try it out at a local electronics store and see what you like. blue's are way too loud and can get annoying.

Before you go with browns highly consider testing out clears, they are not as mushy and soft as browns and feel just right.

I like tactile switches, I've tried reds and blacks but I couldn't get into them. The reds I could probably live with if I got some o rings for them but the black switches were just too much.
Browns are still my absolute favorite though, would like to try ergo clears at some point.

CMstorm also has a mx switch tester available here http://www.cmstore-usa.com/mechanical-key-switch-demo-board/
They're pretty inexpensive and also include mx greens and mx clears, they tend to sell out very quickly though.

Whether you like the feel of it is infinitely more important than whether it will reduce your APM by 2

keep the blues imo

(i use reds, but because i prefer the feel, not some sort of tactical advantage)

Yeah that's one thing.
It is basically enough to try out browns, and if you feel that they could be more direct, require more actuation force, more defined, then order a keyboard with clears.
That's how I did it at least.

Got reds with O rings and they are super quiet. I went for the max noise buffer, but the keyboard still feels great and is pretty quiet.
