I have a problem were, 1 moment I can be amazing, hitting every shot, then the next moment all my shots miss. I have almost 3000 hours in this game and it is getting to the point were I just dont want to play this game anymore. Anyone else have this problem if so, have you dealt with it and how?

too many factors honestly, the more the same you keep everyday the more the same your game will be everyday.

its not how long you play but how you spend the time. you can play 1 hour a day and as long as you play to improve and fix problems you have you will.

I love how 2 replies are "get into routine" and "take a break" so far.

Are you treating TF2 like a job? Do you play for 6 hours a day so you can be good, or for fun? Is your current regime of 6hrs causing you to stress over the inconsistency? If so you aren't helping yourself by continuing to play so much, in fact it's probably causing you more trouble than you realize. I've been there. Last season I was pretty much in a bad slump until the very end. My slump was caused by a few bad games, coupled with some IRL drama. I felt inconsistent, I wasn't having fun and the more I played the less fun I had.

This is pretty common. Don't stop playing TF2 all together, but maybe cut your play time in half for a while and play something else. Play something fun that's not going to make you stress out. 90% of the time this type of thing is all in your head.

It's good to know other people know what im talking about, and i play so much so i can get better, but i never seem to improve, if anything i get worse, but i think playing other games will help, I have fun with CS:GO and i dont get stressed out with that so ill give it a try. Thanks

Do you sleep regularly? Appropriate exercise and diet?

It might not be a TF2 thing.

I've had the same problem since I started playing tf2 competitively, and since then I've determined I'm either just too dumb to play consistent, or my emotions get in the way of my consistency

One of the keys is consistency.. quit messing with your setup/config/hud/shampoo and you will improve if you do indeed play to improve.

I have almost 8,000 hours and I'm terribly inconsistent. Always have been. This whole year I've been pretty awful. I constantly over-think when I play bad. "What am I doing wrong?", "When I was playing well, what was different?", "Why the fuck DO I STILL PLAY THIS GAME?", etc. I literally have no advice for you, I'm sorry. I'm still trying to figure out this problem for myself.

This has made pub stomping incredibly frustrating because now I don't always get called a hacker.

Maybe don't focus so much on just hitting shots.

Perhaps invest more time into understanding the game and positional awareness... so hitting 100% of your shots isn't of the utmost importance.

I think you can minimize the swings in your play if you really focus on the game.

edit: what #5 said

Some people are more consistent than others. A lot of it depends on how you learned how to aim, if you're really twitchy, etc. A lot of it also is because of your mood. If you start caring too much about the game and think its the only thing that matters, there's a lot of pressure and all your mistakes are amplified so you feel like you're doing worse than you really are and you play worse because of it (vicious cycle).

Also you have to be practicing correctly. If you practice bad habits, you'll pick up bad habits.

One thing that used to happen to me was i'd be doing poorly and then because of that I'd start getting down on myself kinda. I'd be 1:3 k/d ratio and i'd just start getting obsessed with making it even or higher than that, but I would be so wrapped up in the desire to be doing well that if I tried to recall how i'd even died those 3 times, I wouldn't remember. Try to kind of "record" i guess everything that's happening during the game, but dont analyze it just focus on remembering after the fact, like repeat to yourself during respawn "x happened and caused y which caused me dying/me getting 3 kills" and then stop focusing on it and just go onto the next life/push and eventually you'll probably start to see patterns like "hey i pushed when my team was fighting and got 3 kills, that's happened a few times" or "Wow I keep dying when I check for stickies without a buff", it can even become specific to teams/players like "I keep dying to these scouts whenever i'm alone, I should play tighter with my team" or "Their scouts aren't anywhere ever I should have an easy time flanking if I want too"

EDIT: i wont front i said used to happen to me, it still does at times lol

It is probably just in your head. As you start thinking like: "wow I missed that rocket, I must be inconsistent now" you will just end up playing worse than you normally would.

Tip: I always find myself playing better when I think that somebody is watching me thinking that I am good. I guess this is because I don't really focus that much if there is no need for it.
