i think there was a thread for this a while back but oh well. Is anyone in the tf.tv community a programmer and if so do you do it for a living or just a hobby? I myself am currently learning java and c++ as a hobby.

I'm a programer and I do it as a job and as a hobby. java is my favorite, but I sometimes cheat on him using python and php.

what I like the most about java is the error handling, no stupid segfaults and no garbage collection bullshit

I sometimes use C++ to do some number crunching for work at university, but I wouldn't call myself a programmer yet. It's all doubles, ints and for loops.

I sorta know HTML, CSS and javascript, I took a beginner's course in Python and I'm pretty competent with that. Also a bit of C++, haven't used it in a while though. All as a hobby.

For a living I've done Java (both server-side and Android apps), C++, Python, and Objective C (iPhone programming). On side-projects I've also dabbled in frontend, doing HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Definitely can't make a good living out of those yet.

(And yes, while Python will make you hate Java, hunting down memory leaks in C++ will make you respect it, but maybe not love it.)

Java/C/C++ on the one hand and PHP/JavaScript on the other. I've been working more on the right hand side (web dev-ish apps, proper web projects etc.) lately but I'm looking to get back into the left hand side.

Objective-C++ and C++ as a living (music production software).

C++ for games, Python and Django for various scripts + website, Java, Ruby (through Ruby on Rails), Scheme (LISP variant), a little bit of PHP, HTML + CSS + JS.

Did some Computer Science in high school, continued it in college (+ some electrical engineering), still haven't graduated, got a job before it.

Java and Python for me. I use Java when I want to do something robust, and Python for fun programs where I don't care how my code looks in the end. IMO Java is much nicer and catches my errors, but Python is much more intuitive.
