I just got back from seeing the midnight premiere of Man of Steel. Maybe it was just because I was sleep deprived, but I enjoyed the crap out of that movie. There's going to be a lot of praise towards Zach Snyder's fantastic direction (especially in the beginning) and the amazing sound track, but what really sold it for me was how satisfying it felt. Every punch and every explosion was planned out, not just tossed in there, and because of this, the fight scenes felt like they carried weight, which made this action movie stand out from others.

So, now I've had my two cents, what do you guys think?

Also, let's try to keep this thread spoiler free, or at least use the spoiler tag.

Movie was mediocre/bad IMO. Slow and boring first half, Micheal Bay loud noise explosions in the 2nd half, 1d characters and acting, flashbacks were dumb imo,

Show Content
lol @ being unable to turn eyes and kill the family, lol @ kent dad smiling as the random as fuck tornado comes, lol @ louis being safe because she was at the back of the plane even though fucking cars and i think non-kryptonian people are being sucked into the void thing, etc

. I don't mind the corniest so much, but it could have been a lot smoother with it (Superman should always have corny shit, but play it off at normal). I also hate the amount of time given to absolutely irrelevant characters (who the fuck cares about the Daily Planet staff).

Reminds me of TF2 (transformers 2) a bit, though not as bad.

They're in talks for a Man of Steel 2. I imagine the Daily Planet characters were setting it up.

I liked it, the action scenes felt more like what 2 Kryptonians battling it out should be like. That being said they tried to pack too much action in and didn't do enough plot development in my opinion. I'm going to just assume that's because a major criticism of prior superman movies was that there wasn't enough superhero-ing in them so they just over did it a bit.

As far as superhero movies go I liked it more than Iron Man 3 and less than The Dark Knight or The Avengers; but I'm a bit biased because I'm a bit of a superman nerd.

Most of the action scenes were fine, and probably the highlight of the film. But some were just drawn out for kinda long and for destroying things for the sake of CGI. Plot was the biggest problem, like you said.

I haven't seen Iron Man 2 or 3 so I don't know how good those were. My superhero and cosplaying sister like this movie, but the sister I watched this with found it kinda bad too.

Also, I forgot, but

why did they want Louis on the craft again? It never seemed like he actually planned to do shit to her, and she was just randomly thrown into the fucking room w/ the convenient terminal.

I thought the pacing was a little awkward but I really enjoyed it, if you've read any of the comics you'd see that they pretty much grasped what previous depictions of Superman haven't. Reeves is still #1, but I thought Cavill did a great job. Hopefully they expand on the characters for the sequel.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but to me superman has always been kind of a boring superhero. He's just too stronk and op. nerf superman and he'll be more interesting imo.

Superman is so boring and has been handled so poorly throughout the years that it has actually become impossible to make him interesting.

It's obvious that once you bring a movie into a forum discussion, it's only natural that everyone will take the less appealing parts of the movie and pick them apart, declaring it a bad movie. Most of the people I know have said the movie was "epic", "awesome", etc. Hopefully this movie does it's job and appeals to the general audience provides enough revenue for funding a justice league movie.

From what heard, it doesn't have the depth or intelligence like the Dark Knight, but not much things can these days. It was a movie a starring a superhero who's powers are so astronomical in comics that in every movie they have no choice but to nerf him, so its only natural that it's an explosion shitfest.

Yeah the pacing was a little weird imo. It seemed like there was more focus on action and little on the storyline.

I think people went into it expecting a movie like the Dark Knight, but what they got was a generic summer blockbuster, so they feel a bit disappointed.

I considered it to be a mediocre action film and a horrible super hero movie and portrayal of superman. To sum up my thoughts it didnt feel like i was watching superman but a guy who got the shit kicked out of him most of the time and pulled a win out of his ass at the last moment. As for the cinematography, there wasnt a single scene where some part of the action did not blow up some sort of building. And it just bugged me.

And going to call the movie horrible and mediocre is a tad bit much, I haven't even seen the movie, but I know that judgement is kinda overboard. It was obviously entertaining, but for the people who enter a movie theater expecting to see a bad movie will most likely only see a bad movie.

I wasn't going into the film expecting a bad movie. I was seriously hyped for it actually and by no means was i comparing it to something like The Dark Knight. I even went on the midnight premiere because i was excited to see a good portrayal of superman in film for once. And i was disappointed. This whole thread is a movie critique. This is my personal experience with the movie and people are going to have different opinions. If you cant accept that then i have news for you.

By no means was it a perfect film, it had it's issues. But Snyder took a risk with this movie by doing his own portrayal and it worked out just fine. Not as good as The Dark Knight, but better than The Avengers/Iron Man 3 IMO.

I haven't seen the movie and it's unlikely that I will because of the state of action movies in strong CG years. The whole idea of an good action movie is having plot and character development with some adrenaline scenes mixed in. Without having much of the first, a person is unlikely to care about the characters, which leads them not to really care about the fight scenes since there is no emotional connection.

I have been watching more old and oldish SCI-FI shows on netflix and amazon, since I never watched any until I was about 25, so maybe I am getting jaded as far as plot goes. I just feel like a few million spent on 2-3 seasons on a good show would have so much more connection to an audience than two hours of a movie costing 50 million to make.

Oh yeah, this is to get rid of reality TV

I've always loved Superman, but his movie portrayals were always pretty weak despite the strong cast.
Man of Steel was a great blockbuster, It's received really bad ratings though, the metacritic and rotten tomatoes gave it ~50% which is just retarded. Hans Zimmerman, Christopher Nolan and Zach Snyder did a great job as expected, and Russell Crowe did an amazing job as Jor-El.

Zods Lieutenant Faora was a fucking baddass, Imagine how badly Superman would've got raped if Zod and his soldiers had adjusted to earth as soon as they landed :o

Was a good movie, not the best but it wasn't bad.

Superman, in general, is too squeaky clean of a character to make interesting on his own. The interesting things about Superman are his backstory, enemies and supporting characters and the movie handled these things well. Superman is there for the action...so expect action in the movie

One of my biggest character gripes though is that Jor-El was too perfect

honestly when it comes to movies based on comics, its pretty hard to beat the dark knight IMO i'm not really one to always compare for a specific genre such as this but i feel like the dark knight really set the bar in this case...so when you think about it some movies such as this one are pretty lackluster in comparison.
