I'm looking for an affordable headset, nothing too expensive. In the range of $40 - $50? Maybe 60. Any ideas?

In that price range your options are really limited, at least as far as good headsets go. Plantronics makes decent stuff, you might be able to find something from them. If you wanna step up to the $70 range you can go with the razer carcharias, which despite the brand name, is actually a nice headset. If I were you tho, I'd just save up a little more and spend $100 on the audio technica ad700s, and a zalman clip on mic.

My headset is broken, and I'm waaayyyy too lazy to buy 2 things and put them together with tape. So any more headset recommendations is appreciated. I'm looking in about the same price range.

if you buy a plantronics headset be warned that it WILL break here:

without fail, every plantronics headset breaks there at least twice.

A couple months ago I bought the Plantronics Gamecom 780 with the Dota 2 promo from the Valve store for $88 shipped, then sold the Battlefury item that came with it for $68 PayPal. So got it for $20 in the end, and it has worked great.

Looks like it's sold out from the valve store, but you can also get it here.

we should honestly just sticky 1 hardware thread for everything, monitors, mice, headsets whatever. these threads pop up all the time, people need to stop being lazy and just use the search function

Stochast1cSuperlux HD 681 + Zalman Zm-Mic1 = ~$40

The Samson SR850 is also good too (they're actually very similar to the Superlux HD681)

don't get the Superlux HD 681 HD668B. they are ass, the wings will eventually weaken and the metal bars will be the only support on your head. it's uncomfortable, i would know.

I know it's not specifically what you were asking, but I just bought a Blue Snowball mic and use a pair of earbuds and that works wonders. Most headsets I find use either a poor microphone or poor headphones or both. This alleviates that issue nicely.
