YOUR ONE STOP GUIDE TO STEAMPIPE

Because I'm seeing like 9001 threads all asking the same questions about Steampipe, I was hoping someone would make this thread.
Nobody did.

Here I will be covering all of steampipe issues I can remember from the top of my head, more will be added as they pop up.

Problem: MY CUSTOM STUFF ISN'T LOADING.
Answer: Easiest answer I can give: http://i.imgur.com/IRWGEox.png

Problem: Steam is crashing when I try to convert!
Answer: Just leave it alone. It will stop responding for about 10 minutes and then start converting. Patience is a virtue.

Problem: Certain textures are just white lines/some models show "ERROR".
Answer: This is a bug that currently happens if you load the same map twice in a row. Just restart TF2.

Problem: TF2 is crashing whenever I get to the main menu
Answer: Verify game integrity and put your HUD in the right place. (See problem 1)

Problem: My custom HUD isn't showing fonts/console
Answer: Delete sourcescheme.res in the resource folder

Problem: My hitsound still won't work!
Answer: Make sure you make a Sound folder, and a UI folder inside of there. Put hitsound.wav in the UI folder

Problem: I don't know where I should put my Configs, Steampipe made a cfg folder inside of tf.
Answer: It did that for the sake of convenience. All Configs now go in the custom/cfg folder.

- More to be added when I can think of more -

Thank you for making this.

I feel like I've been browsing steampipe.tv the past few days with all these HELP ME PLEASE OH THE HUMANITY threads.

Materials also go in to custom/userstuff.

In essence, you treat the UserStuff folder as if it was your old tf folder

A couple things: configs should actually still work in tf/cfg, that's where I've been editing mine and they work fine. They rolled over there too. Maps are better put into tf/maps so that they show up in the dropdown menu for a local match (if you still use the menu command and not the console, I guess).

kawaiibtw it doesn't have to be userstuff. I'm getting the feeling everyone names it userstuff. it can be anything

Indeed it doesn't. But practically every online tutorial says that, so changing it for another tutorial could confuse newer people.

I personally don't name mine Userstuff.

BTW, Source SDK (and so Hammer)is broken, and won't work until valve releases an SDK update. People are expecting them to release game-specific authoring tools like they Nuclear Dawn, L4D/2 and Portal 2 have; but, I'm not sure about that.

It might be like the original SDK, only with CS:S, TF2, steampipe games... since they all now use .vpk's, not .gcf's.

Sprays are still working fine for me.

Check your config and advanced settings to make sure you actually have them enabled?
Also it could just be that said servers disabled sprays

if you have "r_renderoverlayfragment 0" set in your fps config you wouldn't see sprays.

Although based on your apparent usage maybe that's a good thing

I had been editing my cfg in the custom/userstuff folder - it was reading those changes just fine, so I ended up deleting the redundant files in the tf/cfg because it seems odd to have two different configs in my TF2 folders. Deleting the duplicated (and for me, out of date) cfg files seems to be fine.

I verified the files and put my custom files in the UserStuff folder, so my game isn't crashing on the main menu anymore. However, now it crashes whenever I connect to a server. Can anyone help?

Can anyone verify if changes to their settings are saving properly? I need to increase the game audio (sound effects) from the settings menu each time I launch. It seems to reset each time I launch TF2. Enabling/disabling Steam Cloud doesn't fix it. I have had one other friend report he can't make TF2 save his sensitivity changes since the SteamPipe update either.

I want to try adding the volume command to my autoexec and see if it saves, but the only console command I can find that looks remotely related is snd_musicvolume, which doesn't seem related to sound effects.

If you moved your config files to custom look to see if you still have a config.cfg file here > Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\cfg and try editing that to the volume you want. From messing around with my config stuff having cfg folder files in custom AND tf seems to make it a little screwy. I had a similar issue to yours and moving everything to tf\cfg and deleting the cfg folder in custom\userstuff fixed it for me. Also make sure you don't have your config.cfg on read-only.
The command I think you're looking for is "volume" "number" btw

Hey guys,
I was playing tf2 just fine yesterday night but when I tried to launch it this morning TF2 was uninstalled and it said I don't have enough space to install it. I have no idea how this could have happened, and while I am currently deleting lots of files I'm sure the only way there isn't enough space is if TF2 is still installed. Is it possible that TF2 is still installed but steam just doesn't think it is? I'm pretty sure this has little to no relevance to steampipe, but it's really the only possibility that makes any sense to me atm. Didn't seem to warrant a new thread to me. Excuse the bump if this isn't related to steampipe.

EDIT: no idea why this happened but after i restarted it let me reinstall so i guess it's all good now

At first I created custom/mystuff/cfg but then I realized that steampipe moved my old cfg into the new tf/cfg location. So I deleted the cfg in /custom and I just use the /tf/cfg and everything works fine.

I'm trying to install Chris's Highframes into my /cfg folder, but every time I start the game, it closes before reaching the Menu screen. Any help?

I actually just verified the integrity of TF2 and it still crashes before the Menu.
