a18d | a19b | a20b (Latest)

Soot is a King of the Hill map designed for competitive that I've been working on for the better part of a year now. It's mostly been tested on tf2maps comp tests, but I figured I'd post it on here for some more feedback. So let me know what you think!

There is no nav mesh for your map, so bots won't work on them, and with a generated mesh they'll perform poorly. I'll make a nav mesh for this map since I'm bored. You're free to use it in your maps if I publish it.

Because bots deserve the right to be supported! Since they, you know, allow players to play TF2 offline which extends TF2's lifespan.

Some other problems I noticed with the map:

  • The roofs near the point can't be built on.
  • z-fighting on the crate near position 179 1496 111.

Really solid work here Spleep, liking what you've got so far.
The map in general does feel quite cramped especially the areas just before the point, I think if some of the routes were made longer and also wider it would feel a lot nicer. A few more displacements in the areas with a lot of height variance will hopefully smooth out the gameplay areas.

For example this area could do with a connecting displacement where my crosshair is:

Think this area is a little cramped, it's giving me this area from clearcut vibes. I think it works a lot better on clearcut however because of the length. There are also a couple cases where the staircases are quite steep.

This article is a pretty good resource on staircases. 1:1 stairs are ok but generally only want them sparingly, 1:2 is more preferable.

A19 is here!

Changes mostly based on feedback received during an RGL experimental pug.

General changes:

  • Shifted around and added some pickups
  • Lowered jump blocker
  • Raised the height of some doorways to allow for better jumps
  • Ensmallened the lobby outside of cave, just a bit
